*Koba has a surgery on his *cherry* eyes scheduled for Wednesday 12/3/.25 and will not be available for meets on that day*Meet Koba, a delightfully silly bulldog who is ready to charm his way into the heart of a true bulldog-loving home. This squishy, happy boy thrives on human company and has never met a person he couldn’t win over with his goofy and confident, lovable personality.Koba came to the shelter due to ongoing allergies and skin sensitivities that may require seasonal medication or special food. He’s been a wonderful patient here, and anyone familiar with bulldogs will understand that extra care is all part of the package with these endearing pups.At WARL, Koba has enjoyed meeting new people and quickly became a staff favorite. He previously lived with a French bulldog and can be selective about his dog friends, so any canine companions should meet him first to ensure a good match.Koba is a blast to spend time with—funny, affectionate, and full of classic bulldog charm. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who will keep you smiling and appreciates a home that understands his breed’s unique needs, Koba may be the perfect buddy for you.Koba must meet household members and other dogs (if present) prior to adoption. If you are interested in adopting Koba, please come to the shelter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday between 12-4pm. Story
At first sight, you are sure to be smitten with this super sweet bulldog mix. His body is too cute for words! Virgil is about 5-years-old and weighs 53 pounds. He loves to get belly rubs, and show off his butt wiggle. He has been waiting awhile for his person and would love nothing better than to start his new life with you. Virgil has the traits of an American Bulldog, but somehow acts more like a water dog. He has an incredible love for water, especially when he can swim out to retrieve a thrown tennis ball or stick. It’s one game he never tires of. We like to say he’s a natural mer-man ‘wading’ for his forever family! Virgil is rather low maintenance. He is fulfilled by outdoor time, observing nature, and simply being with his people. He also enjoys walks and is good on the leash, though playing in water really makes his day. He has a funny way of turning meal time into fun time by batting around his Rolly Kong for kibble. Although he likes activity, he also has a lovely mellow side and enjoys quiet time. Among his many qualities, he’s also a dapper dude. Would you believe he loves being pampered and brushed? Virgil is very food-motivated and enjoys pleasing you. Since he is wary of strangers, his love of treats comes in very handy when introducing him to new people. If someone new approaches with a treat and lets him make the first move, voila! He’s a happy boy who will sit, lay down, or shake hands with you for more treats. Virgil has a sad background, but with the resilience of a champ he overcame abandonment. As a stray, he landed in a shelter with no ID tag, no microchip, very fearful, and left unclaimed. Because the staff gave him time and tender loving care, he started coming out of his shell. Soon after, Virgil attended a basic obedience class and then transitioned to a foster home where he is learning what a good, safe home is all about. Virgil now has a bouncy puppy-like strut and each day more and more of his personality comes through! He works with his foster mother daily. She reinforces all he learned in training and gives him new challenges as well. Virgil needs an adopter to continue providing direction and confidence-building activities. We know Virgil will thrive in a stable forever home with an experienced person or family who will help him recognize how special he really is. In this type of environment, he is such an easy dog. He just needs time to know things are A-OK so he won’t be fearful and anxious. With your gentle time and patience, you will earn his trust. Fortunately, Virgil provides all the companionship you’ll ever need. He doesn’t do well with other dogs, or cats, but he would be ok with older kids with dog experience. Since he alerts you to noise, he is not good for apartment or condo/townhouse living or tight neighborhoods. Ideal perks are a fenced yard and water access! Please complete an adoption application at https://www.brokentailrescue.org/adopt/ For serious inquiries, email maryloumaria@yahoo.com Thank you! Virgil is being fostered in Gloucester, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet Dallas! They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and Dallas’ love is no exception! He delivers BIG LOVE alllll the time! He loves to tuck into the tiniest ball to sleep like a baby deer and rolls around on his back making velociraptor sounds of alien joy at every possible opportunity. He has a hilarious curly-Q tail and a next level smile that perfectly frames his adorable underbite! But Dallas hasn’t always been so carefree and this 7-year old affectionate and distinguished gentleman has a story that has broken our hearts a thousand times over. Grab a cup of tea… Dallas started his life in 2018 in a relatively normal fashion…vet care and seemingly normal family living. Fast forward to a few years back when his human mom passed away. Once she was gone, things changed. He was kept by his human dad in a crate or outdoor kennel, and shocked with an e-collar, developing significant trauma and fear. His dad had a stroke at the beginning of the year, and Dallas went to live with a friend of a friend…a couple who took him in to try to find him a home. This couple reached out to us early in the summer and we had scheduled a time to meet Dallas, but he never made it to that meeting. He got loose and Missing Dogs Massachusetts was involved in quickly getting him home safely. Then, he was put in the impossible situation of getting loose…again, only 10 days later. This time, he ran far and wide for 42 days, from Waltham to Watertown to Cambridge. We committed to taking him, sight unseen, while he was still on the run, because we knew he was worth it. And after holding our breath for weeks, we were thrilled to get the call that he was safe! It was an honor to finally meet this sweet, sweet man, and we are in LOVE with his gentle nature. Dallas is as loveable as they come! He lost over 33 pounds while missing and is still on a medically supervised refeeding schedule to help him safely gain back weight. He has steadily gained and is looking terrific! He required an echocardiogram based on his initial veterinary consultation and bloodwork, which showed mild to moderate heart disease. The cardiologist hopes it is due to the grain free nutrition he was fed earlier in life, as noted on his previous vet records (public service announcement…DON’T feed grain-free foods to dogs unless instructed by a vet). If this is the case, with meds, his condition should stabilize or even get better over time. He has started heart meds and supplements and has no outward signs of distress. With repeat bloodwork, we determined all of his values have stabilized and are normal! He recently had surgery to remove 3 mast cell tumors and two tumors of an unknown origin, and we are thrilled that the mast cell tumors were low grade with clear margins and were excised completely and the unknown tumors were benign! Woo hoo! This cleared him for adoption and starting his life, and he deserves it! We always root for the underdog, and this special boy deserves everything life can offer him after his terrifying ordeal. He has been repeatedly failed by humans and needs a safe and loving place to land. Dallas is learning to trust and is gaining confidence every single day with the help of his canine (and feline) foster siblings. We have kept his world small to make him feel as safe as possible, and his tail is now wagging freely on a daily basis, especially in the company of other 4-legged friends. In a quiet home, Dallas is a good-natured and affectionate dog…a regular dog. But when venturing outside of what is consistent and predictable, the fear can be quite debilitating to him. Any adopter should know that it will take multiple meets to gain his trust but believe us…it is worth it!!!! Big D is house trained, crate trained, and a super easy man to care for. Due to his size, and lack of history, older or no kids would be best for this deserving soul. Dallas’ top 3 priorities: 1. A patient family who will go SLOW! Dallas was on the run in the greater Boston area for 42 days and trapped by Missing Dogs Massachusetts before entering our rescue. He needs time to take in new situations and will thrive with a small and consistent world. 2. A family who will love and cherish this sweet soul after all that he has been through to make him feel safe. A spot on the bed is a must! And a calm canine sibling would sweeten the pot.  3. A family dedicated to Dallas’ ongoing vet appointments as he catches up from years of neglect.October 28, 2025, 8:26 am

Story
This handsome boy has come a long way. Earlier this year, Gregory was found wandering as an emaciated stray in Connecticut. At first, we believed he was around 12 years old and possibly hospice due to his poor condition — he weighed just 52 pounds, was weak, and covered in sores and urine stains. It was clear he had suffered extreme neglect. After extensive veterinary care, a nutritious diet, and the freedom to just be a dog, Gregory has made an incredible transformation. He’s now a healthy 83 pounds and estimated to be closer to 7–8 years old. With the help of daily arthritis medication (carprofen), he’s rediscovered his inner puppy! When Gregory first arrived, he struggled a bit with marking, but that’s improved significantly since his neuter, and his house training continues to get better every day. Behaviorally, Gregory is a good boy, but he has never had any training and is now learning to be a dog after clear abuse and neglect. In our care, he has cohabited with numerous medium and small dogs, but he can be selective. While he has been completely fine with most, he has fixated on two of the pugs. Due to his size and playstyle, he may do best in a home without small dogs or cats. Proper introductions would be important as sometimes Gregory will say hello by humping. No one likes that. Gregory does enjoy being a couch potato, but he also loves to walk, play fetch, and do zoomies. He’s a big, strong boy who can be a little stubborn at times, so he’ll need someone comfortable handling his size on leash. He does struggle with frequent ear infections, which will likely be a lifelong, intermittent issue. If you’ve been looking for a big-headed, big-hearted right-hand companion, Gregory might be the pup for you. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines and has had full blood work. To apply to adopt Gregory, please fill out an application at vintagepetrescue.org/adopt

Story
Meet Blitz! Blitz is a 6-year-old, 55 pound working dog. He's smart, food driven, and loves playing fetch. He sleeps through the night in his crate, is house trained, loves learning new tricks, and can be good with other dogs if they allow him to calmly greet them. Blitz would do best in an adult only home, with an owner who is active. He loves going on walks, runs, hikes and car rides. He can be wary of new people, and will need someone to continue to train him on confidence building. Blitz will walk in a heel when requested, he is a quick learner, super food motivated, and will LOVE his owners immensely. Update from foster Mom: With his people, he is the BEST dog, and he's good with dogs if they aren't pushy. He's a quick learner, a cuddle bug, and house-trained. He LOVES hiking with me in the woods, has an amazing recall, and loves playing fetch. I believe he would be the best dog on a farm, where he isn't forced to interact with strangers. I strongly believe that when he is off leash, he will choose to avoid strangers as opposed to confronting them. So why has this amazing already trained pup been with us so long? He doesn't do too well with strangers. We've gotten people interested, but seemingly they seem to ignore his "wary of new people" bit in his bio, and those who have applied want a friendly dog who is ok with meeting everyone. Are you someone who will allow Blitz to become comfortable with strangers slowly? Maybe an active outdoorsy introvert? Or okay with leaving your pup at home while you go out to be extroverted? Blitz is AMAZING. He just needs someone who understands he isn't too fond of people until he feels safe with them. This means not allowing others to approach him on walks and when out and about. No trips to Home Depot or TJ Maxx for this guy. He only needs outings with his new parents! P.S. This means he will take time to warm up to you too! If you are interested in finding out more about Blitz, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO-A-67 Blitz is being fostered in Grafton. Story
Say hello to Alice, a 1-year-old Bull Terrier mix who’s 45 pounds of pure puppy joy and ears that may or may not double as satellite dishes. 📡 She’s sweet, she’s bouncy, and she’s got that classic “I’m ready to take on the world” puppy energy—and then some. Alice is the kind of pup who: 🌲 Hikes like a champ – Off-leash? No problem. She loves hitting the trails with her dog pals and frolicking like nature’s very own energizer bunny. 🧠 Eager to learn – She’s a smart cookie who wants to please her people (and maybe score a treat or three). 👧👦 Kid-approved – She’s sweet and snuggly with kids and would happily let them serve as cuddle buddies and snack distributors. 🎾 Play-mode always ON – She’s very puppyish and playful, which is adorable… unless you're an older dog trying to retire in peace. If your dog is more “nap enthusiast” than “tag champion,” they might find Alice’s energy a bit much. Alice is still learning the ropes and definitely needs training—she’s got all the potential and just needs someone patient to help shape it! Note: She had heart surgery and has recovered beautifully. She just needs an echocardiogram check in 18-24 months. If you’re ready to open your home (and heart) to this lovable whirlwind of joy, Alice is ready to bounce right in. If you are interested in finding out more about Alice, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Alice is currently in Worcester, MA.
