It was a chilly morning when Marley was found tied to the gate with a frayed piece of rope, her eyes filled with confusion and fear. As Marley sat huddled against the cold metal, her heart heavy with abandonment, she couldn't help but wonder what she had done wrong. Was she not good enough? Did she not deserve love and companionship like every other dog? Sadly, we will never know the circumstances for why Marley was abandoned the way she was. What we do know is that she was beloved to someone out there recently. The confusion she displays in her current situation proves to us that she is used to a more comfortable and happy lifestyle. She spends her days in our cat laundry room and is quick with a boisterous greeting for anyone who comes in. She absolutely loves affection from people and will just melt in your lap. Marley dreams of a life filled with warmth and love, where she can run and feel the sun on her fur. Despite the pain of being abandoned, Marley has hope in her heart that there is someone who will see her for the loyal companion, faithful friend, and gentle soul she is and provide her with the love she deserves.

If you`d like a dog with an extra large side of derp, then we have just the pup for you.... Riley! He is so endearingly awkward and wiggly and his antics are guaranteed to make you laugh! At just under 2 years old, Riley is a youngin who loves all the things: his friends, his snacks, and his walkies. Riley is always happy to show off a few tricks he has up his sleeve: sit, stay, down and shake. And oh, you have some errands to run? Perfect because Riley loves riding in the car with all of his precious little heart (but of course please don`t leave any pet in the car when the weather is warm)!Riley has shown curious interest in other dogs but he has not been officially evaluated yet. If you have a playful resident dog, we can help get a meet & greet scheduled at the shelter with a member of the Behavior Team.Riley`s notes indicate that he has some resource guarding tendencies. While we have not observed this at the shelter, there is a possibility that this behavior could show itself in a home. He also cannot have certain toys, like tennis balls, because he will try to ingest them. While these are typically easily managed behaviors, Riley cannot go to a home with small children in order to keep everyone safe and happy.An ideal adopter for Riley will take him on walks to exercise his body as well as do some puzzle & focus games to exercise his mind! He will go home with the support of the Orange Dot Crew (a volunteer advocacy group at the shelter), a crate & goody bag, and free training assistance from Friends of AAC’s Behavior Assistance Program.

So, I am Kermit the Dog, and I am pleased to make your acquaintance.I was found in a vacant lot outside of Austin by a kind stranger. I could not lift myself, could not walk, was nothing more than a big, ponderously lopsided head atop a skeleton with drum taught skin. The kind fellow took me to Austin Animal Center, where I was bathed and fed, where I met a foster family that were volunteering that day, a foster family who had spent ten minutes that morning in their automobile promising one another that they would not go home with another dog.I am Kermit the rosy-minded promise breaker, the one that makes a beautiful liar of you. On the way to their home I slept with my head on her lap as he drove me to meet my foster brothers and sister. I am Kermit the Picasso.My snout is somewhere between Pyrenees and Pug, I have one half of an ear on the right side of my head, a broken and drooping ear on the left side, and my tail is bent in so many places that when it wags (as it does often, because I am Kermit the Happy) it looks like a question mark fluttering in the wind.I am Kermit the Indefatigable. I try not to think of my life before this, but at some point I was discarded.Which makes me Kermit, the Most Magnificent Trash. I am Kermit the Curious. Where are you going? the bathroom? I will lie by your feet. The bedroom? I will lay my body across your head. Have I also mentioned that I am Kermit the Flatulent? Funny noises come from my body, and will happily share them with you. Are you going outside into the world? I will go with you and we can both bark at the dogs that we do not know and lovingly nuzzle the ones that we do know. Are you at your desk? If there was ever a comedian in dog form, Fat Boy would be it! His exuberant, bouncy, happy personality and meaty, jowly face will keep you giggling and smiling all day long. Every time his volunteer friends get Fat Boy out of his kennel for a walk or an outing, he is just SO excited and thrilled to be out and about. All of his campus outings include a break in one of the Real Life Rooms, rooms set up like tiny homes with air conditioning and comforts of a real living space, and Fat Boy absolutely loves his breaks there! He seems to know exactly what to do indoors, and often will immediately lay down and request pets.He does seem to have something wonky going on with his legs/back hips, but this doesn’t slow him down one bit! Recently, two of Fat Boys volunteer friends took him on a fun outing to the creek and he had a chance to show off his swimming skills! He fetched toys and rocks in the water like it was his duty, and he truly had just the absolute best day. Fat Boy is one of those dogs who is just happy to be alive and is just so incredulous and amazed with every new thing. You just cannot help but smile and be amazed at the world too!Fat Boy is house trained, walks well on a leash outside of shelter grounds, and loves car rides and adventures as much as he does lounging around indoors while you watch TV. He is also a volunteer and staff favorite, and he comes with the full support of his best friends at Orange Dot Crew!

Cheddar`s foster family reports:Cheddar`s name precedes him! He is a triple threat - good looks, sweet personality, and silly cheesy fun. All that`s missing is a human to be the love of his life forever!Watching the world through Cheddar`s eyes has been such a joy. Despite a cruel start to life, Cheddar remains easygoing and happy to greet each day. He absolutely loves to be outside almost as much as he loves to cuddle up on the couch. He loves walks and reporting for squirrel control in the yard. He is doing great with leash skills but will still pull to say hi to a passing dog or new friend. He is very strong naturally and learning patience when exciting things happen. Sharing a foster home with 2 other dogs has been a breeze! Neither are very playful and Cheddie is great at respecting their space but he loves to cuddle and be around them. Cheddar has ZERO stranger danger and is friendly with all who visit our home. He LOVES toys and will self-entertain with a chew toy for hours. He takes treats so very gently but does not love his front paws touched - they`re very ticklish! Currently, Cheddar is working hard to understand how the heck balls and fetch work - so far he is a bit of a ball hog, running around with the ball in his mouth with pride. But give this smart boy some time and he will figure it out! He already has the enthusiasm down. Cheddar is also the perfect house guest as long as you don`t mind a shadow! At 2 years old, Cheddar still has some puppy in him and will want to stay so close by you, he might bump into you! But he`s as gentle as can be. His favorite area of the house is wherever you are. As soon as you sit or lay down, he would love to be as close as possible. Ideally pressed up against you while you enjoy a show ?¨ To top it off, Cheddar is potty trained and crate trained! He has never had an accident in his crate when left alone.Cheddie will make the right person so incredibly happy. You will be hard pressed to find a more handsome or more loyal boy to share your life and time with.
