Story
Meet Ellie Poor Ellie was six years old when she was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation and taken to a kill shelter. The volunteers there fell in love with her and asked us if we could take her in and find her a good home. We happily did so. Ellie is seven years old now. She’s always been a little shy and quiet, but super sweet. She loves attention and welcomes pets. With so much going for her, Ellie was fairly quickly adopted. She was doing great in her new home. She had really blossomed. Her mom said she was sweet, friendly, cuddly, easy to hold, she loved attention, and she loved belly rubs. She was a great little kitty. After only three months though, Ellie was returned. Ellie made the mistake of tinkling outside the box a few times. After not finding anything physically wrong with her, Ellie came back. We’re grateful her mom did the right thing, but it hurts our hearts that Ellie was so easily given up on. She didn’t do it on purpose. Ellie was trying to communicate that something wasn’t right. Since coming back, she’s been quiet and shy and a little defeated. Staff and volunteers are working overtime showing her that she’s loved and she’s responding, but she’s grieving for her home. She purrs quietly. She sits in the sun. She loves being petted and will lean into you. Ellie does fine with the other kitties and easily coexists with them. She wants so badly to be brave, but there are just so many changes and noises at the shelter for this gentle soul right now. Ellie has used her litter box perfectly since coming back, so we don’t know what happened. We do know that Ellie’s perfect home is out there still. She’s had a hard life filled with disappointment. We pray for a soft landing in a caring home. Ellie is a gem and deserves a chance. Someone who will commit to her and let her know she matters. If looking for a beautiful Velcro kitty to welcome to your heart and home, please consider Ellie. You will not be disappointed. If you can offer a safe indoor home for Ellie, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to make sure we received it. All fields must be filled out. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Poppy, a special girl searching for a patient and loving family to call her own. From the moment Poppy arrived, we knew she would need extra time, care, and understanding. It took nearly a month before she felt safe enough to let us pet her, but every small step forward has been incredibly rewarding. We don’t know much about Poppy’s past, but it’s clear she hasn’t always known kindness. For weeks, she stayed perched high on a cat tree, only coming down at night after the house was quiet and the caregivers had gone to bed. Still, every day we sat with her, spoke softly to her, and worked to earn her trust, and every day, she made a little more progress. Now, Poppy is beginning to enjoy affection and seek out our company. Watching her learn that people can be gentle and loving has been truly special.Poppy seems comfortable around other cats and continues to blossom with human interaction. She will need a calm, patient home willing to let her continue building confidence at her own pace. In return, you’ll get to experience the incredible joy of helping a shy cat finally feel safe and loved.Could you be the person who helps Poppy fully learn to trust?Poppy`s adoption fee is $150, which includes her spay, microchip, Rabies vaccine, 2 FVRCP vaccines, FIV/FeLV combo test (Poppy is negative!) and up to date on flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in adopting Poppy, you may fill out an application at www.tlchs.org or you are welcome to make a Match Making appointment to come out and meet her first. We are open Tuesday – Sunday 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Story
Greystripe is named after the beloved character from the Warrior Cats series, and it`s hard to imagine a more fitting name for this fearless little explorer.Born with a wild spirit and an endless sense of adventure, Greystripe is always the first to greet visitors at the door. He`s happiest when he`s climbing to get eye-to-eye with his favorite people, and he`s never met a toy he didn`t love. With his playful personality and quick mind, he seems like the kind of kitten who could easily learn to play fetch. If you`re looking for a kitten who`s always ready for the next adventure, Greystripe is your guy. And after he`s raced, climbed, pounced, and played his heart out, he`s also an expert napper capable of snoozing for up to 10 hours to recharge for his next big expedition.Greystripe`s adoption fee is $180, which includes his neuter, microchip, Rabies vaccine, 2 FVRCP vaccines, FIV/FeLV combo test (Brightheart is negative!) and up to date on flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in adopting Greystripe, you may fill out an application at www.tlchs.org or you are welcome to make a Match Making appointment to come out and meet him first. We are open Tuesday – Sunday 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Story
Atlas is a sweet, shy cat who wins hearts with her wide-eyed curiosity and soft, gentle presence. Initially reserved, she takes her time to warm up, but once she trusts you, she becomes a deeply loyal and affectionate companion. Atlas is an observant little explorer, quietly taking in her surroundings with a sense of wonder, always interested in what the world has to offer. When she’s ready to rest, she loves nothing more than curling up in her favorite plush puff beds for cozy, contented naps.Atlas previously had stomatitis over a year ago and is now fully healed following a successful full dental extraction. She has been doing wonderfully ever since and requires no special medical care beyond her routine feeding schedule. She is fed pate 3-4 times daily and manages it with ease and comfort.Atlas is also just effortlessly sweet and quietly cool in her own understated way. She has a calm, easygoing charm that makes her a soothing presence to be around. She doesn’t demand attention, but she has a way of earning it, and once she’s comfortable, she’ll melt right into your space like she’s always belonged there.Atlas`s adoption fee is $130, which includes her spay, microchip, rabies vaccine, two FVRCP vaccines, FIV/FeLV combo testing (Atlas is negative), and up-to-date flea/tick prevention. If you’re interested in giving Atlas a loving home, please click the link below to complete an adoption application.
