Story
🐱🐱 Looking for a home! See more videos of them on Instagram @meowsfosters Juniper is the cutest little sister! She is 1 year old and smaller than her brothers, with four tiny white paws and gorgeous tabby stripes. Unlike her silver tabby & white big brother Alder (read about Alder here), she is very shy around new people and loud noises -- she will hide. She has "petting time" once a day and gets super affectionate purring and rubbing into her foster mom as she gets brushed, but she mostly hangs out with her siblings. She is looking to be adopted with her brother Alder. They love playing with toys, bird watching, and running kitty races around the house. Born at the shelter on 4/18/24, then raised in a foster home by their mom cat who's already adopted, they are wonderful, well-behaved companions looking for a cat-experienced home. 🌳 To meet them apply here or at www.TheRescueTrain.org Please don't be shy and answer all the questions thoroughly! Maggie Gylenpaw is easily the boss among her siblings. She is as bold and the beautiful bold stripes on her body. She has fierce eye makeup to really help her strong appearance. However, she is actually just a baby who is just as scared and sweet and playful as her siblings. She is related to Jake, Azula, and Goliath. Mateo is my name, playing is my game. Hi, my name is… Well, you guessed it… Mateo! I like playing ball with my brothers and sisters. My big brothers make fun of me because I am small for my age, but I make up for it with attitude and charm. I am always in the mood for fun and I am a real jokester too. Every chance I get, I give my foster mom a smack with my paw, just to get her attention. My foster mom always laughs, picks me up in her arms and calls me her little tiger. I am not sure what that is, but it must be special to her because she cuddles and pets me and says her little tiger will find a loving family that will shower him with all the loving attention he wants and needs. I can’t wait to get adopted! My foster mom says I am good boy. Hopefully, you feel the same way and will decide to make me your forever kitty. If you would like to adopt MATEO please TEXT: 714-882-9865 and complete the online application at: www.rescuemepets.com/forms

Say hi to Gopher! Gopher is a very good guy. He was born on the street in Boyle Heights, and rescued with his sister Euphemia. He was adopted two years ago, but his adopter recently fell on hard times and reached out to get help rehoming him. So due to no fault of his, Gopher had to return to our care. He is looking for a new forever home! Gopher is a shy boy, but very open to love and affection. He would do fine as a solo pet, but also gets along great with other cats and small dogs. He's cautious but playful, dignified but always hungry, and his favorite thing is finding a good lap to purr and nap upon. Schedule a meet and greet with this wonderful little kitty today!

Story
Meet Mimi, a beautiful, brown, striped Tabby with round, green eyes that are slightly crossed in adorable fashion! This cutie was surrendered by her previous family on account of their young son's recent cancer diagnosis. She was bonded with their two male cats but, for some reason, Mimi does not like other female cats. You'd never know she has any issues, at all, because she's such a good natured, even-tempered girl who's uber friendly and highly social. In fact, she can even be a little on the "needy" side... rubbing her head and body into you or your hands. Mimi LOVES full body pets and scratches. She's the type of cat who'll run to greet you the moment you walk in the door. My feeling is that Mimi will do best in a more calm environment with less animals. Perhaps with a retired couple or someone who works from home. She's also not easily startled and has been comfortable around children. You'll find her rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #33 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including video and photo updates on ALL our cats and kittens). Be sure to check out her adoption video and fall in L-O-V-E!! Mimi's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with NexGard), * and Microchipping ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making this cutie a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Kittens rely on each other for emotional support and continued social and behavioral development. For example: another kitten or cat will teach them when they're playing too rough or biting too hard. Plus, cats and kittens get very lonely when you're not at home! Having a playmate will keep them happier, healthier and out of trouble. **We offer a discount when adopting a pair! *** You can also find all our adoptables on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including their rescue story, photos and video updates). Story
Meet SERENA, a beautiful, dark brown, Tabby with stunning green eyes and small tufts jutting off her ear tips. Serena and her sister, Venus, are around 3 years young and were trapped on the campus of UCLA in May of 2021 - where they were born to a feral, Lynx Point Siamese. Serena is, definitely, the more outgoing of the two. Her coat is also a little darker and she's more petite than Venus. This girl is very energetic and has proven herself to be an expert fly catcher and huntress. Her motor begins upon contact and she'll begin to knead her front paws when getting pet and scratched. She's especially cuddly and affectionate at bed time and in the morning... and will roll over on her back for belly rubs! She also doesn't "meow" so much as vocalize with chirps and trills. Her favorite toy is her little mouse which she'll carry around in her mouth and bring to you to play fetch. They were living with a foster family who decided to keep them. Unfortunately, the single mom lost her job and they had to move in with family who had severe allergies. This is why they were returned. Serena is very-much bonded with her twin sister, Venus, which is why we'd like them to be adopted as a pair. You'll find her complete rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #25 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties"... along with updates (including videos) on ALL our cats and kittens! Serena's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * and Micro chipping! ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making them a permanent member of your household and will be keeping them safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Story
Meet Starling, a beautiful, brown striped Tabby who has a gentle and loving disposition. When we first received the call to help her, all we knew was that she may be pregnant... which she was. Turns out she had been abandoned on the mean streets of South Central LA when her humans moved away, and she been fending for herself for over 4 years! We were able to get her safely spay-terminated and fully vetted. One of her canines had been broken so it was extracted at the vet office after her spay/termination. She's estimated to be around 5 years old and has become such a happy, content girl in her current foster home. Please consider opening your heart and home to this deserving girl who wants nothing much but a warm bed with someone to snuggle. We don't know how she'd be around dogs but she does get along well with other cats... especially females. You'll find her full rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #30 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including video and photo updates on ALL our cats and kittens). Be sure to check out her adoption video and fall in L-O-V-E!! Starling's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * Recent dental cleaning with extractions, * and Microchipping ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making this cutie a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Adopting a Tabby

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Tabby - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

You can adopt a cat from a shelter at a much lower cost than buying one from a breeder. The cost to adopt a cat is $25 to $100, which covers the expenses of caring for the cat before adoption. Buying an exotic kitten from a reputable breeder in the United States can be very expensive. Depending on their breeding, coloring, and look, kittens can cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000. If you are set on a certain breed, please also consider breed-specific rescues.

You can start by doing a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available tabby cats in your area.

Tabby fun facts

Fun Facts:

There are multiple theories about the origin of the name “tabby,” but one is that it refers to their silky coats: In the 14th century, silk was called “atabis,” which soon became “tabis,” which translated into the English word, “tabby.”
