Story
Jake is a real love. He is truly a companion dog. He just loves people. In fact, his favorite is to sit in the kitchen while you cook. Everything is better when Jake's around. He was rescued from California and has rebounded magnificently. He gets along with all the other dogs at the rescue and loves horses. He follows them around the ranch just like the old Texas cowboys used to do. He is current on all his vaccinations and heartworm negative. He is a very gentle dog and great on the leash. Nature trail anyone? Give us a buzz and let us introduce you to our sweet boy, Jake.May 23, 2024, 3:59 pm

Story
Chaney is a large, intimidating looking dog, but in reality is a very sweet, if not curious, old man. He originally belonged to my Uncle, but he is out of the picture now, and sadly his current caretaker is being forced out of his home, and has no idea where he is going, so Chaney needs a new home. Sadly no one in our family is willing to take him, and we have no friends that we can trust to do so. He is 12 years old, and seems to have arthritis in his rear, he loves being massaged there. He absolutely loves attention and being scratched and pet. It is a hard decision, but we are looking for someone to give him a good finale to his life, as he is getting to end of it.

Story
Meet Puffy: Professional Napper, Aspiring Zoo Keeper, and Certified Good Boy Ladies and gentlemen, roll out the red carpet because Puffy is here to steal your sofa—and your heart. This handsome, big ol’ marshmallow of an American Bulldog comes equipped with stunning looks (seriously, models are jealous) and a nap schedule tighter than a CEO’s calendar. Puffy’s daily agenda? Sleep while you “work” (he knows you're watching TikToks). Grace you with his presence during TV time. Briefly pounce on his beloved blue jolly ball in the yard—just enough to remind you he could be an athlete. Return to the couch for another nap. Repeat as needed. But Puffy is more than just a handsome face and a champion napper. This guy is basically Dr. Doolittle—he’s lived with cats, parrots, and even giant tortoises. He’s ready to run your household like a gentle, slightly wobbly zookeeper. Speaking of wobbly, Puffy has a neurological condition that makes him a little unsteady on his paws, so he’s looking for a calm, quiet home where he can stay safe on the first floor (stairs are for peasants anyway). Training? Puffy’s got that down. He knows "sit," "down," and "place," and will do anything for praise. Seriously—call him a good boy and he’ll move mountains for you (or, at least, move slightly faster toward his next nap). Treats also work wonders, because Puffy knows snacks are life. Ready to upgrade your life with Puffy, the world’s handsomest, snooziest and most lovable sidekick? Follow his adventures on Instagram at @omg_its_puffy to see how ridiculously adorable he is. Puffy’s just looking for a comfy couch, a quiet home, and someone to call him a good boy forever. Will it be you?

Story
I’ve had the opportunity to receive training beyond the APA! walls and am currently living in the Houston area. I like to think of it as “studying abroad!” I’ve received some one-on-one attention from my trainer friend at Gray Wolf Canine Rehabilitation who has helped me further work through some challenges. (https://www.austinpetsalive.org/blog/thinking-outside-the-shelter-walls-to-support-dogs-in-need). Now with some extra coursework, I’m ready to graduate out of the sheltering system and into an adoptive home! And as soon as I find a home, my spot at Gray Wolf gives another dog just like me a chance to broaden their horizons! What I've worked on at GWCR: I grew up in a loving home with a family surrounding me! Through no fault of my own, I landed in the shelter system, and became stuck. Over the last 3 years in the shelter, I developed separation anxiety when left alone and struggled to connect with the dog friends I used to play with. During my time at GWCR, I've become accustomed to spending time in the crate and developed a routine to manage my anxiety, practiced introductions to new dogs, and figured out my favorite enrichments and activities to keep me nurtured. All I need now is a caring home to take me in and keep me out of the shelter system forever! I would prefer a lower traffic home, but can be flexible with more management. I would enjoy living with the right dog friend, provided we get to meet first!

Story
Meet Shadow – Your Future BFF! Shadow is the goodest girl and all she wants is to be your best friend forever. This super-friendly, goofy, and affectionate girl has adapted wonderfully to her new surroundings and is ready to bring her joyful energy to her forever home. Shadow is a loyal sidekick who follows you around the house, eager to help with everything… well, except when she’s napping! She loves to play, and her favorite games are endlessly entertaining: hide-and-seek around the kitchen island, “jump around to get attention while laundry is happening,” and her classic backyard zoomies—“you’ll never catch me!” She’s also part-time couch potato who loves soaking up the sun in the yard or relaxing while watching TV. Shadow is house trained, trustworthy when left alone, and knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come. She’s highly motivated by treats and cheese, loves to play, but also enjoys her part-time couch potato moments. She has a loving, loyal personality and is always ready to be by your side. Shadow would thrive as the only dog in a home with a fenced-in yard, where she can play, relax, and be your constant companion. She’s perfect for anyone looking for a loving, playful, and devoted best friend who will fill their days with joy, laughter, and love. Inquire about adopting her today! Story
Sitter needed: 01/19/26 - 02/03/26 Tenzy is a calm, sweet boy that still has a little puppy energy in him, loves the occasional cuddle but also knows how to be independent. He loves frozen broccoli, strawberries and the occasional apple for treats. Call him a health nut if you will! He loves his sleep, sleeping in in the mornings and off to bed early in the evenings. His morning consists of a quick walk, breakfast then he's content with laying next to you and having a morning nap. He's potty trained and is currently good at free roaming the house without issue. He's good on walks and on a leash but long walks are not his thing; nap is life remember? Tenzy is quickly learning the basic commands and is one smart cookie. He is very people friendly and a total snuggle bug, but due to his current medical condition cannot be around other animals until cleared by the vet. Don't let that scare you though without reaching out to learn more about his condition; APA would be more than happy to tell you about this adorable house hippo and what makes him so incredibly special!
