Story
Two young women approached the AALOC front door and rang the doorbell. With only one team member working that afternoon handling all the animals’ needs she was unable to respond immediately. When no one answered quickly enough the two women left the box with five precious female kittens and drove away. We are currently maxed out on space but how can you turn your back on these sweet little babies that no one cares about? We named these adorable, female kittens after perfumes. If you’ve ever owned a cat, you know healthy cats smell delicious. They constantly groom themselves to keep their fur clean. Cats also use smell as their primary sense for identifying people and objects. Felines have over 200 million odor sensors in their nose. Compare this to humans who have a mere five million. Cats can smell more than 14 times better than we can so always be conscious of the smell of scented litter, candles or other items/people that might upset your cat. Besides, we think Estee, Chanel, Prada, Gucci and Tabu are very upscale cats. And we know they all need and deserve great forever homes. Please apply to adopt Prada (and one or more of her siblings if you can!) at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Prada and get to know her a bit. Adoption donation includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. Applications require a veterinary reference and home visit. We adopt to residents of Orange County, CA and surrounding areas. Please note: For families with children, we require children to be 10 years of age or older, although exceptions are made depending on the circumstances. For more information on our adoption policies visit our website at www.AALOC.org or contact us by e-mail at aaloc@aaloc.org.

Story
Carlie, a young feline who was in the family way, knew she would be giving birth to her litter of kittens soon. So, she looked for a safe place and found one on the back patio of a home. She delivered her five kittens, two girls and three boys, and then her luck got even better. Carlie and her new family were accepted at AALOC, where they all would be cared for without any concern about finding food or being safe. Named after the Happy Days TV show, the girls are called Shirley and Joanie, and the boys Richie, Chachi and of course, Fonzy. Richie is an adorable fellow that loves to be held and petted; he’s super friendly. He has a fascination with mobile phones and is very curious about how they work, so he might also be the “techie” one of the litter. Mackerel tabbies come in all colors, but Richie is particularly handsome with his broad white chest and paws. He looks a like Fonzy but for the two brown marks on either side of his nose. In general mackerel tabbies are known to be adventurous and fun to own. They are very playful and like to have a box of toys from which to choose. They can be “inspectors,” and like to be included in anything that is happening in the house and explore their domains. Many mackerel tabby owners feel mackerel tabbies are extremely intelligent and some say mackerel tabbies are more dog than cat, since they will readily follow you around, play fetch and like to snuggle. Please submit an application to adopt Richie and perhaps one of his siblings too at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Richie and get to know him a bit. Have you ever heard of a cat that likes to nuzzle you? Well, that would be Shirley. She wants to be picked up and held and if you don’t comply quickly enough Shirley will climb up you to make sure she has your attention. She is exceptionally affectionate and loves to be picked up and lay in your arms. In general mackerel tabbies are known to be adventurous and fun to own. Story
Late in the evening a man brought a box of four five-week-old kittens to AALOC. He said they were from the Norm Reeves Honda parking lot. Employees had been monitoring them and noticed the momma cat had not come back for hours so the concerned man brought them to AALOC. They were taken to the vet to be checked out and boarded for the night. An amazing volunteer foster picked them up the next day. Four days later there was a knock on the door at the AALOC humane center. It was the wife of the man who originally brought the four kittens. She had a fifth litter mate. This other kitten had been separated from the litter and alone for almost four days! We are so happy he survived on his own! He too was examined by our vet and then rejoined his litter mates with the compassionate foster caring for the group. We named the kittens after the Cheers TV show: There is Norm, Sam, Carla, Cliff and Frasier (the kitten that was found last). Norm, Sam, Cliff and Frasier are handsome male orange tabbies. Carla, the only female, is a brown and black mackerel tabby. Please apply to adopt Carla (and one or more of his siblings if you can!) at www.AALOC.org. Story
DOB 3/22/23 Poppy is the fearless firecracker of the House of Broken Cookies! She’s one-in-a-million because wears her heart on her sleeve: she was born with a rare floating sternum, which means her heart is not fully covered in her chest, and you can actually see it beating when she’s belly-up! We’ve tried to protect her with shirts with sheepskin “armor” built in, but Poppy decided she’s too cool for clothes, and she does really well regardless! She is also very adventurous and food-motivated–she loves treat puzzles. She is the best of friends with people and other cats alike–are you next? Poppy is fully vetted and monitored by specialists, who agree that she doesn’t need surgery to anchor her sternum since she is managing perfectly as is! She is also a bit of a troublemaker since she’s still so young: Poppy chews on strings of all kinds regardless of what they are attached to, so her ideal home will need to be conscious of that. Poppy would be happy as an only cat, or with a very gentle companion, since roughhousing may be dangerous for her heart. If you don’t have a cat already, Poppy grew up with the other adoptable HOBC cats, and would love the chance to bring one of her lifelong friends home with her! Cats with special needs like Poppy’s require more consideration than the average cat, and we want to ensure that you and Poppy will be an excellent match! Prior to adoption, all cats have the following services: *Spay or Neuter *3 in 1 Vaccination *De-wormed *Treated for fleas *Tested for FIV/FELV *Micro-Chipped

Story
Meet Tootles, our extraordinary orange boy with a heart of gold! He is such a happy guy: he adores cuddling up with people and engaging in playful antics with his feline companions. Tootles is our Minister of Silly Walks due to his minor rear limb deformities. Despite this, he’s a bit of a daredevil, scooting and jumping all around his foster home with his friends! In addition to his congenital leg deformities, Tootles’ eyelids did not form correctly, which just means he sometimes has a charming squint! He has received thorough vetting and regular checkups from specialists who agree he's healthy and ready for a loving forever home. With a few simple modifications (e.g. cat trees to help him climb) and monitoring for signs of arthritis, this amazing boy will thrive in an environment filled with love and care. Tootles would also do best with a playmate–if there isn’t already a cat at your house, he grew up with the other adoptable HOBC cats, and would love to bring one of his lifelong friends home with him! Cats with special needs like Tootles require a little more attention and consideration than the average cat, and we want to ensure that you and Tootles will be an excellent match! When you’re ready, please fill out our adoption application! Send to houseofbrokencookies@gmail.com. From there, we will contact you for a phone interview, and to arrange a meet-and-greet. We are confident Tootles will be a cherished member of your family! Prior to adoption, all cats have the following services: *Spay or Neuter *3 in 1 Vaccination *De-wormed *Treated for fleas *Tested for FIV/FELV *Micro-Chipped
