Story
If you have ever adopted a hound, in an area full of hounds, there has to be a moment where you wonder - what did my hound look like as a puppy? So often, we get them when they are at least two years old and you can't help but wonder, what did this amazing hound look like when they were a tiny, little thing. We have your answer! Look no further than our two amazing walker hound puppies - Watermelon and Pineapple! At 9-weeks-old, these two have already charmed most every volunteer and everyone at the vet's office. Adorable doesn't even begin to describe them. They are two of the most fun-loving puppies we have ever had at the shelter.Watermelon (girl) and Pineapple (boy) are transfers to us from a rescuer in the middle part of the state. They were with their mom and one other sibling until just a week ago. They are pros at using their pee pads, which delights us all.But the coolest part about them is how they are helping another puppy we have become braver and more content. Reef is 21 weeks old and, with his sisters, was found as a stray. The group of them were doing their best to survive, just relying on each other.Reef's sisters have been adopted and he has been by himself. He was the most shy of the four and the hardest for visitors to get to know. But now, that is all changing. Reef has been drawn completely out of his shell by Watermelon and Pineapple. They won't leave him alone. You find yourself laughing the entire time you are watching them play - one will be walking along, only to be dive-bombed by another. At one point, one of them was riding Reef. They love tug-of-war and will then all take a break under the bed outside. And with each day, Reef gets braver.Watermelon and Pineapple, along with their new BFF Reef, are joy wrapped up in puppy bodies. They remind us all that stopping and watching puppies can bring on a peace you never realized you needed. Come meet them all every single day from 9am-12pm, at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

We could see Parker’s ribs. All of them.Clearly.Despite getting three big meals a day, plus treats, Parker was losing weight. He spent his days at the shelter running in frantic circles, then pacing when he was too tired to run.At night, he barked at every sound, every shadow, as if the world itself was closing in.So we tried an experiment: a kind volunteer offered to foster Parker. And just like that, the story changed. In a quiet home with routine and calm, Parker exhaled. His ribs disappeared beneath healthy weight. His pacing slowed to a steady trot at your side. His bark softened from panic to commentary -- a running narration of life as your devoted shadow.Parker is three years old, housetrained, crate trained, and so smart you’ll catch him studying you like he’s preparing for an exam. He’s polite, sensitive, and deeply loyal -- the kind of dog who wants to get it right for you, every time. What Parker has taught us is this: he isn’t built for chaos. He doesn’t thrive in busy households, and he’s not comfortable living with other pets or children. Leashed walks and unfamiliar environments increase his anxiety -- Parker is a homebody who feels safest when the world is small, predictable, and kind. He doesn’t need adventures. He needs consistency, patience, and a person who understands that love doesn’t always look loud.If you’re looking for a steady presence rather than a whirlwind, a loyal shadow rather than a social butterfly, Parker may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.***PARKER IS IN FOSTER. Story
Meet Walker! He came into the 4 PAWS family in May 2020; emaciated, heartworm positive and had several wounds. Walker has made a complete transformation! He is a sweet 7-year-old, 74lb silly boy who is good with kids and other dogs but hasn’t been cat tested. Walker was treated for heartworm and has tested negative. This breed mix can be high energy and very smart which means he will require exercise (mentally and physically). He will also need a 6ft fence with plenty of area to run. His new family needs to be committed to daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. If you are interested in adoption; DO NOT CALL, please complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore, we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet's best interest. #lovedogsforever #mixedbreed #walkerhound #rescuedisthebestbreed #dogs #dogsareacommittment #rescuedog #lovedogs #adopt #adoptdontshop His rescue journey video: https://youtu.be/kYnnAodx1lo

Story
Meet Tallboy! This sweet hound boy didn`t have the greatest start to life, but after much TLC, he`s ready to find his new home! Tallboy is a very active boy that loves walks and is very passionate about getting there fast.. Tallboy may be a little shy at first and has not been around many dogs so we will require that everybody in the home comes to meet him before adoption, including other dogs, just to make sure everybody gets along. While here at the VBSPCA Tallboy has gotten along with various canines. We ask that children in the home be 10 and up but if you have younger kids please speak with our kennel team if this could be a match. Once he gets comfortable though, Tallboy is a sweetheart who loves attention and loves running and playing! He loves to eat and loves playing with toys, but he has been known to get a little protective over both, so make sure to give any food, treats, or toys separately if you have any other animals at home. He is food motivated which should help with training. Tallboy is also not super educated in normal dog life, especially leash walking and potty training, so he will need some help with training and owners who have had dog experience in the past! Lastly, Tallboy is unfortunately heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment at our clinic after going home; luckily though, our friends at PETA have covered the treatment costs! He`s adoption fee has also been covered by Checkered Flag VB! If you have any questions about this sweet boy, please ask our kennel staff and we`ll be happy to help!**Tallboy is a hound so we are recommending no shared walls
