Meet Fred! This very active younger hound is on the search for his perfect family. Fred was part of a recent transfer from our friends at PETA after being found in very poor living conditions with many other hounds. Since Fred has never lived with children we will require children in his future home be 10 and up. Fred has been very selective about other canines and still needs some work with proper socializing so we will require any resident canines to visit prior to adoption. This may take a few introductions to make sure Fred is a good match. Fred has been doing very well with his active canine friends he has made here at the shelter. He is also heartworm positive but not to worry our friends at PETA will be covering the cost of his heartworm treatment. Adopters should be prepared to bring Fred back to the VBSPCA Clinic to complete his treatment. Staff will be happy to discuss what this process looks like when you visit. Meet Barrelboy! This sweet hound boy didn`t have the greatest start to life, but after much TLC, he`s ready to find his new home! He can definitely be a bit nervous around new people, so we will require that everybody in the home comes to meet him before adoption, including other dogs, just to make sure everybody gets along. Barrelboy has done well with other dogs that meet his high energy play style. Once he gets comfortable though, Barrelboy is a sweetheart who loves attention and loves running and playing! He loves to eat and loves playing with toys, but he has been known to get a little protective over both, so make sure to give any food, treats, or toys separately if you have any other animals at home. Barrelboy is also not super educated in normal dog life, especially leash walking, so he will need some help with training and owners who have had dog experience in the past! Lastly, Barrelboy is unfortunately heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment at our clinic after going home; luckily though, our friends at PETA have covered the treatment costs! So often, we get them when they are at least two years old and you can't help but wonder, what did this amazing hound look like when they were a tiny, little thing.We have your answer! Look no further than our two amazing walker hound puppies - Watermelon and Pineapple!At 9-weeks-old, these two have already charmed most every volunteer and everyone at the vet's office. Adorable doesn't even begin to describe them. They are two of the most fun-loving puppies we have ever had at the shelter.Watermelon (girl) and Pineapple (boy) are transfers to us from a rescuer in the middle part of the state. They were with their mom and one other sibling until just a week ago. They are pros at using their pee pads, which delights us all.But the coolest part about them is how they are helping another puppy we have become braver and more content. Reef is 21 weeks old and, with his sisters, was found as a stray. The group of them were doing their best to survive, just relying on each other.Reef's sisters have been adopted and he has been by himself. He was the most shy of the four and the hardest for visitors to get to know. But now, that is all changing. Reef has been drawn completely out of his shell by Watermelon and Pineapple. They won't leave him alone.You find yourself laughing the entire time you are watching them play - one will be walking along, only to be dive-bombed by another. At one point, one of them was riding Reef. They love tug-of-war and will then all take a break under the bed outside. And with each day, Reef gets braver.Watermelon and Pineapple, along with their new BFF Reef, are joy wrapped up in puppy bodies. They remind us all that stopping and watching puppies can bring on a peace you never realized you needed. At around 7 years old and 50 pounds, Budgie has found the perfect balance between playful and relaxed. This sweet 5-year-old Beagle mix received his name because he was given a second chance at life—and he has embraced it with his whole heart. Chance came from a hoarding/ animal abuse case where his owners were consequently arrest, arrested. Despite everything he's been through, Chance has never lost his love for people. His tail still wags, his eyes still light up when he sees you, and he still believes that his forever family is out there waiting for him. Chance is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He loves attention, enjoys spending time with his people, and has a gentle, loving personality that makes it impossible not to fall in love with him. He is a little on the chubby side at 56lbs and loves to be a couch potato, though we have put him on an exercise regimen and a diet. Chance is currently heartworm positive, but that doesn't define who he is. He is receiving treatment and deserves the comfort of a loving home while he completes his journey to recovery. This beautiful purebred Beagle girl called Brittany is our pride and joy to offer to a Beagle loving family. Her story is sad and one that will make you sad and mad all rolled in to one roller coaster of emotions. A young newly wed couple were driving from their home in Chattanooga, on their way to a honeymoon in Nashville, TN. Out of the corner of their eye while driving, they saw a truck pulled over and pushing this girl out onto the side of the road and then drive away. They owned two dogs of their own and it broke their heart to see such meanness. She was in a desperate situation. They pulled over and took her in to their car and then started making calls to shelters and rescues in the Nashville area where they were destined to arrive in a few hours. They got Critter Cavalry on the phone and we stepped up to take her in immediately and we would make sure she had a future family who would never do such a horrible thing as to abandon her. What we have found out with Brittany is that she is a happy and inviting girl who loves to play with other dogs and who loves to spoken to with kindness. She craves love which we are sure she got little of before. Her fav game is to chase a ball. She is young as in probably a year or 2 at the oldest and she weighs 26 pounds. She is being spayed 10/23 and has already started her shots and worming. She is picture perfect if you want a Beagle or small dog that is not tiny but resilient and fun and loving. We know she loves couches and dog company for playtime and hanging out. She’s housebroken and will definitely need a fenced yard to keep that Beagle nose safely within sight of your back door.
