Story
Meet Pax If Pax doesn't take your heart we're not sure who will. This guy is uber awesome. We rescued Pax from a high-kill shelter, along with his half-siblings Mollie and Ollie, and three other dogs. We put them on their Freedom Ride for Life and they never looked back. He is a gem! Pax is thought to be a four-year old American Bulldog/Pointer mix. He's all muscle at 58 lbs. Pax is adorable with a sleek white coat and a jaunty patch over one ear that gives him impish charm. Pax is always smiling and has a welcoming, friendly demeanor that makes you want to be around him. Pax is a calm and pretty chill dude, but he loves to play. He seems to get along well with other dogs. Pax is described by all who have worked with him as one of the nicest dogs we have ever had. He loves to go off site and go for walks, hikes, and car rides. Pax has demonstrated that he will give chase to cats and should be placed in a home without them. Pax is a smart dog and learns quickly. He loves being with people and enjoys his time out of the kennel. We have fallen in love with Pax. He's just a great, solid and charming young dog. He's going to make for a great companion and will bring a lifetime of fun and love to the lucky person or family who adopts him. Get your application in for this wonderful doggo. Call 706-865-4135 for information on additional health services provided as part of the adoption fee. If interested in one of our puppies or dogs, please submit an application online or at the shelter. Applications can be submitted online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don't receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are being scheduled by appointment only. Please call our office, email us or complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can. Location: 4823 Helen Hwy., Sautee, GA 30571, Phone: 706-865-4135 Email: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net Our shelter in Sautee GA is located about 3 miles south of the alpine town of Helen in northeast GA.

Story
Meet Callie Beautiful, sweet, playful, and affectionate Callie. We rescued her from a high kill animal control. She was a young pup at the time and we thought for sure she’d be adopted given her sunny looks and bubbly personality. Sadly, she’s been overlooked again and again. Callie is five years old now. Her whole life has been spent behind bars and for absolutely nothing she did, except be born and abandoned. We love this girl beyond measure. She has been nothing but amazing since arriving those many years ago. The shelter confinement has taken its toll on her psyche though. She is still outgoing for those she knows. She loves her people, and has fun in the yard, but Callie is afraid of the outside world. She’s afraid of getting in a car. Perhaps because the last time that happened, her entire life changed. That said, we believe that once in a loving, stable and quiet home with a fenced yard and a bit of time to get used to her ‘freedom,’ Callie is going to be the most loyal and loving companion. She’s become a little shy with new people. Not aggressive, but reticent to get involved, knowing she most likely won’t see them again. After more than three years of not meeting a lot of new people, this is not unexpected. BUT, for those she loves and trusts, her bond is strong, and her attention fills up your whole heart. We’ve seen many of our longer-term residents, once under the gentle guidance and love of their family, blossom into confident dogs that learn to love car rides, go for walks, meet new people and even get to know other dogs, under supervision of course. Despite her reluctance to embrace the unknown, Callie is a hoot and keeps us laughing with her antics, her happy tail wag and laughing smile. She is incredibly friendly when feeling safe. She LOVES being with her people. She loves having her ears and belly scratched. She loves to run and romp in the yard. She can be a strong leash walker, but knowing that prevents surprises. Callie is affectionate and welcomes attention, a lot of it! Callie is a shelter favorite. She doesn’t tend to like other dogs (maybe it’s fear of the unknown) and chases cats. We think Callie will do best as an only pet. She is a fantastic girl with so much love and companionship to offer her family or person. Once the walls that Callie’s built up to protect herself come down, she’s all in. She is definitely a keeper for the person or family willing to give her a chance. Might that be you? If interested in Callie, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully received. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net. Story
Meet Starsky! Starsky is a silly, goofy 1 year old very handsome American Staffy/American Bulldog (best guess) who has a presence about him. His brindle coloring and personality will turn heads. Starsky came into the rescue with no skills and he quickly learned to sit - especially if there is food involved. He is definitely food motivated and teachable. Starsky weighs 60lbs and may get a little bigger. He has puppy energy so loves to run and play in his foster family's yard but has also decided he likes family sofa time too! He's going to make a terrific addition to a family. We suggest older kids in the house because Starsky doesn't realize he's not a lap dog and might inadvertently knock a small child down, His foster family is working on leash training and other manners but he wants to please. Starsky is current on vaccines, neutered, & microchipped. To meet or adopt Starsky, submit an adoption application at www.dirtroaddoggiesrescue.org ##1991458##

Are you looking for a fur baby that makes you feel like the most special person in the whole world? Well look no further than Mama Odie! This sweet butter ball is calm, quiet, and affectionate which makes her perfect for any living arrangement. Her ideal day would probably include sunbathing on a nice fluffy dog bed or cuddling on the couch and watching TV. When you meet this sweet girl, she will make you feel like the most special and appreciated person in the entire world!Additional Adoption Information:Dog Testing: We have not yet had a chance to see how she does with other dogs.Cat Testing: Based on our cat testing she would most likely do good in a home with cats.Kids: Has done well with kids in the past. Housetraining Comments: Appears to be fully housetrained.Special Needs: Unfortunately, Mama Odie came to the Forsyth County Pet Resource Center heartworm positive, but the good news is that the we will provide the necessary treatment for her with no additional cost to you! While Mama Odie is undergoing heartworm treatment she will be placed in our Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) program so that you can start bonding with your new pet and give them a calm place to get better! Heartworm treatment is very safe, and the success rate is high, and the Pet Resource Center prefers for dogs like Mama Odie to recover in a home with an adopter rather than in a shelter. If you are interested in learning more about Mama Odie and how the FTA process works, please stop by or call us at 678-965-7185!
