Meet Kronk! Oh! Well, hello there, my name is Kronk, and I'm so pleased to meet you. I was recently brought in to animal control as a golden oldie, and I was one hot mess! I needed to be shaved down because I was so matted. I'm working on getting my skin healthy, so I'm not quite so itchy anymore. I'm just a little guy, at 16 pounds, and I need to gain a few pounds. I love food, though, even if I do need the flavors switched up once in a while. Who wants to eat the same thing day after day anyway? I get along with other dogs quite well, and I go outside to potty. I haven't met any kids or cats, but I love humans, and if you have older, teen aged kids, I could live with them. I found out that I'm what they call blind, and I don't hear so well anymore, so little kiddos might be a little much for me. Being that I'm older, I have a bit of a wonky gait, so I take some meds for arthritis, whatever that is. I'm really good about taking my meds, and that includes the ones I take to keep my eyes clean! Foster mom says I'm the bestest boy! I really enjoy wandering in the fenced-in yard here in my foster home. It lets me use my sniffer, and it keeps me safe at the same time. Even though I can't see a darn thing, that doesn't stop me from always being able to find my human if they're in a different room. I really like being close to my people, especially if that means I'll get pet by them! I would make a good snuggle buddy, too! Now I'm just looking for my forever home with my forever people. Meet Aster! Age: 9 (8/27/15) Weight: 15 pounds Housetrained: about 80% Crate trained: I prefer to be with other dogs, and do best in a gated off area of the house, though I am doing great with free roaming for short periods. Good with: Dogs, cats, and older, respectful kids Special needs: I'm a former mill dog, so I'll need my humans to be understanding and patient with me. I'm just learning to be a part of a family, in a home, and what love from humans looks and feels like. I'm coming along wonderfully, but I'll need my forever humans to be willing to work with me on some things. Loud noises and movements make me freeze, because I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do. I don't mind being picked up, and I follow foster mom from room to room until I get tired and decide to take a nap. I don't do a flight of stairs, but can do a couple steps to go in and out to go potty. And I LOVE getting all the praises when I do my business outside! I'd do best in a fenced in yard, but I'm not a runner. I'm learning what a leash is and that it isn't scary, so I'm sure before long I'll get it down pat! Foster mom says I'm such a great little girl and my forever home will be so pleased with the progress I make with them, as long as they put the work in to help me. Tori is being fostered in Florida. Tori is a very laid back 10# girl who is quiet and rarely barks. She loves to be outside with her nose facing the breeze and catching the scents in the air. She lives as an only dog - but is very tolerant of the other dogs in our building. The cat in the family is not fond of Tori but Tori does not mind the cat. Tori has a favorite green blanket where she naps and sleeps at night (and is a loud snorer!). She likes frequent walks on leash and is house trained. She enjoys being on your lap or next to you while you are watching tv. Little is known about Tori’s past except that she was taken from her elderly owner who could no longer care for her. Pictures here show her ungroomed condition when she entered the shelter and after being groomed. Tori’s right eye had been removed at some time in the past and she has no vision in her left eye. Pressure in that eye is normal and her medical vet noted a dilated pupil and asteroid hyalosis. She has an appointment to see an opthamologist next month. She often scratches the right side of her face but no reason has been found for this. Tori does not drink from her water bowl but does drink water added to her kibble and gets four small meals a day. On arrival at her foster home in Florida, Tori was treated for worms including tapeworms. This probably contributed to her anemia and she is on lixotinic for that. She had a 4DX test and it was all negative including heartworms. A dental cleaning has been done and four teeth were removed. A benign lesion was removed from her left thigh at that time also. Tori gets very anxious with car rides, but her vet has ordered Trazodone to help her with this. Due to her size a home without young children is recommended. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Lotus is being fostered in PA. Lotus is a sweet, slightly timid but gentle petite and spry little girl who has a beautiful light gray with dark gray soft coat of fur. She has dry eye and significant ear infections that are still being treated in her foster home. She will need drops for her eyes but the over the counter drops are working well for her eyes right now. She will be having dental surgery on September 11th and the veterinarian will decide then if she needs any procedures done to her ears to open the canals at that time. They are very painful right now and it is impossible to get a good look deep inside. An update will be posted after her surgery on the 11th. She lives with several other smaller dogs, one larger dog and two cats and does very well with all of them. She is indifferent with them all and just wants to be where her foster mom is. She is very good with her house manners and has learned to follow her foster mom to the door to go outside and can find her way around the fenced yard and back up onto the porch. She does not tolerate being in a crate or confined area and will bark constantly. She does wonderfully when she has free roam of the house during the day when her mom is at work. She will beg to get onto her foster mom's lap during tv time at night and nuzzles in quickly to nap. Aside from being just a tiny bit skittish, she is a perfect little girl with a sweet personality. Lotus may need eye drops for the duration and we are not yet sure about her ears although they are improving nicely. After years of chronic and untreated infections, it's not a surprise that it may take some time to get her ears back to healthy but her hearing may not improve. She does have issues hearing but she can hear some, and the same can be said about her vision, although she seems to see better than she hears. She has slight cataracts and some of the vision problems could be caused from chronic and untreated dry eye. It needs to be said that she is very stubborn when it comes to getting her eye drops and ear meds in at this time. We are hopeful that as the discomfort in her ears improves and she learns to associate positives (treats given) before and after administration of her meds, that she will learn to be more calm during her medicine time of day. She does not bite but is a huge wiggle worm and can pull out of any trick or grip her foster mom has tried. She is a joy to have as a foster dog and adjusted quickly to her foster home. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Lotus is being fostered in PA. 9/14/2024 Lotus has had her dental surgery and is noticeably happier since having 12 teeth removed. She is now eating kibble soaked in water and is a little spoiled so her foster mom mixes some canned food with it. Her blood work was very good and the best news is that she did not need surgery to open up her ears from the untreated infections she had in the past. Her ears were able to be cleaned out very well while sedated and she came home on oral antibiotics and ear drops for 10 days. Lotus is extremely sweet and insists on sleeping in bed with her foster mom which is fine because she’s a perfect pup to sleep with. She continues to do fine with the other dogs and cats in her foster home but will bark at the two younger dogs if they get in her face when they are playful. She does not want to play and doesn’t appreciate dogs in her face but she is perfect being in with the mix of foster siblings when they just let her alone.
