Hawthorn is a 2.5-year-old Standard Poodle with a sleek black coat and a smart, gentle personality. At 55 pounds, he walks beautifully on a loose leash and already knows “sit” like a pro (he’s still working on “down”). He loves going on walks and exploring, and he’s typically calm around people, though loud or unfamiliar noises can startle him. Hawthorn has done well with smaller dogs and takes corrections nicely. He can be unsure around larger dogs, but we are still getting to know all about him, and proper introductions will ensure his success. His foster says he is also a fantastic travel buddy - great in the car and settles quickly. This sweet, thoughtful boy is looking for a home that will continue building his confidence while enjoying all the adventures by his side. Hawthorn currently weighs about 55lbs., is approximately 2 years old (est. birth date 10/14/2023), and his adoption fee is $510. Hawthorn has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations & preventatives, and is microchipped. We are an animal shelter and therefore are not able to individually potty train our residents. Many adult dogs do arrive “house broken” however due to animal behavior any change in environment will make an emotional impact on the animals and therefore initiate unwanted behaviors during the acclamation period. Please keep this in mind. Puppies do not have the biological maturity to maintain absolute bladder or bowel control and will require a certain degree of potty training and house breaking. PLEASE READ: Barack is poodle, with a Rottweiler spirit. He’s super smart, knows basic commands, knows how to wait to eat. He loves to be active and playtime. He loves kids and other dogs (not cats). I got Barack around COVID, so he wasn’t socialized at an early age. He is used to being with a single woman, so it will take him time to adjust to a man and/or kids. He definitely really needs to be with someone who has the time and patience to train him or hire a professional trainer. He can become owner protective, which he doesn’t do great with strangers. But, I do believe he is still able to be trained on his behavior.If you do not have the time or patience to deal with this behavior, please do not reach out. ROONEY GOT A GUARDIAN ANGEL AND HALF HIS ADOPTION FEE COVERED SO IT'S REDUCED TO $400.  Which is great news for Rooney… and mildly embarrassing for the rest of us because apparently, we aren't getting the job done fast enough. Someone met Rooney and immediately said, “This dog deserves a home,” and offered to pay for half of his adoption fee just to help him get there faster. Frankly, we can’t argue with them. Because Rooney has watched every single one of his littermates pack their bags and leave for their forever homes… while he’s still here like the last kid picked for dodgeball. Rooney is a handsome Labradoodle/Sheepadoodle with excellent hair, a strong appreciation for human attention, and the firm belief that life should include backyard adventures, family activity, and at least one person whose job is to tell him he’s handsome. He’s not asking for much. Just a home.A family.A couch. (He'll settle for his own dog bed)And a few humans willing to include him in whatever nonsense they’re getting into that day. Rooney is ready to start his next chapter with a family who will love him as much as he’ll love them.
