You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Update: Falkor has completed his Heartworm treatment and is doing extremely well.  He needs to remain calm for the next two months while the nasty dead heart worms are absorbed by his body. He is a very lovable little guy and would make an excellent companion for an elderly person. He loves nothing more than to be in your lap or nearby.      This baby was picked up by Harris County animal control running intact, and not surprising, he is heartworm positive. We'll get him properly vetted.  First, neuter. Then, HW treatment. This happy playful baby did not deserve to be so neglected.   He needs a home that can help him recover.  We will pay for his treatment and provided all medications.  Can you give him a temporary home (or, if you want to adopt him, FOSTER-to-adopt) His treatment will take 90 days.  during this time, he needs to stay 'low and slow'  crate rest while the heartworms die.  (not literally in a crate, but restricted activity)Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 21, 2024, 9:45 pm

She LOVES belly loves.  She's playful, kennel trained, gets along with dogs and kids. She's just the sweetest little girl! The firefighter reached out to us after a couple of weeks to see if we could help him, as no one came forward and they already had several dogs. This baby is missing one eye, and is visually impaired in the other.  We believe he is totally sightlessVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 21, 2024, 9:45 pm

She still has a ways to go but she is slowly learning to trust humans. When we started she was terrified of her leash, didn’t want to be held or picked up, kept a 10 foot distance from humans, and froze in fear when we went outside for a walk. I’m happy to say she now will stop and let me pick her up and hold her without trying to get away, she gets super excited when it’s time for a walk, I can pet her without her cringing in fear, and she is slowly trusting other humans. She loves dogs and I think they have helped tremendously with her fear and anxiety along with teaching her how to be a dog. She had obviously not experienced being a pet and having good interactions with people. She still has a ways to go but every day she makes new strides. Her ideal home needs to be one with patience and willingness to help her continue to grow and learn to trust. She needs atleast one animal companion to help teach her and ease her anxiety. Having time for walks and attention would be ideal. A calm home with adults or older children only is gonna be best for this girl. She has come a long way with potty training but still needs some work. Mostly when I am away at work for longer periods and this will likely improve as her fear and anxiety decreases. ZsaZsa is the sweetest little girl and fairly quiet. She likes to fetch toys but mostly keep them lol. Watching squirrels in the trees, exploring outside or just laying in the shade are many of her loves. She will make a great companion if you’re willing to give her time and earn her trust.    Ms. Zsa Zsa will become a wonderful little girl once she finds her human and learns to trust again. She is fearful, shy, and reserved at this time. Zsa Zsa will need a lot of one-on-one time to help her grow into the little dog she was meant to become. This girl came in with another little girl.  We agreed to take these girls from a rescue in N. Texas rescue who took them in as a 'breeder dump'.  They have high anxiety and extreme fear. They are not available yet. They need to better adjust before they are adopted. Zsa Zsa is more friendly than Maggie.  However her anxiety has manifested itself in some self -harm.  She scratched herself raw.  We immediately took her to our vet for labs and no medical issue was found.  We gave her a cytopoint injection to help keep her comfortableVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 21, 2024, 9:45 pm

Story
Greetings! The name's Happy and I think it really suits me well. My story of how I got to K9AR isn't as happy though, as my favorite person in the whole wide world passed away suddenly, so K9AR was entrusted into finding me another happy ending with hopefully a new favorite person or family. Since my person worked from home, I'm not used to being alone so someone who works from home or is home during the day would be perfect for me! My perky ears, perpetually wagging tail, and soulful brown eyes are sure to reel you in. I like taking long naps on couches, preferably in the same room as my family. I walk very nicely on the leash and I know to handle all of my bathroom business outside the house. I'm very friendly with my foster dog roommate and the younger kids I am staying with. My bark sounds a bit like a quack, and I am eager to let you know when someone is at the door or when I need your attention. If you've got room in your home for a little fellow like me, I can easily become your indispensable companion. Happy is a Male Yorkie/Chihuahua Mix (Chorkie) that we estimate to be born around 4/14/2015 and weighs 7.6 lbs.
