At around 7 years old and 50 pounds, Budgie has found the perfect balance between playful and relaxed. She still gets the occasional burst of excitement; those long hound legs can get a little bouncy when she's happy, but she settles down quickly and is just as content spending the afternoon curled up beside you for belly rubs or napping under a shady tree. Budgie is an easy dog to love. She is: Sweet, affectionate, and gentle Great with other dogs Excellent in the car Crate trained and housetrained Good on a leash Calm for baths and nail trims No food or toy aggression Not a digger or fence jumper Budgie hasn't had the opportunity to be around children while in foster care, but her calm, easygoing temperament makes us think she'd do well with respectful kids. She has also shown interest in cats, mostly out of curiosity, so with slow introductions we believe she has the potential to adjust well. Budgie has been thoroughly vetted and is ready to start her next chapter: Spayed Heartworm negative Up to date on vaccinations Microchipped On monthly flea and heartworm prevention Healthy exam with excellent bloodwork She wore down her front teeth sometime before coming into rescue, giving her the cutest little gummy grin. The good news is her back teeth are in great shape, her veterinarian found no dental work was needed, and she's perfectly happy showing off that unique smile every chance she gets. Whether you're looking for a hiking companion for a trail walk, a co-pilot for car rides, or simply a best friend to lounge on the couch with while giving endless belly rubs, Budgie is happy to be right by your side. Meet Fred! This very active younger hound is on the search for his perfect family. Fred was part of a recent transfer from our friends at PETA after being found in very poor living conditions with many other hounds. Since Fred has never lived with children we will require children in his future home be 10 and up. Fred has been very selective about other canines and still needs some work with proper socializing so we will require any resident canines to visit prior to adoption. This may take a few introductions to make sure Fred is a good match. Fred has been doing very well with his active canine friends he has made here at the shelter. He is also heartworm positive but not to worry our friends at PETA will be covering the cost of his heartworm treatment. Adopters should be prepared to bring Fred back to the VBSPCA Clinic to complete his treatment. Staff will be happy to discuss what this process looks like when you visit. Her foster mom says Pony has been a wonderful houseguest and has loved spending her days playing with her canine foster siblings and exploring the backyard whenever she gets the chance. Pony can be a little shy at first, but don’t let that fool you! Give her some gentle pets, a little love, and she’ll happily melt right into you. She’s still learning what it means to be a confident, well-rounded pup, so having another dog in her new home is important. A canine companion can help show Pony the ropes, build her confidence, and give her a buddy to play with. And when she wakes up from one of her cozy naps, she definitely has some energy to burn!Pony absolutely loves her crate and considers it her safe and happy space. Her new family will need a crate available for her so she always has a comfortable place to retreat and relax when she needs some downtime. One important note: Pony can be a little protective of her food when another dog is nearby, considering what she came from we`re not surprised, so she’ll need to be fed separately from any other canine companions in the home.Pony came to us heartworm positive, but the good news is that she has completed her heartworm treatment and is doing great! She will need a follow-up heartworm test at our clinic, which will be provided at no cost to her adopter.If you’re looking for a sweet girl who may need a little patience and encouragement but has so much love to give, Pony might just be your girl!
