Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Meet Poncho, a big boy with tons of love to give! His sweetness is as palpable as his friendliness, making him a perfect companion for anyone. He`s always ready for a cuddle session, and his gentle nature makes him a joy to be around. Poncho has a knack for making people laugh with his funny antics, and his compatibility with other dogs is a huge plus. He`s not just a dog; he`s a friend, a comforter, a source of laughter, and a beacon of unconditional love. Poncho`s adoption would mean a home filled with laughter, love, and a faithful friend who`s always by your side.

Story
We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them.Clearly.Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run.At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary -- a running narration of life as your devoted shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and deeply loyal -- the kind of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time. What Parker has taught us is this: he isn’t built for chaos. He doesn’t thrive in busy households, and he’s not comfortable living with other pets or children. Leashed walks and unfamiliar environments increase his anxiety -- Parker is a homebody who feels safest when the world is small, predictable, and kind. He doesn’t need adventures. He needs consistency, patience, and a person who understands that love doesn’t always look loud.If you’re looking for a steady presence rather than a whirlwind, a loyal shadow rather than a social butterfly, Parker may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. PLEASE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET HIM.Email contact@animalaidsociety.org, or call 757-865-0511Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Meet Barrelboy! This sweet hound boy didn`t have the greatest start to life, but after much TLC, he`s ready to find his new home! He can definitely be a bit nervous around new people, so we will require that everybody in the home comes to meet him before adoption, including other dogs, just to make sure everybody gets along. Once he gets comfortable though, Barrelboy is a sweetheart who loves attention and loves running and playing! He loves to eat and loves playing with toys, but he has been known to get a little protective over both, so make sure to give any food, treats, or toys separately if you have any other animals at home. Barrelboy is also not super educated in normal dog life, especially leash walking, so he will need some help with training and owners who have had dog experience in the past! Lastly, Barrelboy is unfortunately heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment at our clinic after going home; luckily though, our friends at PETA have covered the treatment costs! If you have any questions about this sweet boy, please ask our kennel staff and we`ll be happy to help!

Story
As discarded hunting dogs, life hasn’t been easy for Heidi and Chaplin, but things are finally looking up! Following a lifetime of neglect, they have received some much needed TLC and are ready for their forever home. We do believe they’re a bonded pair and are seeking a loving home where they can enjoy their golden years TOGETHER. These days their agenda is simple: relax, nap, and soak up the affection they’ve always deserved. Both pups are easy going, gentle souls who enjoy time outdoors in a fenced yard for sniffs, as well as indoor time for ample naps. These sweet pups are looking for a loving home that can offer a little extra understanding. They both experience some incontinence and take medication to help, but do have accidents. With patience, routine, and simple management tools like frequent potty breaks and washable diapers, they do well and continue to live happy, comfortable lives. They do not jump on furniture and are well behaved when left alone. Their foster home does not crate them. Chaplin can be a bit unsteady on stairs, so it’s best to monitor his access, especially if they aren’t carpeted which helps with his grip. Their DNA age tests show Chaplin is almost 10, and Heidi is about 8 months younger (as of 1/20/26) - a couple of years younger than first thought. Chaplin weighs 38 lbs., and Heidi 35 lbs. Both are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up‑to‑date on vaccinations. Chaplin has a permanent head tilt and slight gait unsteadiness, likely due to years of untreated ear infections. The head tilt doesn’t slow him down and a veterinarian, while in Homes Fur Hounds’ care, advised that with prompt treatment of any future ear infections, the neurological issue should not progress. He also has some scarring (“cauliflower ear”). His ears are comfortable now, but they should be handled gently, especially during weekly cleanings. Lately, we’ve noticed he may not hear as well as he used to, but his nose is as sharp as ever—he still shows up in the kitchen right on time for meals. If Heidi and Chaplin sound like your perfect pair, please apply at: www.homesfurhounds.org.

Story
Our sweet 1 year old beagle, Buttercup, is available for adoption. Buttercup is a total sweetheart beagle who is friendly and calm. She gets along with other dogs and people, including kids. She can be shy when first meeting someone new, but a few ear scratches later, she warms up. She is learning to walk on a leash and do her business but prefers to roam a fenced yard. Although she has learned that a house is a safe cozy place, she is still learning not to bathroom inside. She is also working on some basic commands, but does always come when her name is called. Buttercup sleeps through the night in a crate, and prefers an early 6am wake up call to go outside. She does great in a car and loves a good couch snuggle. Buttercup came in with two other young beagles, probably all owned by a hunter. She was in heat when she arrived so we have had to wait to spay her. She is HW negative and up to date on vaccines, but she will still need to be spayed, which is on the schedule. You can submit your application now. Don't miss out on this sweet, young girl. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
Dansby is a beautiful beagle girl who is looking for a home. She is a 4 year old hunting beagle we took in with her sister Elsa. As you can see in the pictures, she is quickly falling in love with being an inside family pet. She even snuggles on the couch with her poodle foster sister. Dansby is very sweet and a bit shy at first. She is adjusting well to being a pet and has done really well with housebreaking. She is also discovering toys and likes to carry her toys around and take them to her bed. Dansby is not as food motivated as most beagles and will sometimes not even eat all her food. She is a slow eater and has no food aggression. She is friendly and playful with people and with the other foster dogs in the home. She was a little nervous at the vet's office but did fine. The longer she is here the more we see her wonderful, fun personality. Dansby does sometimes bark at other dogs when she is out walking on a leash. She will need some training with this issue. She is vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed. She was heartworm negative when she arrived and has been on heartworm prevention but has now tested positive. Heartworms don't always show up in tests for 6 months so she was positive when she arrived and we did not know it. We have started her on the medication. At least we know she hasn't had them long. If you are interested in meeting Dansby our application can be found at www.homesfurhoounds.org
