Strikingly beautiful GERTRUDE (or TRUDY) is a gem. She is a leggy girl known as a Treeing Walker Coonhound. Super smart, loyal, and affectionate, TRUDY is an active dog, so her perfect companion(s) would be active, too - runners, joggers, hikers, anyone who loves to break a sweat. Hiking Mt. Beacon is TRUDY’S fav! She has been working very hard on her manners and learns new commands astonishingly quickly. She is also a big snuggle bug who loves massages and thinks she can fit on your lap! She has the cutest way of putting her head under your arm for cuddles when you sit with her. TRUDY is 3 years old, house trained, up-to-date on all her shots and currently weighs 45 lbs. TRUDY likes some other dogs, though not cats or other small animals.

Story
Meet Luna, the one-year-old walker coonhound mix who's looking for her forever home! Luna is a fun-loving, energetic pup who's always up for a good time. She's a total sweetheart who loves to play and cuddle with her human friends, and she's guaranteed to put a smile on your face with her silly antics.   Luna has had a bit of a rough start in life - she was once a wandering stray until a kind stranger noticed a healing stab wound and brought her to the shelter for medical attention. But don't let her past fool you - Luna is resilient and has a heart of gold.   At 47 pounds, Luna is a larger dog who would thrive in a home with someone experienced in handling big breeds. She'd also love to have a fenced backyard where she can run around and play to her heart's content. But most of all, Luna just wants a loving family who will give her the attention and care she deserves.   Luna has been enjoying her time in a foster home in New Jersey, where she's been learning new tricks and making lots of friends. But now she's ready to find her forever family and settle down for good. If you're interested in adopting Luna, please visit peace4paws.org on your computer or laptop to apply. Luna is up-to-date on all her vaccinations and has already been spayed, so she's ready to go!If you have specific adoption or foster questions, please email: judy.atchison@yahoo.com THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN RESCUING A DOG! U.S. shelter and adoption estimates 2012 3,500—Number of animal shelters •  6-8 million—Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year 25 percent—Percentage of purebred dogs in shelters •  3-4 million—Number cats and dogs adopted from shelters each year 2.7 million—Number of adoptable cats and dogs euthanized in shelters each year 25% of dogs in shelters are pure bred - that's 1 in 4! Story
Miriam had the opportunity to get out of our shelter and into a foster home temporarily, and the difference it made for her was amazing! She was so much less stressed, and truly was the perfect house guest! Miriam is fully potty trained, and a quiet, calm dog. She prefers not to be crated, and while she is certainly social with other dogs, she prefers that in the house she's your one and only.  Miriam is such a sweet girl, she really enjoys being loved on! She'd ideally have a home with a fenced yard where she can have free roam. Miriam is great with kids, and has not yet met any feline friends. Before she came to us, she was the neighborhood stray - hanging out around the Country Store, waiting for attention and getting lots of treats from local families who she'd greet upon arrival! Miriam much prefers life outside of the noisy/busy shelter, so we are hoping to find an adopter for her as soon as possible! Miriam will thrive in a loving home that is looking for a companion that wants to spend lots of time together.   THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN ADOPTING ONE OF OUR AMAZING RESCUE DOGS - WE CAN’T WAIT TO HELP YOU FIND YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! The first step in getting started with our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application on our website at www.adopt-a-dog.org. We welcome you to come visit our shelter! Meet & greets will be set up by appointment once your application has been received & processed. If a dog is still listed on Petfinder, we are still accepting applications for them!   *Name: Miriam *Age: 4 years *Current Weight: 55 lbs *Rescued from: Tennessee *Adoption fee: Puppies up to 1 year: $550 Young Adult (1-4 years): $475 Adult (4-7 years): $400 Senior (8+ years): $300 *Health: Up to date on age-appropriate core vaccines so far (adopter will be responsible for remaining vaccinations if applicable), spayed/neutered , microchipped, dewormed *If the dog you are adopting is not yet spayed/neutered at the time of adoption, we require a $150 deposit in addition to the adoption fee (to be refunded upon proof of surgery within 6 months of adoption)     ** Please note that we are taking our best guess on age, breed, and size when fully grown, based on the dog’s physical appearance and what we might have learned about one or both parents depending on the situation. We rarely know a dog's exact age, nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is often limited. We encourage you to consider individual personality rather than relying on a label – meeting a dog in person is the best way to make sure it’s love!   FAQs: WHAT IS THE ADOPTION PROCESS?: The first step in adopting an AAD dog is to fill out an application via our website www.adoptadog.org. Once we receive your application, one of our application processors will contact you, and answer any questions you may have. We will also ask for additional information if needed (landlord or veterinarian contact information, or other based on your application). Once an application has been approved, we will schedule a mutually convenient time for a meet & greet! We do not operate on a first-come-first-serve basis for adoptions, but on best fit for a family and most importantly the dog.   HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO ADOPT?:  You must be age 25 or older to apply to adopt. If you live in a home with other people (ie parents, relatives) the person who will be financially responsible for the care of the dog should be the one to fill out the application.   HOW CAN I MEET THE ADOPTABLE DOGS?: Meet and greets will be scheduled once your adoption application has been fully processed by one of our adoption processors. Please be sure to fill out the application as thoroughly as possible, as we want to make sure we find you the perfect match!   *If you have any additional questions that have not been answered, please e-mail info@adoptadog.org! ##1623267##

If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.May 30, 2023, 9:36 pm

Story
Meet Duce. His foster Mom says "Duke is a very sweet dog. He gets along with every dog he meets. He is crate trained and will bark at the door to go out. He loves running in the backyard and cuddling next to you on the couch. He needs time to trust you but once he does he will be your best buddy. He sleeps quietly all night and is happy to see you in the morning. He is very lovable and sweet. He gets scared easy and he doesn’t like loud sounds. He loves other dogs of all sizes and would be great as a second dog in a home." Duce is about 2-3 years old and 55 pounds. Please help this sweet boy find his forever home. Update: Duce tested positive for Anaplasmosis, a tick borne disease similar to Lyme's. He is currently on an oral antibiotic treatment and doing very well. The remaining pills will be sent home with his new family for completion. Duce is currently available for adoption. We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821).
