Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. Sweet, gentle, and ready to discover just how wonderful life can be—meet Pony!Pony didn’t have the easiest start in life, but after spending time in a loving foster home, she’s gotten a taste of the life she deserves, and now she’s ready to find her forever family. Her foster mom says Pony has been a wonderful houseguest and has loved spending her days playing with her canine foster siblings and exploring the backyard whenever she gets the chance. Pony can be a little shy at first, but don’t let that fool you! Give her some gentle pets, a little love, and she’ll happily melt right into you. She’s still learning what it means to be a confident, well-rounded pup, so having another dog in her new home is important. A canine companion can help show Pony the ropes, build her confidence, and give her a buddy to play with. And when she wakes up from one of her cozy naps, she definitely has some energy to burn!Pony absolutely loves her crate and considers it her safe and happy space. Her new family will need a crate available for her so she always has a comfortable place to retreat and relax when she needs some downtime. One important note: Pony can be a little protective of her food when another dog is nearby, considering what she came from we`re not surprised, so she’ll need to be fed separately from any other canine companions in the home.Pony came to us heartworm positive, but the good news is that she has completed her heartworm treatment and is doing great! She will need a follow-up heartworm test at our clinic, which will be provided at no cost to her adopter.If you’re looking for a sweet girl who may need a little patience and encouragement but has so much love to give, Pony might just be your girl! Meet Barrelboy! This sweet hound boy didn`t have the greatest start to life, but after much TLC, he`s ready to find his new home! He can definitely be a bit nervous around new people, so we will require that everybody in the home comes to meet him before adoption, including other dogs, just to make sure everybody gets along. Barrelboy has done well with other dogs that meet his high energy play style. Once he gets comfortable though, Barrelboy is a sweetheart who loves attention and loves running and playing! He loves to eat and loves playing with toys, but he has been known to get a little protective over both, so make sure to give any food, treats, or toys separately if you have any other animals at home. Barrelboy is also not super educated in normal dog life, especially leash walking, so he will need some help with training and owners who have had dog experience in the past! Lastly, Barrelboy is unfortunately heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment at our clinic after going home; luckily though, our friends at PETA have covered the treatment costs! At around 7 years old and 50 pounds, Budgie has found the perfect balance between playful and relaxed. She still gets the occasional burst of excitement; those long hound legs can get a little bouncy when she's happy, but she settles down quickly and is just as content spending the afternoon curled up beside you for belly rubs or napping under a shady tree. Budgie is an easy dog to love. She seemed to shrink when she heard it, as though someone had used it unkindly.So we named her Courage. But once she's comfortable, another side of her personality emerges: the WHIPPET! She'd love a good game of fetch or a flirt pole, and a lure course might be her idea of paradise.
