Story
I found this little girl on a run and she was severely malnourished. When I took her into the vet all the labs came back completely normal the plan was to find her a good home as I had another cat already but we didn’t know anyone interested so she turned into our second cat. Unfortunately her and my other cat do not get along he’s a male and very territorial. It’s become too much to handle as I am now pregnant and they fight constantly. She’s a very loving cat but she can be skittish at times and needs to be in a home without other pets or kids. I’m not quite sure her age just because I found her but the vet estimated her to be no older than 4. She will go nuts for food and can become vocal around her normal meal times but I found her staving. She loves to cuddle and loves being under covers. She needs someone who is patient gentle and caring.

Story
We got Gracie from a shelter 10 years ago and at that time they thought she was 8. I do not think she was 8 because today she does not act like an OLD cat. She talks and is friendly. We had a dog (30 pound Shitzapoo named Jack) and the two of them were best friends. Jack and Gracie would lick and groom each other. Jack died last year at 17. We love Gracie but our daughter is in need of a home and needs to move in. She is violently allergic to cats and dogs. So we need a place for Gracie for her final few years. She is a great cat. Her only challenge is her eyesight is not fantastic but she navigates our home just fine. Please help. Our daughter needs to move in in a couple weeks. Thanks much!

Story
Name: Lane Breed: Domestic Shorthair Gender: Female Estimated DOB: 11/1/2024 Lane is a sweet and gentle girl with a friendly personality and a calm, thoughtful presence. She may be a little reserved at first in a new environment, but with patience and reassurance, she becomes affectionate and enjoys being close to her people. Lane would do best in a home that understands the importance of giving her time to adjust and settle in at her own pace. She thrives in a peaceful, supportive environment and appreciates consistent routines and gentle attention. Because Lane has not been around young children, we recommend a home with children age 10 and older. If there are dogs in the home, introductions would need to be slow and intentional to help Lane feel safe and comfortable. Lane is part of a group of five cats rescued together, all named after Gilmore Girls characters. Much like her namesake, Lane has a loyal heart and a quietly creative spirit—she’s the kind of companion who feels like a constant presence in your life, always nearby, always steady. She would thrive in a home where cozy routines, shared space, and gentle companionship are truly appreciated. If you’re interested in Lane, fill out an application on our website https://www.tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org/ or find us on FB/IG and reach out with questions!

Story
In the last couple months we have seen an increase of FeLV+cats. This is from 2 separate home on different sides of Elkhorn and then a home in Whitewater. What is FeLV? The technical name is Feline Leukemia Virus. Like FIV it can weaken the cat’s immune system and shorten their life. Is FeLV contagious to other cats? Yes it is! It’s easily transmissible between cats by saliva - grooming each other, sharing the same dishes. Cats that are positive are looking for a home with no other felines. They are able to live with other animals such as dogs. **There’s a vaccine that may help the current cat in the home but you would need to reach out to your veterinary to discuss this.Best placement for FeLV kitties? •Someone able to keep the cat indoors only•Taken to regular checkups - maybe even more than normalHow long can they live? Cats can live anywhere between 2-5 years, maybe even longer. It’s not something the shelter sees often. Strangely we see more FIV cats enter our shelter. Currently with have babies that are 2 months old up to adults. If you are willing to open your heart and home to these very special babies, please reach out! These kitties deserve a chance at a home just like anyone else.Adoption Information ~•Age appropriate vaccines •FeLV+•Fecal exam •Microchipped •Neutered/Spayed•Only FeLV+ cat homeAdoption fee ~ Name Your OwnYou can Apply below ??https://lakelandanimalshelter.org/adopt/adoption-profile-online-form/cat-adoption-form/*Cat rooms at Lakeland are open to the public during the time of open hours of Monday-Friday 12p-5p, Saturday 11a-4p but Delavan PetSmart is by appointment.
