Story
We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them.Clearly.Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run.At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary -- a running narration of life as your devoted shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and deeply loyal -- the kind of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time. What Parker has taught us is this: he isn’t built for chaos. He doesn’t thrive in busy households, and he’s not comfortable living with other pets or children. Leashed walks and unfamiliar environments increase his anxiety -- Parker is a homebody who feels safest when the world is small, predictable, and kind. He doesn’t need adventures. He needs consistency, patience, and a person who understands that love doesn’t always look loud.If you’re looking for a steady presence rather than a whirlwind, a loyal shadow rather than a social butterfly, Parker may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 12, 2026, 9:57 am

Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Bitty was adopted. Now it’s Itty’s turn.Once they were “Itty-Bitty” - two tiny Beagles who arrived together and tried to make sense of a very big world. Bitty found her home. Itty is still here, still trying.Itty is about two years old and unmistakably Beagle. He wants to connect - you can see it happen in real time. He darts forward, takes a quick, hopeful sniff, then hops back to process whatever his nose just reported. Curiosity pulls him in. Caution pushes him back. With each push and pull, he’s learning.Itty is expressive and has a voice, especially when things feel new or uncertain, but he’s not shutting the world out. He’s participating - just on his own timeline, with commentary.Food is the fastest way to Itty’s heart. Snacks turn strangers into friends, and friends into something he can start to trust. If you enjoy making new connections through shared snacks, you may already be his person. With consistency, patience, and a little humor, his confidence grows. Slowly, but genuinely.Itty does best with other dogs and would love a steady “helper pup” to show him how home works. And good news - Itty has completed his heartworm treatment. He's on the road to good health; now he just needs to find the road home. Come meet Itty and watch him try. That’s the part that gets you.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. Visiting hours are 9am to noon daily, including weekends and holidays.***Itty needs a home with a securely fenced yard.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Just a short time ago, they were chasing a trash truck together. A kind lady got them out of the street and took them to Sussex for safety. And now, we are able to welcome them to our shelter so that we can find them each their forever homes! We know for certain that they each need their own home. They survived together on the streets and then they roomed together at Sussex, but it seems once they got some more space and their own runs with us, they realized they preferred to be "next" to each other but not "with" each other.Alex and Marty are four-year-old beagles who are each adorable in their own way. They are just a smidge shy but quickly warm up to people once they realize you want to touch them in a kind way, not a harmful way.Alex is the tricolor/blue tick sweet boy - he is heartworm positive and has already started treatment (which is fully covered by AAS).Marty is the tricolor charming boy and just had ear infections.Alex and Marty seem visibly relieved to be with us but also surprised that people want to love them. They look at us as if to say, wait, you want to be nice to us? And once you start to pet them, they melt right into you. Please come meet Alex and Marty - let's celebrate their smartness of working together to survive and their quest now to just be friends from a distance, never forgetting each needed the other to survive.Come meet Alex & Marty at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton VA.
