MEET VERUCA!
Veruca is a 10 lb Shih Tzu/Poodle mix with a story that tugs at your heart—but an even brighter future ahead. This little girl was found running loose after being seemingly dumped outside the gates of animal control. For several days she evaded capture, scared and unsure, until she was finally too exhausted to keep running and was safely contained. While we may never know her past, we can promise her future is filled with love, safety, and second chances.
Veruca is a sweet girl who just needs a little time to feel secure. She can be hesitant and unsure at first, but once she warms up, her true personality shines—happy, social, affectionate, and playful with a puppy-like spirit. She seeks out attention from her people and absolutely loves being part of the action once she feels safe.
Because of her past experience running at large, Veruca will require a secure, physically fenced yard. She is considered a flight risk and is not a candidate for a tether or invisible fence. Leash walking will take patience, time, and trust-building before she feels confident enough to enjoy it.
Veruca does well with other dogs and especially enjoys the company of smaller ones, though she is learning that bigger dogs can be friends too. She has also done well interacting with cats. Due to her initial uncertainty, she would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to give her space and allow her to build confidence at her own pace.
She has shown a good understanding of house manners and is currently working on crate training. While she’s not a big fan of the crate and may be a bit vocal, she is learning routine and making progress. Like many doodle mixes, Veruca will require regular grooming to keep her looking and feeling her best.
Veruca is searching for a quiet, patient home that will give her the time she needs to blossom into the loving companion she is meant to be. With a little understanding and a lot of love, this resilient little girl will reward you with endless affection and loyalty.

OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE.
