🌟 Meet Missy Elliott!
🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Missy Elliott wasn't originally supposed to become an adoptable dog. She was supposed to go back to the streets.
Months before her rescue, Missy and her sister had been spotted wandering in La Esperanza, Mexico. Missy was eventually picked up as part of a local sterilization project, with the expectation that she would be spayed and returned to the area where she'd been living.
There was just one problem with that plan: everyone met Missy. 💕
Her rescuers quickly discovered an affectionate, calm girl with such a wonderful personality that they decided street life shouldn't be the next chapter of her story. Their notes say it simply: "Everyone loves her."
So instead of returning to the streets, Missy Elliott eventually got her own passport and traveled all the way from Mexico to FOHA! 🌎✈️
We're quickly discovering why her rescuers were so taken with her. Missy is very sweet and affectionate, loves to play, and is fascinated by all the smells she encounters outside. Walking is still a relatively new skill for her, though, and sometimes her enthusiasm gets ahead of her leash manners! She may hop around, reach the end of the leash, or suddenly break into a random zoom.
She especially likes feeling as though she's leading the expedition. If someone gets out in front of her, she can become unsure and stop moving. Quick movements can occasionally startle her too, although she generally recovers quickly.
With regular walks, patience, and positive experiences, we expect Missy will continue gaining confidence and figuring out this whole "walking together" thing.
And when you aren't exploring? Get ready for affection. Missy loves being close to her people and soaking up attention.
🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I was originally found wandering with my sister, so I do have a history of being around another dog.
My friends at FOHA are continuing to learn more about my current preferences with other dogs and can tell you more about how I'm doing.
🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:
My history with cats is unknown. Just ask my friends at FOHA about a cat test!
👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
My friends at FOHA are still learning more about how I may do with children. Because I can sometimes be startled by quick movements, they'll help determine whether I'm a good match for the kids in your family.
🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
My previous caregivers described me as obedient, but walking on a leash is still a relatively new experience for me.
I'm getting the hang of it! I can walk nicely, but sometimes excitement takes over and I'll hop, bounce, pull ahead, or suddenly zoom because there is simply too much world waiting to be explored.
Regular walks and positive leash training should help me continue learning how to adventure alongside my person instead of trying to lead the entire expedition myself. 😄
🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
My friends at FOHA are still learning about my housebreaking and crating habits as I settle in.
💖 THINGS I LIKE:
Sniffing EVERYTHING • Exploring • Walks • Playing • Getting affection • Spending time with people • Leading the adventure • Zoomies • Investigating new smells • Being close to my humans
⚠️ THINGS I'M WORKING ON:
Leash manners • Getting comfortable with someone walking ahead of me • Building confidence around quick movements • Learning that walks don't require quite so much hopping and zooming • Adjusting to all the new experiences that come with shelter life
Missy Elliott has already had one pretty important group of people decide that she was simply too special to let go.
Maybe it was her affectionate personality. Maybe it was her sweet nature. Maybe it was those wonderfully distinctive markings. Or maybe it was the whole package.
Whatever it was, a dog who was expected to return to life on the streets instead received a chance to travel hundreds of miles in search of something completely different.
Missy is still learning how to navigate this new world—sometimes walking nicely, sometimes hopping around, and occasionally throwing in a surprise zoomie for good measure.
Now she needs someone willing to join her for the rest of the journey. Because after going from street dog to international traveler, Missy Elliott is ready to add one more title:
Beloved family dog. 💕🏡
