Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treewalker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 22, 2025, 8:03 pm

Story
Meet Sarge — a happy, affectionate boy with the softest ears and the most soulful, expressive eyes. Sarge walks well on a leash. He knows how to sit and give paw. He is very playful and he responds well to treats for training and rides great in the car (just needs a boost to get in). We do not know what he thinks of cats. Despite facing some tough breaks, Sarge still has a loving heart and a joyful spirit, and he’s ready for the chance to be someone’s forever companion. Poor Sarge has been adopted and returned twice, through no fault of his own. 🏠 First Return: Sarge lived peacefully for two years with a family that included four tween-to-teen boys. One day, while a child was playing basketball, Sarge grabbed the child’s hand. The hand was bruised but not broken or punctured — it’s very likely he mistook the hand for the ball. This was an isolated incident; there had never been any previous issues or concerns with Sarge during his time with that family. 🏠 Second Return: In his next adoptive home, Sarge was resting when a house guest he had never met leaned over and touched him, waking him from sleep. Startled, Sarge bit the guest. He was later professionally evaluated by a trainer who emphasized the importance of giving dogs space while they’re sleeping — especially when they're still adjusting to a new environment. The trainer felt Sarge behaved in a way many dogs might when startled and stressed, and reaffirmed that he is a good dog who simply needs thoughtful, respectful handling. To set Sarge up for success, we’re looking for a calm, adult-only home or one with older teens who can respect boundaries. He will thrive with someone who understands dog body language, gives him time to adjust, and follows best practices like not disturbing a sleeping dog. Sarge is not a “problem dog” — he’s a normal dog who’s been put in a few tough situations. What he needs now is a person or family who will advocate for him, respect his space, and love him for the amazing companion he is. Sarge is about 4-5 years old and 66 pounds. Please help Sarge find the loving home he deserves. Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes. If they have been housebroken in the past, they will need time to acclimate to a new home routine from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, we encourage you to please submit an application on our website today so that we can try and process and pre-approve any potential adopters prior to our next adoption event. Meet Judy! With her stunning blue eyes and gentle heart, Judy is sure to melt yours! This 4-month-old sweetheart, weighing about 20 lbs, was one of three littermates who bravely found their way to safety after starting life as strays. Now in foster care, Judy is learning that the world is a kind and loving place. She’s affectionate, cuddly, and adores being close to her people — belly rubs and snuggles are her favorite! She’s also working on her leash manners and picking things up quickly, proving she’s as smart as she is beautiful. Judy is ready to find her forever family — one that will continue showing her how wonderful life can be. If you’re looking for a loving companion with eyes that sparkle and a heart full of joy, Judy is waiting just for you. Judy is microchipped, spayed and current on her vaccines. Her adoption fee is $495.  Apply to adopt JUDY LONESTAR at www.ehrdogs.org  November 22, 2025, 6:55 pm

If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.November 26, 2025, 12:43 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Duke is about 8 years old and 50 lbs., found as a stray in rural NC. He is a beautiful leash walker, wonderful in the car, is housetrained and would be a great hiking companion for someone! Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and, although he loves to be outdoors, he also enjoys a soft bed! Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home. Which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them. He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun and is good with cats too! Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced-in yard. He is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
