Story
We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them.Clearly.Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run.At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary -- a running narration of life as your devoted shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and deeply loyal -- the kind of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time. What Parker has taught us is this: he isn’t built for chaos. He doesn’t thrive in busy households, and he’s not comfortable living with other pets or children. Leashed walks and unfamiliar environments increase his anxiety -- Parker is a homebody who feels safest when the world is small, predictable, and kind. He doesn’t need adventures. He needs consistency, patience, and a person who understands that love doesn’t always look loud.If you’re looking for a steady presence rather than a whirlwind, a loyal shadow rather than a social butterfly, Parker may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Meet Tallboy! This sweet hound boy didn`t have the greatest start to life, but after much TLC, he`s ready to find his new home! Tallboy is a very active boy that loves walks and is very passionate about getting there fast.. Tallboy may be a little shy at first and has not been around many dogs so we will require that everybody in the home comes to meet him before adoption, including other dogs, just to make sure everybody gets along. While here at the VBSPCA Tallboy has gotten along with various canines. We ask that children in the home be 10 and up but if you have younger kids please speak with our kennel team if this could be a match. Once he gets comfortable though, Tallboy is a sweetheart who loves attention and loves running and playing! He loves to eat and loves playing with toys, but he has been known to get a little protective over both, so make sure to give any food, treats, or toys separately if you have any other animals at home. He is food motivated which should help with training. Tallboy is also not super educated in normal dog life, especially leash walking and potty training, so he will need some help with training and owners who have had dog experience in the past! Lastly, Tallboy is unfortunately heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment at our clinic after going home; luckily though, our friends at PETA have covered the treatment costs! He`s adoption fee has also been covered by Checkered Flag VB! If you have any questions about this sweet boy, please ask our kennel staff and we`ll be happy to help!**Tallboy is a hound so we are recommending no shared walls

Story
Meet Fred! This very active younger hound is on the search for his perfect family. Fred was part of a recent transfer from our friends at PETA after being found in very poor living conditions with many other hounds. Since Fred has never lived with children we will require children in his future home be 10 and up. Fred has been very selective about other canines and still needs some work with proper socializing so at this time we will require Fred to be an only pet. He is also heartworm positive but not to worry our friends at PETA will be covering the cost of his heartworm treatment. Adopters should be prepared to bring Fred back to the VBSPCA Clinic to complete his treatment. Staff will be happy to discuss what this process looks like when you visit. If you have questions or would like to visit with Fred please speak with our kennel team who will be happy to help.

We reply to ALL emails within 72 hours! Looking for a loyal companion who's equal parts adventure buddy and professional couch potato? Meet Budgie, a lovable hound girl with the sweetest soul. At around 7 years old and 50 pounds, Budgie has found the perfect balance between playful and relaxed. She still gets the occasional burst of excitement; those long hound legs can get a little bouncy when she's happy, but she settles down quickly and is just as content spending the afternoon curled up beside you for belly rubs or napping under a shady tree. Budgie is an easy dog to love. She is: Sweet, affectionate, and gentle Great with other dogs Excellent in the car Crate trained and housetrained Good on a leash Calm for baths and nail trims No food or toy aggression Not a digger or fence jumper Budgie hasn't had the opportunity to be around children while in foster care, but her calm, easygoing temperament makes us think she'd do well with respectful kids. She has also shown interest in cats, mostly out of curiosity, so with slow introductions we believe she has the potential to adjust well. Budgie has been thoroughly vetted and is ready to start her next chapter: Spayed Heartworm negative Up to date on vaccinations Microchipped On monthly flea and heartworm prevention Healthy exam with excellent bloodwork She wore down her front teeth sometime before coming into rescue, giving her the cutest little gummy grin. The good news is her back teeth are in great shape, her veterinarian found no dental work was needed, and she's perfectly happy showing off that unique smile every chance she gets. Whether you're looking for a hiking companion for a trail walk, a co-pilot for car rides, or simply a best friend to lounge on the couch with while giving endless belly rubs, Budgie is happy to be right by your side. Symbiotic Inc has a required minimum $360 adoption donation upon the completion of the adoption (it is tax deductible!) All dog adoptions include a required, one hour virtual session with a professional trainer. Before the day of adoption, we will schedule a one hour "go home" session for you and your family with a professional trainer from Lucky Dogs Training, during which time they will discuss tips and tricks for bringing home a new dog and answer any questions you may have! This session is at no additional charge. www.LuckyDogstraining.net If you think this dog may be a good fit for your family, please visit our website and find out more about our application process. https://symbioticinc.org/adoption-application

Story
Mel was adopted from Animal Aid in 2019 when she was a younger Beagle with four legs, caramel-colored hair, and a firm belief that any unattended food should be hers.Recently, she came back to us a little older, a lot wiser - and missing a leg.A lump had gone untreated too long, and by the time Mel saw a veterinarian, her leg could not be saved. There's an important lesson here: Please do not ignore a lump - on yourself or on your dog. Lumps are not known for quietly reconsidering their life choices and moving away. The wonderful news is that Mel’s cancer had not spread. She's now healthy, happy, and fully recovered. She can move surprisingly fast on three legs. She just chooses not to.Mel prefers more sophisticated pursuits: being brushed, leaning her entire Beagle self against you while you scratch her head, resting in the shade, and softly howling hello to passing birds. The birds have not formally responded, but Mel remains committed to diplomacy. She's housetrained and was a fabulous family dog in a home with young children. She was returned for the usual complicated human reasons, none of which were her fault. At nine years old, Mel's not looking for adventure. She is looking for a soft bed, a shady spot, a good brush, and someone who understands that the finest moments in life are often spent leaning against a person who loves you.Come meet Mel at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. She's been waiting very patiently. Mostly in the shade. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Pippy arrived at Animal Aid Society with a tiny stuffed toy.The next morning, when I brought her breakfast, she greeted me proudly carrying it in her mouth, then walked beside me all the way to her apartment while I put down her food. Pippy is a Beagle, which means she considers breakfast less of a meal than a sacred event, and at a chonky 21 pounds she's carrying a little more Beagle than nature originally intended. She wanted that breakfast very badly. But, she also wanted to keep hold of her baby. She actually tried to eat without putting the stuffed toy down.I don't know what happened to Pippy before she came to us, and I don't need to. Watching a little dog try to solve the engineering problem of eating breakfast while hanging onto the only thing that made her feel secure told me enough.Pippy is about six years old and may be the sweetest, gentlest dog I've ever met. When you reach down to pet her, she instinctively crouches, as though she's trying to decide whether this hand is going to hurt her or be kind. When the hand lands softly, her whole body relaxes, her tail starts wagging, and her expression changes completely. It's impossible to watch without wondering how many times kindness lost that contest before it finally started winning. The shelter volunteers, being highly trained for these situations, responded exactly as you'd expect. We started bringing her more babies.Pippy now has an impressive collection of little stuffed toys. She carefully carries them around, proudly shows them to anyone willing to admire them, keeps them together, and treats them with astonishing tenderness. Somewhere along the way, something else changed, too. She now gently sets her baby down before she eats because she's beginning to believe it will still be there when she's finished. That may not sound like much, but around here we know better. Trust doesn't arrive all at once. Sometimes it shows up disguised as a little Beagle deciding it's safe to let go of a stuffed toy for five minutes.Pippy would love to meet you and show you her stuffies at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends and holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Story
For most of her life (maybe all of it), Belle had Noel. She may have even been Noel's daughter. Noel just went home....which leaves Belle on her own.Belle didn't understand at first, but now she is bouncing back to her former self. And, wow, what a self that is!Belle is five-years-old and has a bit of energy. Okay, maybe more than a bit. She has been known to climb a fence or two. But for as much energy as she has, she has even more love to give. Her sense of wanting to belong is strong. She is happiest with you, and once she gets all the hugs and love she needs, she is off to explore.Belle has the sweetest little face - her eyes will draw you right into her soul. She always appears to be smiling, which makes you want to give her perhaps an extra treat or two - the Beagle Charm! We would love for Belle to find her home, her place to call her own, her family to love forever. Can you help us?Our one guarantee - you will never be bored with Belle in your life! Come meet her and all of her friends at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, every single day from 9am-12pm!Interested?
