Story
Nico is a 2.5-year-old neutered male Akita on Long Island, NY. He is a loyal, devoted dog who bonds deeply with his person and thrives with an experienced owner familiar with Akitas or similar guardian breeds. He is calm and well-mannered in the house, fully housebroken, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Nico enjoys daily structure, 45-minute walks, backyard play, and quiet time at home. He eats Arcana food twice daily and knows commands such as sit, stay, wait, down, paw, up, and settle. He has completed puppy classes and private training. Nico must be the only pet and should live in an adult-only home. He is naturally protective and does best with clear boundaries, consistency, and calm introductions. In the right home, Nico will be an incredibly loyal companion and steady presence. This rehoming is being done responsibly due to major life changes, with his long-term well-being as the top priority. He is a special dog who will be deeply devoted to the right person.

Story
Hilly is a Sweet, soulful, and a secret snuggle-bug, Hilly is a 4½-year-old Bullmastiff with the gentlest eyes and a heart full of quiet devotion. She can be a little shy when meeting new people but with patience and kindness, Hilly quickly reveals her true self, a loving, loyal companion who forms deep bonds. Once she feels safe, Hilly melts into affection, gazing up at you with soft eyes and happily soaking up every bit of love. She enjoys calm leash walks, relaxed hang-out time, and peaceful companionship. Toys, especially balls, are her favorite! Hilly already knows how to “sit” and would do best in a calm, understanding home with older kids. She’s polite, gentle, and well-mannered. If you’re searching for a loyal, tender-hearted dog whose love runs deep, Hilly may be the perfect match. Story
Saki came to HHR by way of our rescue friends in GA. Saki was scheduled for euthanasia for being a special needs dog. She is at least partially hearing impaired and has a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). CH is a permanent condition caused by exposure to distemper while in utero. The exposure causes underdevelopment of the cerebellum in the brain- the part responsible for fine motor skills. CH does not affect Saki’s health, but it is the reason her head bobbles and she walks a little differently than other dogs. We think it only adds to her personality. She is a silly, playful, energetic girl that loves to run and play. She gets along with other dogs in her foster home but can also be a bit rude in the beginning because her condition leaves her less able to read cues from other dogs. Saki would be best suited for a home with adults or older kids (teens and up). Saki is about two and a half years old and weighs 58 lbs. She is spayed; vaccinated for rabies, distemper, and bordetella; microchipped; and recently treated for heartworm by our veterinarian. Saki is current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Meet Mickey! 🐾 This irresistible 10-week-old Pitsky (Pit Bull/Husky mix) is truly the whole package. Cute, clever, and full of personality, Mickey is ready to become someone’s loyal best friend. With his striking looks and playful spirit, he turns heads everywhere he goes. Mickey is already crate trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and is doing wonderfully with his house training — even with a few snowy setbacks slowing him down! Smart and eager to please, he’s picking things up quickly. True to his Husky roots, Mickey loves to frolic in the snow and zoom around the yard. He’s a big fan of toys, playtime, and staying active. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, adores children, and would thrive in a home ready to embrace his fun-loving, adventurous spirit. If you’re ready to add laughter, love, and a little snowy mischief to your life, Mickey is waiting to meet you! Apply today at www.almosthomeli.org 🐶💕
