Story
Buddy Edward is a middle-aged dude with a beer gut - we are working on his weight! He is the happiest, fattest, little Shih Tzu 'around' - he snorts like a bulldog and waddles! He came to rescue at 18 lbs and has been told by our Vet his bloodwork looks great, but his weight is a concern and obesity will cause problems. His foster has him on a diet, special kibble and only one meal a day. Buddy has curly white and tan fur. He had bald spots due to skin infections which have grown back. Due to breed - in addition to exercise, will require extensive grooming! Regular trips to the Salon *Rescue does not complete DNA testing. Breed is based on documentation provided from the original owner and Vet clinic who saw him prior to rescue. Buddy is fostered with cats, small dogs and big dogs. He loves attention and sitting on his foster mom's lap. He is leash trained and potty trained. Loves car rides and 'going anywhere. This breed has a Life Expectancy is 10-15 years. We are seeking a committed family for this piglet. Buddy came to rescue with two dog siblings after his elderly owners could not afford to care for them and taken to a small shelter. The Animal Control Officer contacted CCR and requested help - the dogs were neglected, dirty and not housetrained. They were clearly loved but owners started to struggle to care for themselves and the pets. Buddy has more housetraining than his younger dog friends. Buddy is now up to date on vaccines, dewormed for gut health, microchipped and neutered. He tested negative for heartworms and is on prevention. FOSTERED IN TEXAS. *Adoption Fee ($400.00) includes transport options to PNW (WA, UT, ID), Midwest (MN, WI, MI, OH, IL, IN) or select New England States (NY-NJ-CT-VA-VT) by pet transport partners. Due to Buster's size - he is eligible for travel with Southwest Airlines (Houston to any major airport approved by SWAAT) Canadian adopters must drive to the meet locations in USA. Email to Apply! Story
Nugget is a 12.5 pound male full breed white/brown Shih Tzu born on January 21, 2022. He is a bit active and loves to bark at everything outside that he can see, hear, or smell. This is why a house may be best for him. He loves to take walks and mark as much as possible. He needs to be house trained, but he already knows about going outside to potty. He just needs consistency. He likes to play with toys, but will destroy stuffed toys within a week or less. He does not immediately connect with dogs he doesn't know. He needs time to acclimate to new dogs and new people. He may get closer to women before men. He will bark if strangers enter the house. He has an obsession about licking ears, and he knows we have two of them. He will give hugs and kisses. Sometimes he may use kisses to get what he wants. Yes, he is a very smart little guy. He does not over eat and will stop eating once he has had enough whether treats/snacks or food. He currently eats Hill's Science small dog adult kibble.

Story
Leonardo DiPuppio, or Leo for short, is a 6-year-old mixed-breed dog. According to Banfield DNA results, he is mostly a blend of Shih Tzu, Miniature Poodle, and several other breeds. I adopted Leo when I was a 24-year-old recent college graduate living alone during the 2020 COVID pandemic. He became my best friend and source of comfort through an uncertain season before I moved back to my hometown. Since returning to my parents' home, unemployment, career changes, financial hardship, life transitions, and household responsibilities have made it difficult to provide Leo with the care he deserves. He has fallen behind on grooming and routine veterinary care despite occasional seizures, possible allergies, and a persistent flea infestation that has not improved despite repeated treatments, medications, and home remedies. I am not asking for money, only for a compassionate dog lover who can give Leo the safe, healthy, and loving life he deserves. Recent flea bathed at home, fleas still.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Meet Kirby, this 14 yr old spunky Shih Tzu boy. It’s difficult to tell he is over 14 yrs old. He’s very agile enjoying several walks and exploring the yard every day. He’s in a foster home with two other dogs, one small and one medium size dog. They get along without a lot of interaction. He enjoys barking at the window with our girl. Kirby will do well in a quieter home with older accepting dogs and kids 10 and older. Place an application to see if Kirby may be a fit for your home. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. August 31, 2026, 9:03 am
