Story
Even though Odie was abandoned by his previous family, he still loves people.  He gets along with other dogs and children.  He is high energy and hasn't learned to meet other dogs.  He can be a bit intimidating to other dogs.  His foster brother is a small 13 yr old rat terrier and Odie loves to sleep with him.  It takes a slow introduction for him to settle down.   If you want a hiking or camping buddy, Odie is your guy.  Playing fetch and tug are also favorite things that he likes.  He would love a family who would treat him like a family member.  .  He has already had his dental and is ready to start his new life as a family member.  If you are interested, please contact Rainbow Rescue at 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.comNovember 3, 2024, 9:38 am

BULLDOG FANATICS - HERE YOU GO!   BIG HEAVY - 2 years old, 100 pounds, good with some dogs & kids, house trained.  Big Heavy was surrendered when his owners were moving and couldn't take him.  He is known to be friendly and playful with kids over 6 years old.   He has not been around other dogs as we are told they can make him nervous.  Please bring in any resident dog and let's have a meet and greet! He might be ok with a calm and more respectful dog. In any case, please be ready to supervise.   Big Heavy is said to be kind, loving, and playful.   He is also smart, active, and loves to go on walks. He is used to going on 4 walks a day believe it or not! *His size does not really show this though. LOL Yep, he is a big boy. Big Heavy was able to free roam in his previous home with no issues sleeping in his dog bed at night.  He is hanging in a back kennel for now so just come in and ask to meet him!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 10, 2025, 7:35 am

Story
This lovely & spunky little lady here is Maeve! Maeve is a Bulldog & she unfortunately has been diagnosed with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Disease associated with being a flat-faced breed. Due to the risk of the inflammation of her airway worsening(especially with stress, heat, etc.), any potential adopters will be required to have experience with brachycephalic breeds! While Maeve is quite food motivated(she loves her food!), she does have a history of GI issues. Being mindful of treats, not changing food too quickly or too often, reinforcing potty training & crate training are all going to be very important habits to ensure her successful transition to a home setting! Lastly, due to her spinal structure anyone interested in adopting would need to be ready for a potential for joint supplements sometime in her future to keep her mobility healthy & pain free! If you have any questions about Maeve or anything listed above, or if you would like to visit this sweet, lovely, & playful little lady here then our amazing Kennel Staff would be happy to assist!

TITAN - 1-5 years old, 50 pounds, nervous Short, stout and round...our new VBACAC resident TITAN has found himself behind shelter bars due to no fault of his own and he is not happy about it. He's nervous, sits back far in his kennel just looking around. He did, however, approach the door when I opened it and allowed me to leash him and walk him out. When we got to the yard, I let him go. He investigated, took everything in and proceeded to run the perimeter as if looking for a way out. Titan is super cute with his bulldog squishy face, short legs and half a tail. Yep, that's half a tail. Just look for yourself! He has dark black fur with a thick line of white on his chest. Bulldogs have their own personality, they can literally be bullies! LOL Please do some research on the breed and then determine if this breed fits with your lifestyle. Given time and attention, Titan will surely come out of his shell so come on out to meet him! He is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him, please just ask.   Titan was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for. He is a handsome American bulldog mix and is very worried here in the shelter. The previous owner stated he doesn't like mowers or vacuums (finds them scary!) He has been known to not get along well with other dogs and chases small animals so may do best as the only pet in the home. He has also exhibited some guarding tendencies with his favorite toys so an adult-only home would likely suit him best.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 29, 2025, 10:26 am

Story
BLUEBERRY - 4 years old, 26 pounds BLUEBERRY arrived at VBACAC as a stray. Her over-the-top cuteness and personality got her adopted quickly but now she's back! She is a feisty gal who loves loves loves attention. Blueberry loves being outside and this rambunctious gal loves being around her people. Blueberry is looking for a family ready, willing and able to train her out of her puppy-like behaviors. She can and has slipped her collar and leash so are you ready to make sure that her collar is on good and she's not able to get out of it again? Blueberry will keep you on your toes. Blueberry needs multiple walks but still has accidents in the house. She might (not intentionally) chew on furniture or destroy things in the house. We believe this behavior is related to her high energy. She's an active and silly girl who needs a lot of exercise and playtime. Blueberry might be nervous when riding in a car, too. We are recommending an adult-only home or a home with older kids, as she has shown signs of resource guarding. If you have another dog, you can bring them in to meet. Stop by any day between 12-5 to learn more!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 30, 2025, 5:21 pm

Story
We purchased Zoe from a breeder as a puppy from sugar Plum bulldogs. We purchased her during Covid. She’s five years old. The puppy as a puppy, we were not able to socialize her during Covid so she’s not very friendly to a lot of people. But she’s never bitten anyone, but she can be aggressive. Other than that, she’s pretty mellow she loves to eat and she loves to sleep. She loves car rides. She loves her big fluffy pillow. She loves laying in the sun outside. She loves snacks. All of her records are up-to-date. We have all of her documents. We’re looking for a loving home experience with an experienced dog owner that can work with her and be patient with her. I love her.

Story
A Kilo of love is worth a lifetime of happiness!I instantly fell in love with Kilo as soon as he was dropped off as an owner surrender. His medical needs at the time were more than the young couple could handle. They loved him but living on base, with a limited income, prevented Kilo from getting on the road to wellness. Their goodbye was sad.But Kilo came into our Cafe area and assessed the whole area. He then went into the Cafe, found this tiny bed that was meant for our small dogs, dragged it outside and tried to fit his big body into that tiny bed. His back legs stretched out as far as they could and he just looked like he was ready to sit and wait for his new family to come find him.We normally wait a few days before taking new dogs to the vet, but Kilo needed to be seen sooner rather than later. He got medication for his skin issues and is already feeling so much better. By the end of the week, he will be neutered and his ears will have been treated as well. Life is definitely looking up for Kilo. The one thing we know for certain is that wherever Kilo goes, people adore him. He is so chill and just happy to be around people. He loves to ride in the car and when it's time to get out, he doesn't step down and then out, he just jumps straight out, like Superman taking off, and lands on all four paws.Kilo is a two-year-old English Bulldog. He needs to gain a few pounds, which is our specialty, and his skin issues are already improving. He is on a special diet for his skin and we are thrilled that he enjoys it.Kilo makes you slow down and enjoy each moment - he is cool like that. I wonder if anything has ever really bothered him, aside from saying goodbye to his people. He just seems grateful for your time and happy for his next adventure. Please come meet Kilo and see what contentment looks like. He is a very special boy and we can't wait for him to begin his new chapter because we know love and light will follow him wherever he goes!Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. Open every day between 9AM and noon.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
