Meet Jack – The Shelter’s Very Own Batman Villain (With a Heart of Gold)Don’t let the dramatic face fool you — behind Jack’s striking, villain-worthy looks is a lovable goofball with a flair for the theatrical and a heart as big as Gotham City. With his bold markings, intense stare, and slightly mischievous grin, Jack could easily pass as a Batman villain’s loyal sidekick — or maybe even the villain himself if treats were the prize. But don’t worry, his “evil mastermind” vibe is all show. Deep down, he’s just a cuddly, quirky sweetheart who loves belly rubs, squeaky toys, and plotting elaborate cuddle attacks on his favorite humans.Jack is full of personality — charmingly dramatic, hilariously expressive, and always ready to make an entrance. He’s smart, curious, and always has that “I’m up to something” sparkle in his eyes. He’s looking for a forever home where he can be the center of attention, share his big opinions, and maybe even star in his own origin story. Jack would love an adopter who appreciates a dog with flair, brains, and a touch of drama.Ready to welcome a little chaos, charm, and comic-book-level cool into your life? Come meet Jack — the villain you’ll absolutely want on your side.Jack`s adoption fee was $200 (fee has been sponsored), which includes his neuter, microchip, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test (if over 9 months old), and kept up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. If you are interested in adopting Jack, you may fill out an application at www. tlchs.org or you are welcome to make a Match Making appointment to come out and meet him first. Story
Meet Jackalope! Jackalope (2 years, 43 lbs) is one sweet and affectionate fella. He wants nothing more than to play and have a good ol' time with some new people friends. Jackalope loves attention and will melt into your arms if you give him some. He saves all his love for his favorite people so he is not keen on doggie friends. This means Jackalope would need an only animal house who can give him all the love they have! Contact us to schedule a meet and greet by calling (706)2659160 or emailing info@dawsoncountyhumanesociety.org!

Story
Meet Callie Beautiful, sweet, playful, and affectionate Callie. We rescued her from a high kill animal control. She was a young pup at the time and we thought for sure she’d be adopted given her sunny looks and bubbly personality. Sadly, she’s been overlooked again and again. Callie is five years old now. Her whole life has been spent behind bars and for absolutely nothing she did, except be born and abandoned. We love this girl beyond measure. She has been nothing but amazing since arriving those many years ago. The shelter confinement has taken its toll on her psyche though. She is still outgoing for those she knows. She loves her people, and has fun in the yard, but Callie is afraid of the outside world. She’s afraid of getting in a car. Perhaps because the last time that happened, her entire life changed. That said, we believe that once in a loving, stable and quiet home with a fenced yard and a bit of time to get used to her ‘freedom,’ Callie is going to be the most loyal and loving companion. She’s become a little shy with new people. Not aggressive, but reticent to get involved, knowing she most likely won’t see them again. After more than three years of not meeting a lot of new people, this is not unexpected. BUT, for those she loves and trusts, her bond is strong, and her attention fills up your whole heart. We’ve seen many of our longer-term residents, once under the gentle guidance and love of their family, blossom into confident dogs that learn to love car rides, go for walks, meet new people and even get to know other dogs, under supervision of course. Despite her reluctance to embrace the unknown, Callie is a hoot and keeps us laughing with her antics, her happy tail wag and laughing smile. She is incredibly friendly when feeling safe. She LOVES being with her people. She loves having her ears and belly scratched. She loves to run and romp in the yard. She can be a strong leash walker, but knowing that prevents surprises. Callie is affectionate and welcomes attention, a lot of it! Callie is a shelter favorite. She doesn’t tend to like other dogs (maybe it’s fear of the unknown) and chases cats. We think Callie will do best as an only pet. She is a fantastic girl with so much love and companionship to offer her family or person. Once the walls that Callie’s built up to protect herself come down, she’s all in. She is definitely a keeper for the person or family willing to give her a chance. Might that be you? If interested in Callie, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Abby Abby is the gentlest of souls. Her story is heartbreaking, but sadly not unusual. This big girl was neglected and abandoned by multiple people. With no one to love her, she landed at a high kill shelter. She was terrified of the noises and smells and the people. She’d cower and shake, trying to disappear into the concrete walls. With overwhelming fear and kennel space running out, she was set for euthanasia. Thankfully, a team of volunteers brought her to our attention. After seeing her in videos, we knew she was not aggressive, just flat out petrified. Since arriving, Abby has been thriving under the care of our staff and volunteers, and the more relaxed environment of our shelter. Abby is a six-year-old American bulldog/cattle dog mix. She has a gorgeous brindle coat, a pretty face and the saddest of eyes that are just beginning to show a glimmer of hope for a kinder, gentler life. She has some skin issues, but we’re working to heal her dry patches and in just a few weeks she is looking much better. Where just a few weeks ago Abby cowered, now she is enjoying human touch and loves spending 1:1 time with her people. She loves going for strolls and she walks slowly and easily on a leash. She doesn’t play favorites and loves everyone on our staff and our volunteers who walk her. She is completely house-trained. Abby doesn't seem to prefer other dogs right now and maybe do best as the only dog in the house. We’ll test her with cats. She has a calm, easy-going, and low-key demeanor. She doesn’t require a lot of exercise, preferring instead to sniff her way through a walk. She startles sometimes, but her reactions are to pause and look to her walker for reassurance. Abby loves scratchies and pets. She is becoming more affectionate and looks for human interaction and connection. She loves treats and takes them so softly as if not believing her good fortune. Abby may be a great choice for a less active person/family who is looking for a big love bug to be their companion. She must be an indoor dog and have a fenced yard to keep her safe. She has terrific manners. Abby’s confidence was shattered by her previous humans, but with kindness and patience and working at her pace, she is growing braver every day. Abby is a gem of a dog. The family/person who adopts her will be richly rewarded with a loving and loyal companion. She is one-of-a-kind and we are so grateful to be a part of her journey towards finding a wonderful loving home. If interested in welcoming Abby to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. Story
A foster-to-adopt option is available for me, giving us the chance to get to know each other before making it official! Meet Bruno Mars, a 10-year-old dog who truly defines what it means to be a perfect companion! Bruno was adopted as a puppy and is now back in our care through no fault of his own — he’s simply looking for the loving home he deserves. This sweet boy is wonderful with dogs, kids of all ages, and all the people he meets. He’s housetrained, crate trained, and knows a variety of commands including sit, stay, paw, no, inside, walk, lay down, upstairs, bed, and home. Bruno is affectionate, well-behaved, and genuinely a joy to have around. Bruno does need surgery for a previously torn ACL that wasn’t treated before, but we will cover the procedure through our partner vets at no cost to his adopting family. After surgery, he’ll require crate rest and short, controlled walks during his recovery, and then he’ll be ready to enjoy many more years of love and companionship. If you’re looking for a loyal, well-mannered, and loving dog, Bruno Mars is the closest thing to perfect you can find — he’s ready to steal your heart and be your best friend for life! Bruno Mars currently weighs about 73lbs., is approximately 10 years old (est. birth date 11/27/2017), and his adoption fee is $185. Bruno Mars has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations & preventatives, and is microchipped. If you want to know more about Bruno Mars, please complete a survey at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FKDS/Dog.
