Story
Lady is being fostered in TX. HI! I am delighted that you are interested in knowing more about me! I am about 3 months old*. My absolute passions are EAT, MOVE and Cuddle! In fact, among my many super pawers is my super sense of smell, so I became highly excited when smelling delicious foods around me! My foster mamma and I are working hard to learn how to harness this super power! My second super power is my high level of energy and my strong curiosity, I guess that makes three super powers, isn’ it? If you don’t give me a job to do, I will find it on my own! So it is very important for me that you become my guiding light. Yet, I also want you to be soft and cuddle with me in quiet times, since I actively look for bonding, reassurance, and safety. I am good with kiddos, but I will prefer kiddos 6+ since I - for now - get excited and might scratch them by accident. Also, I highly benefit from tolerant and playful siblings who can help me balance when the puppyhood zoomies come! Did I tell you that I am already potty trained? YUP!!! I am proudly potty trained. Regarding my eyes, I have Microphthalmia which “is a congenital condition where one or both eyeballs are abnormally small” on my right eye. My foster momma is seeing a little cloudiness on my left eye*, so I am going to visit an eye specialist in mid August. However, I have not presented any issue navigating the house, jumping the stairs, or avoiding any obstacles in the backyard. I am sure my foster momma will update any relevant info after our appointment. Are you ready to love me? * By the time of this writing on July 2nd. BDRA has voted against the use of eletrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Rue is the sweetest girl around. She is smart, knows lots of tricks, and absolutely loves to cuddle. However, she is NOT good with other dogs. She may bark at them. She comes with a vibrating/shock collar that she (very happily) wears on days that she is worked up. She is NOT scared or traumatized by this collar. In fact, she likes it because it helps calm her anxiety. We VERY rarely shock her. She walks well but must wear the collar when being walked in case another dog passes by, and she gets anxious. She is good with other dogs that she knows. We have another dog with whom she is very friendly, but random dogs on the street can get her worked up. She is a hound who needs lots of exercise, so an open backyard or long walks are a must. Please do not let these things scare you! She is so sweet, and my family loves her, but we are moving and cannot take her with us.

Story
Hi, I`m Delta! This lovable hound is all heart and happy howls! With a nose made for adventure and ears that flop with every step, I`m always ready to explore the world. I`m a total social butterfly who loves people of all ages, and lights up around canine companions, whether it’s playtime in the yard, a walk with a buddy, or just lounging side by side. True to my hound nature, I enjoy sniffing out every interesting scent and following my curiosity wherever it leads. But after a day of adventures and making friends, I`m happy to relax and soak up some love from my humans too.I would thrive in a home with another friendly dog or an active family who can give me plenty of playtime, companionship, and affection. In return, you’ll get endless loyalty, goofy charm, and a built-in best friend. You will also be treated to lots of hound songs, as I am an excellent communicator! Ready to add a little extra wag and a lot of love to your life? Apply to meet me today!Special Requirements: No cats - I am suspicious of them and they make me howl!

Story
Hattie is a 4 yo tree walking coonhound. We can guarantee that she is a kind soul who is always curious (her sniffer is always working ??) and lively (gravity doesn`t know her ??). She`s working on crate training and polite manners but she is fully potty trained - she howls when she needs to go outside so it`s hard to miss! She`s a confident, enthusiastic young dog who is always down for a dog play date. We think she would do well with an active family and fenced in backyard. Her only request are weekly pup cupsYou can also watch for stories, pictures and videos about me on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/JrsPupsNStuffInc or Instagram https://www.instagram.com/jrspupsnstuff/Ask to meet me today!!Adoption fee: Check Back soonAll dogs/puppies have been fully vetted including spay/neuter, micro-chipping, worming, heartworm testing and preventative treatment, flea/tick preventative, and all required age appropriate vaccinations. Story
Hi! My name is Nash, I am a 7 month old, 22lb and growing small/medium breed hound mix - maybe beagle, treeing walker or maybe basset? My 2 brothers and I were found in a ditch in Tennessee and sent to rescue. We came pretty sick and have gained our strength and are ready to take on the world! My foster mom says that I’ve come a long way since I arrived too afraid for people to touch me, now I am the first to greet her every morning or hop into a strangers laps especially kids! I even love going to soccer and baseball games to meet all the new people there. I have also perfected the art of puppy kisses and will lick your face if you hold me. My happiest place is playing with my dog friends and my brothers and BOY do I LOVE food!! If you drop it I promise you, I will sniff it out and eat it quickly! I also love my peanut butter kong when it’s time to go in my crate or wind down. I absolutely love to run and wrestle and play tug of war with our fancy rope toys or any ball insight! Turkey tendons are my favorite chew and sleeping next to you or a furry friend is my favorite place to be. I am a sweet boy and very affectionate and will seek out someone to cuddle dog or human. I am the first to run to my foster mom when she calls my name. And love to play with my foster families kids! I am already quite smart and social! I love my 6 foster dog friends especially the pittie mix and the Aussie who take turns being my mama! I’ve met my grandma’s chi and he was so fun too so were her cats and am very respectful of their corrections. I appropriately greet new dogs and have been a puppy rockstar at our adoption events saying hello to everyone. I love children even being held by them gently in their laps and have met those 2-17. I’ve trained foster human kids to chase and play fetch with me. I am a smart boy and doing very well pottying outside with routine, sleep in my crate and stay quiet at night and wake my foster mom up at 6 to go potty and eat. I have learned to “sit” “touch”, down” and are working on recall and I do also know my name. If you are looking for chiller pup who loves to play and be around other dogs and kids Nash is your perfect pair! While he doesn’t have to be on top of you or always carried he loves his humans and fur friends and actively seeks their attention! Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process. To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to approve or decline any adoption application based on the best interest of the dog.

Story
Judy is living in a foster home! Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match! You may have heard about the beagles that were in the news recently. A biomedical research facility in Wisconsin came under scrutiny, and agreed to release 1500 of the beagles they had kept for testing. Heartland was able to help by taking some of them in in early May. The beagles that were released to us were all mamas, having been used for both breeding and for testing at this facility. The day of their release was the first time they had ever touched grass, been pet, interacted with other dogs, been walked on leash, and so much more. They all went to foster homes within a few days of coming to Heartland, where they have slowly but surely learned how to “dog.” While we can’t undo years of living in a kennel, being deprived of fresh air and loving care, we have been amazed at how quickly they adapted to life on the outside. These girls are remarkable and resilient, and deserve homes that will continue the progress made in their foster homes. The most important thing for anyone interested in adopting one of these beagles is acknowledging that they aren’t on a typical timeline. For example, we celebrated with their fosters when they went potty outside in the grass for the first time! Only recently are they starting to play with toys, and solicit affection. Our girls are all exceptionally gentle souls. In fact, beagles are bred and used for medical testing due to their docile natures. None of them has a mean bone, and they were not afraid of people or touch; rather, they were unfamiliar with the way a dog is typically touched, and not sure how to react to it at first. They were only ever held in the context of being poked and prodded, not lovingly petted and cooed at. So when they were first pet, they would just kind of freeze! Now, they soak up the attention, and have formed strong bonds with their foster families and their canine foster siblings! Judy is one of these resilient gals! She is 3 years young and has been in foster care with a staff member and her family and has been busy soaking up how to be a dog from her foster dog siblings! While she has made great progress, she still has a ways to go to adapt to life outside of a cage. In her foster home, Judy has been living happily alongside other dogs, a cat, and children! She gets along well with everyone. Having furry and human friends around seems to help her feel safe and supported as she continues to blossom. Judy is also making great progress with her house training and is getting better about doing her business outside. She's learning that walks can be fun, too, and has become noticeably braver on the leash! As her personality emerges, Judy has started discovering the joys of being a dog. Recently, she's taken a particular interest in stuffies and enjoys slowly and methodically "deconstructing" her favorite toys. It's one of the many ways she's begun expressing her playful side. She's even started smiling—a heart-melting grin that perfectly captures how far she's come! Here is what her foster mom had to share about her! "I wasn’t sure how Judy would react at my house, but she has fit in quite well. She enjoys the company of our dogs and children and spending time outside in the yard. She is getting braver each day and has started going up and down stairs and in and outside on her own. She is startled by noises and sudden movements but she is learning she is in a safe space. She has started smiling in the past week and is getting more and more playful with the dogs in the yard. She is making positive progress each day!" If you're looking for a gentle companion and would love the opportunity to help a deserving dog continue her journey, Judy may be the perfect match. Every day she comes a little further out of her shell—and the dog waiting inside is absolutely worth getting to know! Judy’s adoption fee is $375. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Denise is one these resilient gals that we were lucky to welcome to Heartland! She is 3 years young and landed in an amazing foster home with a whole beagle pack! She has recently started showing interest in stuffies and is beginning to play with her foster dog siblings. She even does zoomies pretty regularly! Seeing her playful side emerge has been incredibly rewarding, and we know there's even more of her personality waiting to shine. Denise is looking for a patient and understanding family that will continue helping her learn the basics. She is still working on housebreaking and learning to walk confidently on a leash, so she'll need adopters who are committed to providing guidance, consistency, and encouragement as she continues to make progress. Here is what her foster mom had to share about her! "Experiencing the world with fresh eyes, every day brings new and wonderful things. Sometimes new things are scary and Denise needs to be shown that they are fun and safe. Mostly though, Denise is loving life and brings good vibes to every situation. Discover, wonder and awe alongside Denise." With time, love, and a little patience, Denise is sure to become a wonderful companion. If you're looking for a gentle, sweet-natured beagle who is ready to continue her journey with a family of her own, Denise may be the perfect match for you! Denise's adoption fee is $375. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
