Story
Age: 6 years old (approx) Weight: 50 pounds Adoption Fee: $175 (includes microchip, neuter surgery and vaccinations) Papa is a very friendly medium-sized dog who is sweet and people-oriented. He knows how to SIT, lay down, and SHAKE hands and will even do this with either paw! He is quite playful but also a well-behaved adult dog. He likes car rides and going for puppacinos and frozen yogurt! He loves all people and loves to make new friends! We have also discovered he seems to enjoy wearing hats and sweaters, and he's so photogenic that you cannot help but dress him up for pictures! He's our resident Dog Model who will wear just about anything and has fun too. Got Netflix? He'll binge-watch whatever you're watching with you (we can't guarantee he'll stay awake though!) We have also found that Papa also really likes race tracks! He has been to Virginia International Raceway THREE times and loves all the people and noise.  His ideal home would have no other dogs (cats who know dogs are OK) and no small children/toddlers (he jumps a little bit when he's excited and could knock a little child over without meaning harm). He likes to run around with balls so a fenced yard is required. **************************************************************************** Papa is available for adoption through Spirit Canine Rescue. To adopt Papa, please visit our website http://www.spiritcaninerescue.org/adopt.html for more information and to complete an application. A home visit will be required prior to adoption. We request that all adopters be within reasonable traveling distance to Burlington NC.   * Our only obligation is to the dogs in our program and we reserve the right to determine whether a particular dog and the adopter are the right fit. Remember, just because a dog "looks" like the one you want, that does not necessarily mean that the dog will "behave" like the one you want! Note: We do not adopt out of state!  We do not adopt dogs into homes with invisible /underground fencing! February 25, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
Franklin is a high-energy, 13-month-old bully mix currently looking for his forever home. He would thrive in a busy, active household. Franklin especially enjoys his time at "puppy camp" where he socializes with many people and has playtime with other high-energy dogs. He likes taking long walks and enjoys exploring new places. He requires a physically strong owner who can confidently assume the leadership role, which will allow Franklin to relax and avoid feeling the need to be the alpha in his new environment. In his previous home, Franklin had a hard time settling down in the evenings and is currently taking medication for anxiety. Preference will go to potential owners who have experience with high-energy bully breeds and a fenced backyard or space where he can play outside off leash. Two references required. Neutered and fully up to date on vaccinations. House-trained. Uses crate when home alone.

Story
Snookie is a sweet rescue pup who’s almost 2 years old. I’ve been fostering her for a couple of months, and she has come such a long way. As a puppy, she was left alone and uncared for, which made her reactive in new environments. Despite that, she is incredibly loving—she wants to cuddle, be close to you, and feel safe. She walks well on a leash but can get scared when people or dogs pass by. I’ve been working on redirecting her, and she’s slowly improving. Snookie also lives with two small French Bulldogs and does great with them. She even interacts calmly with an outside kitty. Her house training has improved so much. When she first arrived, she had many accidents, but now she has had 0 accidents indoors! Snookie needs a home with someone patient who’s willing to continue her training.

Story
🐾 Meet Henry Marcel — aka Hank! 🐶 Rescued from a busy intersection, Hank is a lovable, goofy sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This young pup is friendly, sociable, and very food-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. Since joining IAR, Hank has been working hard on crate training and basic commands—and he's doing great! He’s got a clumsy charm that’ll keep you laughing, and he starts each day with his favorite ritual: a good morning walk to stretch those long legs and burn off his boundless energy. Hank’s hobbies include: 🦴 Chewing water buffalo horns 🎾 Playing with Kong-style toys 🐿️ Patrolling the yard for squirrels with his furry foster brother (a 6-year-old male) 🌞 Sunbathing in his favorite warm spot Hank is current on vaccinations and preventatives, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative — ready to step right into your life. He would thrive in a home that can match his energy and continue helping him learn the ropes. If you're looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who brings joy, laughter, and a bit of goofiness—Hank is your guy!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC        Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog. He is sweet, happy, and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is around 10 years old.    Pluto is great with people (including kids) and most dogs. His favorite things include pets, cuddles, naps, and chew toys. He keeps himself entertained but will play fetch and enjoys walks and road trips.    Pluto plays well with our other dogs, however, we have noticed that he can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He knows basic commands like come, sit, drop, paw, etc. He is quiet and will only briefly bark when we have a package or visitor. He will use the bathroom in a fenced yard or on walks. He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but was very interested. He might tolerate cats as he did learn to ignore our chickens. We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.    Pluto is crate trained; however, he is not crated at his foster home. He is well mannered so he is allowed unsupervised access to most of the house. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with. Rarely will he chew up things he is not supposed to (he likes to tear up cardboard boxes). He is used to us being gone during the day for work and seems to spend most of the day sleeping or playing with our other dog.   As he ages, his back legs are getting weaker. He has learned how to swim, which has helped strengthen his muscles. He loves to swim and now gets overly excited when we visit the pool. Pluto would need an owner who is experienced in caring for an older, larger dog and give him the patience he needs. He requires extra time to get up and moving and assistance getting into vehicles.    At night, Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep with us but snores way too loud. Pluto is a wonderful dog who is gentle, and friendly. He is always ready for attention, but will keep himself busy chewing on toys or napping if you are busy. He will make a great family pet. Could you consider giving him the loving home he deserves?    EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants should ideally live no further than one hour from Cary NC.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize adoptions.  For the perfect home for Pluto, we will considered approved applicants who live a bit further away from the Triangle area of NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO?
