Story
This one broke our hearts twice – once for Parker, the sweet hound being surrendered, and then again for his kind human, who only wants the best for her pup.Parker was a loyal companion and the apple of his human mom’s eye. This healthy, housetrained, never destructive, sometimes silly, always adoring, 3-year-old Walker Hound absolutely thrived in his loving home! Then, his mom got sick. She tried so hard to care for him, but she was too ill to give Parker the exercise and attention he needs. Treatments and procedures kept her away from home for very long periods of time, and Parker was getting anxious and lonely.Knowing her condition wasn’t going to improve, this lady made an incredible sacrifice – she gave up her best friend, her source of comfort and joy, so that HE could live a full life. Her wish is for Parker to find a loving person or family who can give him the time, walks, and attention he deserves.Folks, not everyone has friends or family who are able or willing to take in a dog if they fall ill – so we’re looking to you, our family of dog-lovers, to help get Parker home! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!Parker’s mom told us that in the home, he got nervous when doors were closed – he loves people so much, he just wants to be able to see what they’re doing! He loves to play with soft, squeaky toys, sniff all the outside sniffs, and perch by the window to supervise neighborhood activities. At night, he sleeps soundly in bed after he’s tucked in with the blanket over his head.We hope you’ll have sweet dreams soon, Parker.Your family’s out there, waiting to tuck you in at night.Visiting hours are 9am to noon, every day including weekends & holidays.Parker is waiting for you at 80 Butler Farm Rd., Hampton, VA.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Gus is the sweetest, chilled boy you would ever want to meet.  Even though he has not been treated well, he still loves people.  He was picked up as a stray by one of the local county animal controls and nobody came looking for him.  He is great with other dogs and kids.  Not sure about cats but the hounds we have taken in the past are usually good with cats.   Unfortunately our little man is heart worm positive and will start treatment after neuter surgery and removal of several masses.  He is a couch potato who likes to watch TV with dogs on it and just snuggle with his people.  If you are looking for a friend who loves to go for sniff walks and snuggle in a comfy bed and watch TV with you,  Gus is your boy! If you would like to add this sweet boy to your family, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or email:  rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.com  May 12, 2025, 11:55 am

Story
This stunning young man is Mr.Wiggins! Mr. Wiggins was transferred to the NSPCA from another shelter in hopes of finding his forever home. Mr.Wiggins still has lots of puppy energy left and would thrive in a home that is active or has a large yard for him to play and run around in. We are unaware of Mr.Wiggins past and therefore are unsure if he is good with kids, cats, or dogs but he is willing to give them a try! If you are interested in this sweet young man ask a member of the staff for more information today!

Story
Murphy’s a chonky little dude with a pot belly and the body proportions of a loaf of bread wearing tube socks. And yet, somehow, he’s an engineering marvel.Despite the laws of physics and common sense, Murphy can stand on his hind legs and reach up for hugs. His reach only comes to about knee-height, so you may have to bend down and meet him halfway. Trust us: it’s worth it. He’ll press his soft little head into your chest like he’s melting right into you.Murphy is five years old, silly and sweet and full of gentle devotion. He’s got velvety ears, soft eyes, and a wag that never quits. He tosses toys to himself for fun. He snoozes like a champ. He follows his people from room to room with quiet loyalty and absolutely no concept of personal space.Murphy’s not a fan of other dogs, but let’s be honest -- Murphy is all you'll need. He’s a one-dog adventure buddy, nap partner, comedian, and soulmate, rolled into one.Another thing Murphy defies? Logic. He’s been here over 118 days. We don’t know why. He’s polite, neat, affectionate, low-maintenance, and hilarious. He gives soft little hugs. He sighs when he snuggles. He looks at you like you’re the best thing that’s ever happened.Murphy just finished heartworm treatment. He’s SO ready to start the rest of his life -- preferably curled up next to you.You can meet him at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. We’re open every day from 9 a.m. to noon, including weekends and holidays.Murphy has waited a long time. Too long. If you’re the kind of person who talks to your pets like they’re people and leaves space on the couch "just in case," Murphy might be your missing puzzle piece.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Hi, I`m Freya! I am a 3 year-old Beagle mix who is spayed, microchipped, and ready for adoption. I was surrendered to the shelter by my previous owner because they have no place for me to live. They say I am tolerant of children and other animals, but love to cuddle with my adult companions. I am energetic and love to run and play fetch. If you are interested in meeting me, come to the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter today!

Story
A bit from her previous foster:She’s amazing! Very good companion, affectionate, loves to walk (and run a lot ) and loves to sleep together. She doesn’t get along well with other animals, but with humans she’s super kind. She loves her biting toys, so she always has one in every corner of the house.`Hi there, I`m Dixie Lou! I`m young and full of life. I`m a friendly gal, always ready to greet everyone with a wagging tail. I`m gentle and mellow, preferring quiet moments of companionship. I`m also quite curious, always eager to learn new tricks. I`m smart, you see. I love playtime, it`s when my energetic side shines. But I can be a little shy at first, so please give me time to warm up. I think I would be happiest as the only pet in the house, and with no young children around. I need someone patient and understanding, who can appreciate my unique personality. Adopt me, and I promise to be your loyal companion, your confidante, and your best friend. I have so much love to give, and I`m just waiting for the right person to share it with. Will you be that person?
