Story
Foster notes, 03/08/24Recommends Tank be the only pet in the houshold. Foster notes, 1/19/24:Tank has been wonderful to have. My grandmother and I took Tank up to the pet store to get some extra toys and treats for him. He loves to play with his toys and loves to sleep. He is a very loving and sweet dog. Tank is house trained and will let you know he needs to go out by barking and going to the door. He loves treats and enjoys Milkbone Dog Biscuits, Puperoni Sticks, and chew sticks.Enjoys meeting new people, is cuddly and affectionate, walks well on leash (No or low amount of pulling), chases cats/small animals, enjoys car rides, and is potty trained.Foster notes, 12/5/23:Tank is a very loving dog and enjoys being around me and my Grandmother. He enjoys taking over the couch so I might have to get his permission to sit on it! LOL He likes to be the center of attention and loves to be petted and have his rear scratched. Most of the time, he loves to sleep as long as someone is with him. Tank has had one accident but is housetrained. Dog Day Out notes, 11/20/23:I took Tank to get a delicious pup cup at Dunkin Donuts and I took him to Hawfields Park where we walked and played with his ball. He is good with kids we met, enjoyed meeting new people, and he`s loving, affectionate, and good on leash.Dog Day Out notes, 10/2/23:Tank and I roamed around campus for a few hours. We layed out in the sun and in the grass, and met plenty of new friends. We walked around campus and just got to explore and also cuddle on plenty of benches! He enjoyed meeting new people, is loving and affectionate, and is good on leash but pulls a little. Tank didn`t go directly up to other animals, but was intrigued from far away. He never once barked at other animals, just looked at them. Tank was such a sweet boy, he was playful for small amounts of time but also calmed down when needed. He is incredibly sweet, he just wanted to hug and cuddle with every person he saw but never jumped or barked. He is the sweetest boy ever! Story
Age: 6 years old (approx) Weight: 50 pounds Adoption Fee: $175 (includes microchip, neuter surgery and vaccinations) Papa is a very friendly medium-sized dog who is sweet and people-oriented. He knows how to SIT, lay down, and SHAKE hands and will even do this with either paw! He is quite playful but also a well-behaved adult dog. He likes car rides and going for puppacinos and frozen yogurt! He loves all people and loves to make new friends! We have also discovered he seems to enjoy wearing hats and sweaters, and he's so photogenic that you cannot help but dress him up for pictures! He's our resident Dog Model who will wear just about anything and has fun too. Got Netflix? He'll binge-watch whatever you're watching with you (we can't guarantee he'll stay awake though!) We have also found that Papa also really likes race tracks! He has been to Virginia International Raceway THREE times and loves all the people and noise.  His ideal home would have no other dogs (cats who know dogs are OK) and no small children/toddlers (he jumps a little bit when he's excited and could knock a little child over without meaning harm). He likes to run around with balls so a fenced yard is required. **************************************************************************** Papa is available for adoption through Spirit Canine Rescue. To adopt Papa, please visit our website http://www.spiritcaninerescue.org/adopt.html for more information and to complete an application. A home visit will be required prior to adoption. We request that all adopters be within reasonable traveling distance to Burlington NC.   * Our only obligation is to the dogs in our program and we reserve the right to determine whether a particular dog and the adopter are the right fit. Remember, just because a dog "looks" like the one you want, that does not necessarily mean that the dog will "behave" like the one you want! Note: We do not adopt out of state!  We do not adopt dogs into homes with invisible /underground fencing! February 25, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
We adopted Bluey from the shelter in hopes to giving him a loving home. He is a very energetic and loving boy who needs much attention and space to run that our home does not allow. With my busy schedule I feel like he is being neglected in the quality time and exercise he needs and deserves. Prefer the adopter have a yard for him to run and be familiar with the hyperactivity of his breed. If you are looking for a lazy lapdog Bluey isn’t it but if you are looking for someone to keep you busy and on your toes he is your man.

Story
Lady Love recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what her DDO buddy had to say! "Miss Lady Love is a chill gal who just wants to snuggle on the couch and take long naps. She's a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. We went for a walk in the park and she was more interested in meeting people and dogs than the actual walk. She's a pro at walking on leash, but sometimes she just stops moving because she's fairly adamant about her breaks. She needed lots of breaks to lay in the soft grass and afterward, she needed a bath to smell fresh again. She was very quiet and easy to crate, and rides great in the car, even putting her front half in for you. She enjoyed meeting people at the event, but the heat was too much for her and she decided she was small enough to be carried. Overall, Miss Lady Love is a funny, chill gal who just wants to hang out and get belly rubs." As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC    FOSTER DOG INFORMATION: Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog. He was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023 and is currently being fostered for Best Friend Pet Adoption.  Pluto is very sweet, healthy, and happy. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and the vet estimates his age as 6 years old. Pluto is great with all the people and dogs he has met. He especially likes people and loves cuddles and pets.  He plays well with the fosters two dogs but can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He will sit by the door if he wants to go out. He knows to use the bathroom in the grass in the yard or in the grass while on walks.  Pluto seems to have been well cared for previously. He spends the day lounging on the couch, playing with his toys, and awaiting more belly rubs. Pluto is quiet. He will occasionally bark briefly when we get a package at the front door (but only if the package is set against the door) otherwise he does not make a sound. He will whine/bark briefly if left out in the yard longer than it takes him to use the bathroom.  He prefers leashed bathroom breaks so no fenced yard is needed.  He does pull some while walking on a leash. Mainly pulls towards houses (I think because he prefers being inside). We are working on improving his leash skills.   We have introduced Pluto to some kids and he did well.  He was on a leash and did very well. He does not seem to mind kids, but gives more attention to adults. He was fine with children running up to him, petting him, and grabbing at his face and ears.  He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but seems to have a prey drive so he would do best in a home without cats.  We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.  Pluto is crate trained; however, he does not need a crate.  He prefers to be out of his crate.  He is well mannered so we keep him out all day even when we are not home. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with.  When we work away from home, he does great. We have a camera to check up on him. He sleeps most of the day and occasionally plays with my other dogs or with a toy.  We feel he could be left home alone or with another dog.  At night Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep on the bed with us. Due to his size and snoring, he typically sleeps on the couch in the living room. Pluto is very friendly and well trained. He is quiet, gentle, and spends most of the day sleeping. He is great during the day while we are at work and happy when we return. He is always ready to snuggle up next to you on the couch and receive pets. He sleeps through the night and rarely makes noise during the day. He gets along great with my dogs and we would keep him in heartbeat if we did not already have two dogs.     EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? Story
Trace was found 9/2/23. She had a collar on but we couldn’t find her owner. She is a very sweet, loving, and a gentle girl. She loves affection and being close to you. She seemed to need some help so we took her in. We have animals of our own and are at our limit with pets at our rental so we have been fostering her. She has been to the vet and is in excellent health. She is a dog that will most definitely bring a smile with her playful manners. We hope to find her a great happy home!

Story
Foster notes, 12/4/23:Pie is an extremely affectionate dog that has lived most of his life in the shelter. He would benefit from some training as he can be hyper but this is at no fault of his own. Having another playmate helps with his energy. Because Pie hasn’t had a lot of interactions with other dogs and been able to be a pup himself, all he wants to do is play while the other dogs are wanting to rest. With positive redirection Pie will calm down and take a rest himself. Pie gets really excited and will try to grab blankets, toys, whatever may be around so I would recommend lots of variety of toys for him. He absolutely loves playing fetch and could play this for hours if you allowed it. Pie is such an amazing dog that has been looked over time and time again. All he wants is love, affection and attention. He will make an amazing partner in any adventure his family goes on. He loves to ride in cars and when we take him out, he goes to the car wanting to get in- it’s the absolute cutest thing. Pie loves to get belly rubs and will reward you with all of the kisses in the world. He is such a good boy that is so deserving of a forever home. Pie is house and crate trained, and lets you know when he needs to go potty. He is walked on a leash to go outside and is starting to do much better on leash. There are times when Pie will take charge and wants to walk himself by taking the leash in his mouth and starts walking in the direction he would like to go. I crate Pie when I leave the house and he’s done absolutely amazing. Pie knows sit and that is about it. We are working on other commands. I would recommend not playing tug of war with him and just tell him to “drop” the toy and he will so you can then throw it for him to go and fetch. This is a positive way to play with Pie that does not get him too overstimulated and excited. Pie does amazing with my 2 year old and my other dogs. I would recommend that Pie go to a home with at least one other dog so he can have someone to play with as playing as become his absolute favorite thing to do. I also have cats in the house and Pie is not bothered at all with them and does not engage with them at all, he is just uninterested in cats. Like every dog, Pie just needs a family willing to show him patience and love and who will work with him. Sound like you? Story
Fun, playful, clownish, and smart--the words that seem to describe Moose. This super cute fella was picked up by the Burlington Police Department a few weeks ago and brought to BAS. He`s definitely not a criminal and did nothing wrong, he was just a lost pup who didn`t find his way back home. Moose is at least 5 years old and knows some basic commands. He has a happy and friendly personality, and he`s ready to bring much laughter, happiness, and love to a lucky person or family`s life. Moose did test positive for heartworm but we will be taking care of the treatment, so no worries! Moose is hoping to meet you today, so come visit us soon!Dog Day Out, 4/5/24:We started the day with some Starbucks--Moose loved his pup cup. Then we went to Cedarock Park and went on the Waterfall Trail and the Green Trail they have. Then we went to McDonald’s where he enjoyed some fries. Moose was fantastic, didn’t bark, didn’t pull--very gentle. On our hike we bumped into a couple of dogs and he wanted nothing to do with them. I have a 7 month old; she wasn’t with us the whole time but when she was, he paid little attention to her. He also knows tricks: sit and shake with both paws--very clever. If I could, I’d adopt this lovely guy in a heart beat.
