Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Biggie: Beautiful Hound needs a home Biggie was found stray in New Kent before the holidays. The finders were able to locate his owner and then found out that his adoptive family couldn’t care for him properly. He is about 3 years old, good with kids, other dogs, and cats too. He weighs 55 lbs, he’s crate trained, heartworm negative, on prevention, he’s current on vaccines and neutered. He is doing well on the family’s electric fence system. “Biggie” was in a shelter (not New Kent’s) for 9 months and his newly adopted owner came down with health issues, not allowing her to care for him, so Biggie is with his temporary family until he is able to find his Furever home. The family tried to find him a home on their own, but were unable to, so they’ve reached out to us for help. If Biggie sounds like he would fit in with your family, please message us and we will be in touch.

PRETZEL Sweet adorable goofy middle aged Coonhound, Pretzel, was recently rescued SKINNY, Heartworm and Tick Disease positive. She has been treated for all, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She has shown that she has pretty good indoor manners. She walks nicely on a leash. She loves everyone and everything. She will destroy a tennis ball. She wants so badly to be someone's loved companion. She was probably born in 2015 or 2016 and is now a healthy, shiny, beautiful 62 pounds. If you might be the person or family for Pretzel, please email trampsrescue@yahoo.com or text 804-248-3042. Thanks.

She loves other dogs, good with kids and enjoys her walks and exploring the yard. Alana loves life and is all about going on adventures and doing fun things so she would thrive with a family or person who is active or just likes taking their dog out and about! She is gentle taking her treats and has very nice house manners. Story
Lemmie is a very sweet girl who loves to be loved and petted. She comes if you squat/bend down and call her, and will sit with you to be fawned over. She has the softest fur you have ever petted. In her original foster home she was anxious and did some pacing and we realized she really needed another dog in the home. Once we moved her and now she is with another dog, who we also think is her mother, she no longer seems anxious. So Lemmie will need a home with a playmate. She is only one year old. She was going into her crate to sit alone when she didn't have another dog with her. Now she usually follows Elsa, and sits/lays/sleeps with her. They sleep through the night. She has been pretty good about going out to potty, and will go to the door when she needs to go out. She is starting to get interested in toys. She isn't very food motivated. She does eat her meals and will take a treat but isn't food crazy. The foster dad did manage to walk her around the cul-de-sac although she did not do well on the leash. She didn't walk with him and kept wanting to go towards the woods. She will need some work on leash walking. Although she hasn't tried to dig under the fence, she did dig a good sized hole under a shed pretty quickly, so we think she is still an escape digger hazard. So even though she will need a fenced yard, it needs to be one that is secure at the bottom where she can't dig out. She is spayed, micro-chipped and vaccinated. She is HW positive so we have started her on medication. If you are interested in meeting Lemmie, our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
Elsa was found with two other beagles, Melissa and Lemmie, and brought to a rural shelter. None of them were claimed so we took in all three cute little girls. Elsa is another very sweet beagle who likes people. She will come when you call her since she loves to be loved on and petted. We haven't had her long so she is still revealing her personality. She is working on housebreaking and will readily go outside when you let her out. We don't think she has much experience on a leash since she tends to be all over the place, although she seems to enjoy the walks. Her energy level has been fairly low so far and she is a bit timid, but it could be her getting used to her new life as a pet. She seems to be a little unsure and fearful of cars/trucks on walks. We think she will be a good companion once she settles into her new pet life. She is currently being fostered with Lemmie, and although we are not requiring they be adopted together, they do LOVE each other and so we do think Elsa should have another dog in the home. Elsa is vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed and she is HW positive. We have started her on the medication. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
If you’re looking for the sweetest little shadow who is always ready to snuggle, Whiskey Eggnog could be your guy! He was recently owner surrendered, at no fault of his own, after living outside in a climate controlled pen his entire life. Whiskey has spent his first week with his foster family indulging his curiosity and discovering all the joys of being an inside dog (minus accidentally banging on the keys of a piano and startling himself when it responded by loudly playing a few notes…he says he’d happily not do that again and now gives the instrument a wide berth). Admittedly, sometimes his excitement over his new life does get the best of him, so he’s working on some manners mostly focused around not surfing counters and jumping on people. Whiskey is doing great with house training and in the meantime doesn’t mind wearing a belly band to protect from accidents. He does well in a crate while his family is away and at night, though he would happily snoozle in bed with his humans, if invited. So far, his foster family has not observed any inappropriate chewing and very little barking outside of when they initially leave the house, but he settles down quickly. Whiskey gets along well with the other two dogs in his foster home and in the last couple of days has even started to figure out the joy of dog toys! We have discovered he does not like puppies. We don't know why but he will growl at puppies, even if they are just on TV. “Whiskey” has been his name since birth and he responds well to it, which makes training easier. He is 14 months old and currently 21 lbs. He is a bit underweight, so his food intake has been increased and Whiskey is absolutely THRILLED with this plan, enthusiastically scarfing down every morsel at meal times along with some extra treats throughout the day! He is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and will be neutered on the 21st. The pink mark on his nose that looks like a heart turned out to be a small injury, but it’s healing nicely. If interested in this absolute dream of a pup, please complete an application at www.homesfurhounds.org.
