Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Meet Kirby, this 14 yr old spunky Shih Tzu boy. It’s difficult to tell he is over 14 yrs old. He’s very agile enjoying several walks and exploring the yard every day. He’s in a foster home with two other dogs, one small and one medium size dog. They get along without a lot of interaction. He enjoys barking at the window with our girl. Kirby will do well in a quieter home with older accepting dogs and kids 10 and older. Place an application to see if Kirby may be a fit for your home. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. June 5, 2026, 9:25 am

Story
Moe is looking to find a quiet calm home. He is living with age onset blindness and handling it like a champ! He is low key but enjoys the outdoors and going on walks. He prefers female energy as he previously lived with a older female who passed away last year. Her sister has taken in Moe but her bigger dog and Moe are not the best fit and she feels Moe would do best as an only dog and thrive with human attention. Moe is 9 years old and weighs about 23 pounds. He is very sweet and cute!

Good With Kids: Over 16 please Good With Other Dogs: No Good With Cats: *See Below Housetrained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Walks Nicely On A Leash: Yes Knows Basic Commands: Some Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Couch Potato Special Needs: *Blind Physical Fence: N/A Favorite Toy / Activity: Couch time with human Arrival story: Moe’s human sadly passed away and he is bunking with relatives until a suitable new home is found. Approximate age / Weight: About 9 yrs old / 25 lbs. Moe's Vibe: Your One-and-Only Couch King Little body. Huge heart. Professional cuddler. Retired gentleman seeking his forever soft place to land. Moe is an adorable senior Shih Tzu mix who recently lost his beloved person, and now he’s looking for a calm, cozy home where he can devote himself to his human all over again. He’s what we lovingly call a “one-person dog” — the kind who bonds deeply and says, “You. You are my whole world.” • Expert couch companion • Low-key, polite with affection (not a slobbery kisser — a true gentleman) • Loves lounging in the grass, sunshine naps, and zooming in the yard • Totally fine with grooming and baths • Sleeps quietly in his crate near your bed like a little guardian loaf (Would prefer to be in your bed) Moe clearly prefers female energy and truly thrives when he has a woman to attach his sweet little soul to. A single woman or a calm couple (where he can pick his favorite 😉) would be perfect. *Blindness – Moe has age-onset blindness (SARDS), and honestly? He’s handling it like a champ. He’s learning his surroundings and uses voices, foot taps, and clapping to navigate. He may bump into things now and then, but once he knows the layout, he moves with growing confidence. What he needs most is: • A stable, consistent home layout • Patience while he memorizes his space • A human who talks to him (he follows voices beautifully) Blind dogs don’t feel sorry for themselves — Moe still loves the outdoors, rolling in grass, and enjoying the world in his own way. Other Animals? • Best as an only dog – other dogs tend to feel “in his way” • A calm, independent cat? He’ll politely pretend they don’t exist. Mutual agreement. Very mature. New Home: A quiet, cushy retirement home where he can have the run of the house, be someone’s shadow and heart dog and live a peaceful, predictable life full of couches, sunny naps and love. CONTACT: Please contact wtdr@waggintailsdogrescue.org with any questions or submit adoption application via our website www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoption-application. ADOPTION INFO: We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar on our website for the date and time of the next adoption event. Arrangements can be made to meet a dog outside of adoption events after an application is submitted and approved. Our adoption process includes an application and in-home meet-n-greet with the dog. -Adult Dog Adoption Fee - $250 -Senior Dog Adoption Fee - $125 -Pup Adoption Fee - $250 plus $50 spay/neuter deposit refunded upon proof of surgery by 6 mos.

Story
Meet Dracula — the perfectly pint-sized mix of sweet and spicy, looking for someone who gets him. Don’t be fooled by the name — he’s not out for blood, just love. Once he feels safe, this quirky little guy will melt right into you, showing his softer, snuggly side. Dracula is housebroken, well-mannered, and happiest as the star of the show — no other pets, please. He does best in a calm, low-traffic home without children, where he can build trust at his own pace. He may be cautious at first and a little nippy when nervous, but with patience and kindness, he transforms into the most loyal little shadow you’ll ever have. About Dracula: -Potty trained and well-behaved at home -Prefers to be the only dog -Needs a calm, child-free home -Shy at first but deeply affectionate once he bonds -Loves belly rubs, ear scratches, and cozy snuggles Dracula’s a tiny dog with a huge heart — he just needs someone patient enough to help him shine. Once he chooses you, he’s yours for life. Adoption is $350, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Story
Cookie came to us when one of our directors found her weaving in and out of busy traffic. No one around was able to get her , but thankfully she was lured with a cookie from our director's pocket, so she was named Cookie. She loves all people and animals. Estimated around a year old, she is spayed, microchipped and has her rabies vaccine. Beautiful browns, creams and red. Be aware - she is an escape risk, if let outdoors unleashed she will run for miles from one distraction to the next and therefore requires a fenced-in property. She loves everyone she meets, not sure there is a kinder heart than hers.

Story
Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!
