Story
DOB 4-24-2025 Izzie is looking for a Mom! She is a baby that likes to stay close, a 24 hour girl. Izzie is social, loves to play, gets along great with others and wants to be an important part of her future home. She will be between 7 and 8 pounds, has a natural tail and gorgeous ears with a cute little face. She is very smart and focused. She is up to date on all medical, spayed, heartworm negative and has received a ProHeart6 heartworm preventative infection. Her adoption fee is 900.00 and her transport fee is 165.00. Our transport is HEARTS LLC they leave every other Friday to deliver their stops on Saturday to the East Coast The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Current Location: Stevensville, MD ✨ Meet Nami — A Little Soul Ready for His Second Chance ✨ Nami is a 6‑year‑old Yorkie Poo who has already lived through far more than any dog should. Rescued from a hoarding situation, this tiny boy is still learning what safety, gentleness, and steady love feel like. Right now, he’s extremely nervous and very shut down — not because he doesn’t want to connect, but because the world has never shown him how. Despite his fear, Nami is one of the gentlest dogs you’ll ever meet. He’s quiet, easy to care for, and asks for so little. Soft scratches are his comfort zone, though he still trembles if handled more than that. The real Nami — the one who plays, trusts, and relaxes — is still tucked away, waiting for the right person to help him blossom. What Nami Needs Nami would do best in a calm to medium‑energy home where he can feel safe without constant commotion. While he doesn’t mind children, it’s important that any kids in the home are quiet, gentle, and respectful of his space — like the ones he’s currently living with. He loves other animals and seems to find comfort in their presence, so a confident, social resident dog could be a huge help in building his confidence. He is still brand new to the concept of leash walking and would be considered a high flight risk at this stage. A fenced yard is preferred, but a committed adopter willing to use secure equipment (such as a harness + martingale) and safety protocols could also work. Nami absolutely needs slow, positive‑reinforcement‑based handling and fear‑reducing support. He’s not aggressive — in fact, he’s a very low bite risk — but his fear is very real and must be met with patience and empathy. Trainer’s Perspective With 12 years of professional dog‑training and evaluation experience, I see in Nami a dog with tremendous opportunity for growth. He shows no signs of aggression and is wonderfully gentle with both people and other animals — a solid foundation for building trust. His fearfulness and sensitivity around handling simply reflect a dog who hasn’t yet been shown what safety feels like, and who will thrive with patient, positive‑reinforcement support to help him gain confidence. Leash skills and housetraining are still works in progress, but that’s to be expected given his history, and he’s already demonstrating a calm nature and an ability to settle well. With a secure environment, thoughtful management, and a compassionate adopter, Nami has every potential to blossom into the loving companion he’s meant to be. Who He’s Looking For Nami is a dog for someone who truly wants to rescue — someone with a gentle heart and a patient spirit. Someone who understands that trust can’t be rushed. Someone who will celebrate tiny victories and offer steady reassurance on the hard days. If you’ve been hoping to change a dog’s life in a deep, meaningful way — Nami is that dog. He deserves a new beginning, a soft place to land, and someone who can show him that the world has so much more to offer than what he’s known so far. "This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read about heartworm disease here: Read more about heartworm disease at https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics"

Story
Current Location: Spring Grove, PA Meet Nathan: A Spirited Little Adventurer Looking for His Perfect Match This scruffy 13 pound terrier poodle mix is a bundle of blonde and gold energy just waiting to brighten your days! At 3 years old, Nathan has the spirit of a dog who believes life is meant to be lived at full throttle: running, playing, fetching, and repeating. Nathan is already showing great promise in some areas. He's crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night without a peep. He's mostly leash trained and ready to go on walks with you (though he might need a little reassurance when darkness falls, as he's still working on being brave at night). He absolutely loves his chew toys and will happily chase after a ball or toy for as long as you're willing to throw it. This active little guy is still mastering some life skills. He's working on housebreaking and does best when given structure and a consistent routine. He doesn't know commands yet, but he's ready and willing to learn with a patient teacher. Nathan is great with other dogs, though his enthusiasm knows no bounds. He'd absolutely thrive with another playful canine companion who matches his energy and loves to romp. Fair warning: he will chase cats, so a feline free home is best. Nathan needs an active family who appreciates his zest for life and is ready to continue his training journey. Someone who will give him plenty of exercise, engaging playtime, and the guidance to become his best self. If you're looking for a fun loving, spirited companion who will keep you moving and make you smile, Nathan is your guy!

Story
NAME: Jenkins BREED: Yorkie/Schnauzer Mix BIRTHDAY: 2013 WEIGHT: 15lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   Jenkins is the happiest little fellow we've ever met! His little tail never stops wagging, and he's always up for an adventure outside, in the car, or with new people or animals, despite being completely blind. He does bump into things frequently but that never stops him from having a good time and making new friends. Jenkins' favorite things are back scratches, snacks, and naps. Although the shelter initially listed his age at 7, we believe he is a good deal older than that: however, he appears to be in good overall health and will complete his heartworm treatments in March. &#226&#128&#139 Jenkins is currently in a foster home and they were hoping it would be a permanent stay, but with two young children (who Jenkins adores), house training has proven to be a bit much. We will gladly place Jenkins in a home with respectful kids, but his new family should be mindful that he does need to be supervised or kept in a confined area. He wears wraps with no issue so this is helpful. If you have a little patience and a lot of love to give, Jenkins will bring joy to your life!  February 18, 2026, 12:48 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Gigi is a spirited, affectionate dog who loves being held and showered with attention. She has endless energy and absolutely loves playing with other dogs and running freely. Everyone who meets Gigi falls in love with her sweet, loving personality. She seems to be good with cats and would thrive in a home with another playful canine companion. She also needs a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and enjoy her energetic lifestyle. REQUIREMENTS: MUST HAVE ANOTHER SMALL DOG, MUST HAVE A FENCED YARDVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
