Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Meet Emily! She is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who is 9 years old. She’s a female (spayed) and weighs approx 55 lbs. Owner must rehome due to moving to an apartment in the city! Emily has to be rehomed as a well-loved house dog. She could not handle living in a kennel situation. So, if you’re an indoor, pet-loving home please apply! Pros: Very healthy and loving. All shots and medication up to date. Gets along with other dogs. Cons: Will run away if she gets a chance. Will come back, but she will track whatever, until she can’t go anymore. She has always been successfully contained in a 4 to 5 feet high, welded wire, fenced backyard. So that height or higher, or privacy fence would be best for her in a new home. Please apply online to adopt Emily at newkenthumane.org Or send an email with any questions to thenry@newkenthumane.org

Story
Beau is a friendly, energetic, neutered male, 3 years old, hw negative. He is current on all vaccines and needs a home with at least medium to larger sized, playful dogs and no small animals. Beau must be fed separately from other animals because he was starved in his past and will start a fight over food. Like most hounds, he has a drive and would do great with someone that can exercise him, keep him contained responsibly, love him, and give him the continued training he needs. Please call NK APU at 804-966-9500, to meet Beau.

Oh sweet Sandi... If you're looking for a silly, sweet hound, look no further. Sandi is an owner surrender, due to no fault of her own, who has lived in a home and hopefully retained some of her manners despite living in a shelter for some time now. Sandi is an older gal, approximately 7 years old and weighs nearly 60lbs. She is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. If you've never loved a hound, Sandi will show you how loving they can be. Contact the shelter for more information or to set up a meet and greet with animals currently in the household 757-365-6318

Story
Our bouncy Ben was picked up by a local animal control.  He was very thin, heart worm positive, and had intestinal parasites.  All of that is behind him now as he has completed treatment for all and is ready to find his forever home.  We really should have named him Tigger as he bounces every where he goes.  He loves to play and also can be a snuggler when he has gotten his energy out.  We don't know how he is with cats as he hasn't been around them.  Ben knows sit and down and is eager to learn more.  He would like a family who will continue with training, and include him in their adventures, keeping in mind that he is a hound and must always be leashed when out because he likes to follow his nose.  He would be a great walking, running, hiking buddy.  If you are that special family who would love  this boy forever, please contact Rainbow Animal Rescue at rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.com or 757-472-1583July 17, 2024, 12:09 am

Story
Gwen was found as a stray and turned into a rural shelter. She was not claimed so that's when we went and got her. When Gwen arrived, she was a bit shy, but since then, she has become a playful 2-3 yo beagle. She gets along with all of the dogs she meets and is even great with kids. She is young and gets the zoomies but isn't overly rambunctious . She has great manners but is still working on her commands. When Gwen needs to go out, she will let you know by whining or sitting by the door. She sleeps through the night in bed or in her crate. She enjoys going for walks but is a bit curious at times, but she will continue walking when corrected. She will let out a bark or howl every now and then, but overall, she seems quiet. She likes to snuggle up and enjoys her belly rubs. Gwen is spayed, up to date on vaccines and micro-chipped. She did test a faint positive for heartworms so we started her on Doxycycline. If interested in meeting Gwen, our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org.

Story
Eddie is looking for a home. Eddie is a 30 lb Beagle/Lab mix, approximately 2 or 3 years old. He was adopted from us a little over a year ago. He’s a really good dog, great with kids, walks well on a leash, and enjoys playing with other dogs at the dog park. However, he is not a good fit for the neighborhood he currently lives in (Colonial Heritage, Williamsburg, which has a large dog population) in that he is quite reactive to other dogs he sees out on walks, or which he senses when out in the fenced yard. He reacts to these dogs by barking, and possibly simply wants to play with them. As such, it is difficult to leave him out in the yard for any length of time, as several of the neighbors also have fenced yards and he calls out to those dogs when they are out at the same time. His family has tried various training methods but they don't feel he is happy in their home since he is constantly stressed when either walking on a leash with so many dogs around, or out in the yard. Therefore, they are looking to re-home him to a place where he would be happier. He would do well in a family with children and a somewhat isolated yard. He is neutered, chipped, and up to date with vaccines, and on heartworm prevention. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.
