Story
Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson Update – April 1, 2026: Crimson has settled into his foster home, making friends with his foster parents and the four other blind dogs who live in the home. He now knows all about evening sofatime with his foster mom and the other pups, and, after a belly and head rub, takes a nap. He is doing a great job learning to go up and down the two steps from the deck into the yard and then back into the house again. And, with the warmer weather, he likes to take a quick roll in the grass when he goes out to do his business. Crimson does have dry eye now, so is on daily Optimmune (eye ointment). He does a very good job at medication time. For more information about this sweet boy, read what his foster home wrote about him in February 2026. See below. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Meet Barry! Barry is a handsome Shih Tzu who is just beginning his new chapter after being released from a puppy mill. While the world is still a big and unfamiliar place, this sweet little guy is taking it all in one cautious step at a time. Right now, Barry is on the shy side and appreciates a patient, understanding approach. As he settles in, though, his curiosity has started to shine through. You'll often find him quietly observing his surroundings, building the confidence to explore and discover all the wonderful things life has to offer. Barry is looking for a calm, loving home that will allow him to adjust at his own pace. His future family should be prepared to celebrate the little victories—whether it's taking a treat from your hand, venturing out to explore, or learning that people can be kind and trustworthy. Watching Barry grow into the dog he was always meant to be will be an incredibly rewarding journey. If you have a gentle heart, a little patience, and a lot of love to give, Barry may be the perfect companion to blossom by your side. All of our dogs are dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and heartworm tested if they are old enough. Story
Scout, is a 10-year-old shih tzu mix who started life in a puppy mill, making her a bit shy around humans. But when it comes to dogs—especially Sophie—Scout is all in. Scout enjoys walks alongside Sophie, though she prefers to avoid grass.Sophie is potty-trained, while Scout prefers using a potty pad due to lingering effects from her early life. Her BFF Sophie, a 9-year-old beagle mix, is the ultimate social butterfly—she adores dogs, cats, people, and even carrots! She’s happiest on a stroll but also enjoys neighborhood watch duty from her favorite cozy spot. Though she was recently diagnosed with diabetes, she’s doing well with insulin management. Both pups are up to date on vaccines and looking for a home filled with love. Can you give this loveable, bonded pair a safe space? If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or fostering to adopt these besties, we`d love to hear from you!

Story
Zoey has been through a lot, but you would never know it from her sweet personality. When Zoey's owner was admitted to the ICU and never came home, she was left behind along with several other dogs. Through no fault of her own, her entire world changed overnight. By the time she arrived here, her coat was so severely matted that she had to be shaved down completely. Through the entire grooming process, Zoey never fussed, never complained, and patiently allowed me to help her feel comfortable again. That gentle, trusting nature perfectly sums up who she is. At around 3 years old, Zoey is a sweet Shih Tzu mix who gets along well with other dogs and cats. She has an easygoing personality and seems happy just being part of a family. Her coat may be short right now, but it will grow back. Underneath all those mats was an absolutely adorable little dog who is now ready for a fresh start. Zoey is the kind of dog who doesn't ask for much. She just wants a safe home, kind people, and a chance to be loved again. Good fit: someone looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who gets along with other pets and appreciates the simple things in life. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport. Dogs are picked up at designated transport locations. If an adoption doesn’t work out (rare, but life happens), we always take our dogs back. Location: Oklahoma (available to approved out-of-state adopters via transport) Health: Fully vetted (neutered/spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested) Adoption fee: $550 (includes transport + vetting) Bonus: Each adoption includes a 30-minute phone consultation with a professional trainer Transport routes: WA, OR, ID, MT, UT, WY, CO, MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, MD, NY, NJ. Story
Cardamom has already proven she will do anything for the ones she loves. Before coming to rescue, Cardamom was kept outside year-round. During the bitter cold of winter, she gave birth to and raised three puppies outdoors. Somehow, thanks to her incredible devotion and survival instinct, all three puppies made it through. By the time she arrived here, every hair on her body was matted. Her coat was one solid tangle, so she had to be completely shaved to give her a fresh start. Her hair is still short right now, but it will grow back beautifully. At around 3 years old, Cardamom is a sweet Shih Tzu who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats. She has left her difficult past behind and is ready to enjoy the comfortable life she always deserved. After spending her life taking care of everyone else, it's finally Cardamom's turn to be the one who is loved and cared for. Good fit: someone looking for a sweet, gentle companion who gets along well with other pets and deserves a lifetime of comfort. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport. Dogs are picked up at designated transport locations. If an adoption doesn’t work out (rare, but life happens), we always take our dogs back.
