Story
Meet Peri.   At first glance, she may look like a Cattle Dog/Heeler mix — freckles, expressive eyes, compact 33-pound frame — but her spirit is something uniquely her own. Peri is just one year old, and while she carries herself with quiet beauty, her early life was marked by hardship and mistreatment at the hands of the very people who should have protected her.   And yet… she is still loving.   Peri has spent the past several months working closely with a remarkable professional behaviorist, and the transformation has been incredible. She has learned that not all hands hurt, that gentle voices exist, and that safety can be real. She now approaches new people and experiences with growing curiosity, though she still carries a healthy caution. Her trust is not given away freely — it is earned — and that is exactly what makes the bond with her so profound.   She is deeply affectionate and incredibly sensitive. While she resembles a Heeler in looks, she is not a bold, bossy alpha personality. Peri is a soft soul. She needs a steady, protective human who will move at her pace, celebrate her small victories, and help her continue building confidence. With patience and kindness, she blossoms. And when she chooses you as her safe place, the loyalty and love she gives back are immeasurable.   Peri adores other dogs and thrives in their company. She has shown no prey drive, and her trainer/foster describes her as so docile and gentle that a respectful cat companion would likely be welcomed just fine. She is leash trained, crate trained, and housebroken — truly a wonderful little housemate who wants nothing more than to be near her person.   A fenced yard would give her the security she enjoys, and a home where she isn’t crated for long nine-hour workdays would help her continue to grow. If you work from home, she would happily sit nearby, offering quiet companionship and the kind of empathetic presence that feels almost human. Peri listens. She watches. She connects.   Her past will not disappear overnight. Healing is not a snap-of-the-fingers process. But for the right person — someone with patience, compassion, and a heart open to earning a once-broken dog’s trust — Peri will be extraordinary. She may not be a carefree Golden Retriever personality, but she will steal your heart just the same… freckles and all.   Peri is special. And the person who chooses her will be special too.   To learn more about adopting Peri, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 14, 2026, 11:43 am

Story
Deena — 8 Months Old | 25 lbs | Sweet, Gentle, and Ready for Her Forever Home Meet Deena, an 8-month-old bundle of joy with a heart full of love. She is a sweet, curious, and gentle girl who gets along beautifully with dogs, cats, and kids. Deena’s calm, happy spirit brings warmth and sunshine wherever she goes, making her a truly special companion. Her Story Deena, her mom, and her siblings were found abandoned near a hotel. Thanks to the incredible team at SOS El Arca Animal Rescue, the entire family was brought to safety, and all the puppies were raised in a secure, loving environment. Surrounded by care and gentle guidance from dedicated volunteers, Deena blossomed into a confident, affectionate young pup who is now ready for a forever home. Personality & Training Deena loves playtime, cuddles, and exploring the world around her. She is smart, eager to please, and learns quickly. She walks beautifully on a leash and responds very well to positive reinforcement. With consistency and patience, she will continue to thrive and make a wonderful walking and adventure companion. Foster Update Deena is currently being fostered in midtown Manhattan, where the busy noise and traffic can feel overwhelming for her. She truly shines in calmer environments and especially enjoys peaceful walks in the park with her foster siblings. Her ideal home would be a quieter setting where she can feel relaxed and secure. Deena is ready to share her love, joy, and gentle spirit with a family of her own. All she needs is someone to open their heart and home. Interested? Email us an application, and we’ll happily get back to you.

Story
Meet Jonas — a gentle, resilient 1.5-year-old, 35-lb sweetheart who’s looking for a loving home. Jonas is a truly special dog whose heart is overflowing with love. Despite being neglected and starved by the people who were supposed to care for him — left chained outside without compassion — Jonas never lost his sweetness. He just adores people, and his ability to trust and love after everything he endured is remarkable. A kind woman stepped in when she saw his condition and rescued him, bringing him to SOS El Arca Animal Rescue. There, Jonas received the medical care and slowly gained weight and strength. Today, Jonas is a grateful, affectionate companion. He follows his caretakers around, gently placing his head in their laps with those beautiful eyes that radiate tenderness and gratitude. We would love to find Jonas his forever home — or a foster-to-adopt home — in New York for our next transport on January 24th. His ticket is ready; he’s simply waiting for his person. Jonas is great with other dogs and gentle with cats. He walks beautifully on a leash — he practically flies beside you — with no training! He is smart, eager to please, and deeply connected to the people who care for him. Training & Temperament - Crate trained - Potty training is improving — consistency will help him settle quickly - Walks well on a leash - Gentle, affectionate, and very people-oriented - Friendly with dogs and cats - Easygoing and adaptable — a wonderful match for many different households Health Details - Neutered and microchipped - Up to date on vaccinations - Heartworm tested — negative - On flea, tick, and heartworm prevention - Dewormed If you’d like to learn more about Jonas or are interested in fostering or adopting, please visit sosanimalwelfare.org to complete an application or email sosanimalwelfare@gmail.com.
