UMA DID NOT DESERVE TO BE DUMPED!! Meet Uma Furman (AKA Uma Thurman), a tiny 4 year old and 10 lb Yorkie Maltese mix with a sweet soul and a touch of Hollywood sparkle! Sadly, she was found abandoned in Compton alongside her puppy and another dog believed to be her sister, with no collar, tag, or microchip. A good Samaritan took them in, hoping to find their owner. After posting about them online and no one came forward, it became clear they had been dumped. Shelter Hope heard her story and took in the entire little family. (We are happy to report her puppy has since been adopted!) We got Uma fixed, vaccinated and microchipped right away. At the clinic they discovered she has a heart murmur, but she takes it like a champ! When Uma first came in she was understandably very shy and shut down, but in the past few weeks we’ve seen such a wonderful transformation in her! Uma is now a bubbly, outgoing, and active little girl who absolutely loves attention. She’s truly the definition of sweet. She's happy, snuggly, and quietly affectionate. She also enjoys relaxing in her cozy dog bed and gets along beautifully with other dogs. Uma Furman is ready for the spotlight! She can't wait to become the star of her very own forever home! -------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. More on our process: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This little dog is geriatric and presented with a thin body condition score (2/9), hearing and vision loss, dermatitis, and significant difficulty rising and ambulating. Veterinary evaluation diagnosed chronic kidney disease and an active kidney infection, accompanied by lethargy, weight loss, anemia, and ongoing vomiting. The dog also has difficulty standing and walking, likely related to spinal disease (spondylosis) and a right-sided luxating patella. Additional medical concerns include KCS (dry eye), entropion, periodontal disease, and generalized dermatitis.Due to the presence of multiple severe, progressive conditions, the dog is experiencing ongoing suffering with a poor quality of life and a poor prognosis for recovery. Humane euthanasia is recommended.

Story
Hello there… I’m Lulu — a tiny 8-lb Yorkshire Terrier mix with the sweetest heart I’m 8 years old, spayed, and friendly with absolutely everyone. I love being held, I love meeting new people, and I adore being close to someone who makes me feel safe. I looooove belly scratches. I do have diabetes, which means I need insulin every day and special food to stay healthy. But I feel great and show no signs of illness. I’m very easy about my routine — I just need someone compassionate and committed… the kind of person with a true Mother Theresa heart who can love and care for me for the rest of my life. Other than my daily insulin, I’m incredibly low-maintenance: cuddly, calm, cheerful, and always ready to give love. If you’re someone with a big heart — someone who can give a tiny girl like me the consistent care and forever love I’ve been waiting for — I’d be so grateful to call you mine. Much Love, Lulu.

Hi there, I’m Chip! I’m a 12-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mix, and even though I’m a little guy at just 6 pounds, I’ve got a huge personality! Everyone says I’m adorable, playful, and just plain cute — and honestly, I have to agree. Don’t let my age fool you — I’ve still got plenty of pep in my step and love to play. I’m happiest when I’m near my people, whether we’re snuggling on the couch or taking a short stroll together. I’m a sweet little gentleman looking for a cozy forever home where I can share all my love (and charm, of course!). Much Love, Chip

Story
Meet Bootz! She’s an adorable and sweet 3-month-old, 4 lb Maltese/Terrier mix. Bootz comes from Bakersfield. Her mama hadn’t been spayed and ended up having five puppies from several litters—so one dog became six. Feeling overwhelmed, her previous owner decided to surrender the entire little family. The city shelter in Bakersfield is so overcrowded and stretched beyond its limits, and thousands of unwanted dogs are euthanized each year simply because there isn’t enough space. Stories like Bootz’s are why spaying and neutering pets is so important and why we rescue hundreds of dogs from Bakersfield every year. Despite her rough start, Bootz is full of sunshine. She is ready for a forever home who will give her all the love and snuggles she deserves! More from her foster: She never stops moving! Out of the litter, she loves people the most—such a sweet girl. She enjoys spending time in the yard and playing outside. She wants to be by your side every step of the way! A true companion, she connects well with other dogs and is warming up to both people and kids. -------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
James Bone 007 is on a mission, not to save the world, but to find his forever home! This dashing 9-year-old, 13 lb Maltese-Pom mix was found wandering the streets of Compton after an ICE raid, likely separated from his owner. With no microchip and no way to trace his family, James spent a month in foster care while neighbors searched for his owner. Then, he was brought to us at Shelter Hope in the hopes of finding him a wonderful new home. Since moving in with his foster family, James has proven himself to be a true gentleman. His foster says he seems house-trained (not a single accident!) and will politely sniff at the door when he needs to go out. He walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys leisurely strolls in the park, and, like any alert little secret agent, keeps an eye on the world around him, sometimes barking at other dogs or out the window. James is a wonderful companion with excellent manners. He adores children, warms up easily to adults, and loves being near his humans, though he’s also independent enough to settle quietly on his own. He enjoys snuggles and pets but isn’t overly clingy, and he’ll happily follow you from room to room, waiting patiently by your side. Though his foster noticed that his hearing may not be the best, James doesn’t let it slow him down one bit. He’s thriving, happy, and ready to share his sweet, steady presence with a family who will love him. James Bone 007 is ready for his greatest adventure yet, finding a forever family to call his own! ------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers.
