Story
UMA DID NOT DESERVE TO BE DUMPED!! Meet Uma Furman (AKA Uma Thurman), a tiny 4 year old and 10 lb Yorkie Maltese mix with a sweet soul and a touch of Hollywood sparkle! Sadly, she was found abandoned in Compton alongside her puppy and another dog believed to be her sister, with no collar, tag, or microchip. A good Samaritan took them in, hoping to find their owner. After posting about them online and no one came forward, it became clear they had been dumped. Shelter Hope heard her story and took in the entire little family. (We are happy to report her puppy has since been adopted!) We got Uma fixed, vaccinated and microchipped right away. At the clinic they discovered she has a heart murmur, but she takes it like a champ! When Uma first came in she was understandably very shy and shut down, but in the past few weeks we’ve seen such a wonderful transformation in her! Uma is now a bubbly, outgoing, and active little girl who absolutely loves attention. She’s truly the definition of sweet. She's happy, snuggly, and quietly affectionate. She also enjoys relaxing in her cozy dog bed and gets along beautifully with other dogs. Uma Furman is ready for the spotlight! She can't wait to become the star of her very own forever home! -------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. More on our process: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

Story
Meet Charlesl! He is the sweetest boyl! He is a 1 year old that was rescued from a shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Charles and some of his family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app December 9, 2025, 8:26 pm

Story
Even though 8 lb, 10-year-old Toby is Special Needs, he is quite amusing and completely adorable. He can hear but is never quite sure where what he hears is coming from. While his eyesight is not great, he can absolutely see. We believe he is a Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese Mix although we are not certain. He has arthritis in his lower back so while his little legs will not be running in a marathon, what his Foster Mom has observed is once Toby is warmed up and starts walking she has trouble catching him. He is not completely housetrained but Foster Mom knows this so as soon as she hears him stirring, she puts him in the yard, he does his business and all is well. Toby loves being petted, held and is comfortable on people’s laps. As can be seen from one of the photos, his hair was horrifically overgrown when found in the street. He needed to be shaved down as he was full of mats, burrs and foxtails. He sleeps beautifully through the night and is fine with other dogs and cats. The only time Toby barks is if his Foster Mom is slow at feeding time! Toby is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in him, please go to our website: www.amrdog.org and complete the application. LOCAL AREA ADOPTION

Story
Hello there… I’m Lulu — a tiny 8-lb Yorkshire Terrier mix with the sweetest heart I’m 8 years old, spayed, and friendly with absolutely everyone. I love being held, I love meeting new people, and I adore being close to someone who makes me feel safe. I looooove belly scratches. I do have diabetes, which means I need insulin every day and special food to stay healthy. But I feel great and show no signs of illness. I’m very easy about my routine — I just need someone compassionate and committed… the kind of person with a true Mother Theresa heart who can love and care for me for the rest of my life. Other than my daily insulin, I’m incredibly low-maintenance: cuddly, calm, cheerful, and always ready to give love. If you’re someone with a big heart — someone who can give a tiny girl like me the consistent care and forever love I’ve been waiting for — I’d be so grateful to call you mine. Much Love, Lulu.

Story
Hi there, I’m Chip! I’m a 12-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mix, and even though I’m a little guy at just 6 pounds, I’ve got a huge personality! Everyone says I’m adorable, playful, and just plain cute — and honestly, I have to agree. Don’t let my age fool you — I’ve still got plenty of pep in my step and love to play. I’m happiest when I’m near my people, whether we’re snuggling on the couch or taking a short stroll together. I’m a sweet little gentleman looking for a cozy forever home where I can share all my love (and charm, of course!). Much Love, Chip

Story
Roscoe is a tiny, snow-white Maltese with big teddy-bear eyes and a sweet button nose. He’s incredibly cute, expressive, and will be back to his fluffy self once his fresh haircut grows back. He’s energetic for his age, curious once comfortable, and loves exploring or snuggling into blankets. Roscoe warms up slowly but bonds deeply — his previous owner passed away, and he clearly loves having a person to be close to… and yes he looks adorable in sweaters. He’s mostly potty trained, loves his walks and has no problem on a leash, tolerates the crate well, and does best in a calm, quiet home (a retiree or someone with a mellow routine would be ideal). He is building confidence quickly. A perfect little companion with a gentle, loyal heart.
