Story
Sweet Ben is ready to find his family!Ben was found as a stray in Port Alberni and went unclaimed, so his past is a mystery-but his future is full of potential! This energetic boy loves to play, especially a good game of tug-of-war. Sometimes, he gets a little too excited and might tug on your sleeve instead of the toy. He can also get jumpy and mouthy when overstimulated, so we recommend a home without young children.Ben is looking for an active family willing to help him with some basic training. He's still learning how to walk politely on a leash and get comfortable inside buildings, but with patience and consistency, he'll thrive. While he adores spending time with his people-especially cuddling on the couch-he's also content entertaining himself with a stuffed Kong when left alone. A fenced yard where he can zoom around in a game of "catch me if you can" would be a dream come true for this happy, playful pup!If you're ready to give Ben the love, structure, and adventure he deserves, he's waiting to meet you! Here are some ways to find out how: 1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or 2.) Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs. Story
**Currently fostered in Houston Texas but is available for out of state adoption via rescue transportation. Virtual meet and greet offered prior to adoption commitment** Kyra is a happy go lucky pup who found herself abandoned on the streets. She was emaciated, had poor skin and just full of worms. Thankfully an amazing woman found her and took her in. She got her clean, well fed, and fully vetted. Now, Kyra is ready to start the next chapter in her adventure! Kyra is just over 2 years old, and is a total hambone of a dog. We believe she is some kind of pitbull, retriever, hound mix. Basically what we call, a Texas Street Special! Whatever her breed, she is all adventure pup and very eager for life. Kyra loves people, I don't think she could ever meet a stranger. She's extremely loving, and enjoys cuddles on the couch, giving kisses, and looking cute for treats! We think she would even do wonderfully with children. Kyra has done wonderful with other dogs as well. She is fantastic at her doggie daycare, does well at dog parks, and loves to play. She doesn't mind the cats, She does chase them at times when she just wants to play. Kyra is not an aggressive dog, but she can lack the meaning of personal space and some of the cats we've introduced her to have not taken kindly to that. We think she could do well in just about any home, however, she would prefer to have regular play mates that can keep up with her be it siblings or play mates from friends, neighbors or daycare environment. She just wants to enjoy life with someone! Kyra does very well with training, mostly due to the fact that she's so smart. She learns quickly, and at times, can be TOO smart. Like how she knows how to push the door open if it's not latched properly. She knows her basics such as sit, kennel, stay. Her only need for training is working on her impulse control. She is fully crate trained, and is doing fantastic with her leash training. She is housebroken, but being such a big pup still, we suggest using a kennel until fully acclimated. Though she quite enjoys cuddling in the bed or couch. Kyra is fully vetted, meaning she is current on all vaccinations and preventions. She is spayed as well as microchipped too. For more information on how to adopt Kyra, contact us at MokasMission@Gmail.com.

Story
Meet Mick, a smart, affectionate dog looking for a loving home where he can be the center of attention. He would thrive as the only pet in the household, though he gets along well with dogs outside of the home. Mick has some separation anxiety, so he needs a patient and understanding guardian who can help him with slow departure exercises as he adjusts to his new environment.Mick is comfortable with teenagers but would do best in a home without young children. He enjoys outdoor activities, particularly running around in the yard playing fetch, and he's a joy to walk on a leash. At the end of the day, Mick loves nothing more than cuddling up on the couch with his people. His eagerness to please and his intelligence make him an incredibly rewarding companion for someone willing to invest in his emotional well-being and training. If you're looking for a loyal and loving dog to share your home with, Mick could be the perfect fit for you! Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet Mick. Story
Hiya! My name is LUCKY and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed:  Pittie / Shar Pei (??) mix Age:  2 years old (approx.) Gender:  Female Weight:  63.8 lbs (29 kg)  Height:  65 cm (paws to top of my head) Length:  83 cm (head to butt) Neck:  45 cm Chest:  74 cm Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY - I was found at the Mexico City Airport when the rescue team was there sending another pup to Canada. I was wandering in and out of the airport when my rescuers saw me. They put a crate on the floor for me and I walked right inside! It is believed that I once had a home because I already know how to walk on leash. I have been living at the shelter since August 2024 and am so ready to find my forever home!  TEMPERAMENT - I am a super sweet, loving, and playful girl. You can see from my photos that I love affection - look at the pure joy and happiness in my eyes! I enjoy playing ball and loveee toys (everything from stuffies to bones). I love to go on long walks with the volunteers at the shelter. After my walks, I like to nudge or "knock" at the door to come back inside and eat some food. I am playful and affectionate, even with strangers. I love to get pets and belly rubs (video)! I am friendly with other dogs at the shelter (my BFF is a male shnauzer mix named Stefano)-- we sleep in a kennel together at night. PS. I love carrots!! ENERGY LEVEL - Medium to High - I enjoy play time and lots of walkies with my trusted hoomans! Exercise is a must for me!  GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown. I haven’t had much exposure to kiddos so far at the shelter.  Dogs –  Yes! I have lots of pals at the shelter, and enjoy walking and the dog park with my fellow doggos!  Cats – No thank you!  PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Good/Fair. I love any chance to go on a walk! Although I follow basic commands, it's important to remember that I am a BIG, strong girl! So I need a confident owner who is capable of walking a strong doggo. My skills will need some polishing up when I am adopted. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: When I was rescued, I had very low bodyweight and was malnourished. I also had a case of Mange (skin condition). I received proper vet care and have fully recovered! I originally ate ROyal Canin food to help me gain weight, but now I have transitioned over to the shelter regular diet (which also includes daily veggies!) I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates. ##2240439##

Story
Helloooooo Canadaaaaa! My name is Kyros and here is some info about me: Breed: American Pitbull TerrierAge: 8.5 yrsGender: maleWeight: 28 kgs/ 61lbsHeight: tbd Witnesses saw me being dumped from a car on a busy highway. Terribly shameful thing for someone to do. Thank goodness my rescuer saved me. After my rescue, my old owner was identified and my rescuer discovered that I lived most of my life (5 years) tied outside a garage... through cold winters and hot, hot summers. I lived neglected and tossed away.  Horrible again. I was adopted within 6 months after being rescued from the side of the highway.  My owner and I bonded very well and had some great times together!  He was showing me kindness and helping me to trust and learn some rewarding behaviours.  Unfortunately, he suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away.  So sad.  After that, I was placed in a paid boarding facility, where I am extremely depressed and barely eating.  I am an extremely loyal and protective dog. I often get depressed and stop eating if I am not with a human for a long period of time. I warm up to, and bond with people very quickly.  I stay close to my human and give them a lot of sloppy kisses and love. I can be trained easily once I trust the person.  My motivations have been verbal and physical praise and attention-- show me love and I will follow your command! I was initially reactive towards all dogs, but with training and some socialization from my previous owner, I was able to approach female dogs in a playful way without reacting. See my video. Though still not friendly with male dogs at all (have a bite history with a male dog). I will never be the dog who can be left off-leash in a park, but with proper training and leadership, I can be a very good dog and loyal companion! Through the work my owner had done, I can walk past barking male dogs (with a secure fence separating us) without flinching (before I was adopted, I used to lunge and pull right away), but if one of them crosses a line and annoys me, I will still lunge and snap at them. If my training is resumed, I'm sure I can improve further. I showed definite improvement with someone taking the time to work with me. The best home would be one without young children or other pets. I will do well with 1.5 hours of walking per day and around 30 minutes of running or tug play. It would be ideal to be in a home with a fenced space for off-leash play, since I cannot be left with other dogs. It would be grand if I could go to a Pitbull knowledgeable home.  We're truly an amazing breed! ENERGY LEVEL: Moderate I GET ALONG WITH:Dogs: ok with females (on leash only) and not friendly at all with males.Cats: unknown, but not likelyKids: unknown. I greet kids (7-10 yrs) during walks, but have never lived with one. I seem friendly and kind with them during walks.  Must be monitored. PREY DRIVE: High FEARS:none that my rescue mom knows of! I do get jumpy if someone does a lot of sudden movements around me due to my abusive history. TRAINING: someLeash skills – I am leash reactive, so will need continued work on this. My previous owner was teaching me how to walk nicely on the leash, but I still pull a lot!House trained – I was in a home before, but need a refresher!Other tricks – sit and stay HEALTH NOTES:I am a healthy boy. I am fully vaccinated and neutered. I am also microchipped! My adoption fee is $650.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. I would likely fly through Montreal, see extra costs below. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. ##1304455##

Story
Meet Flais! This gentle fella was abandoned outside our rescuer's foster home in Zapapoa so we don't know much about the first few months of his life.  He did arrive with several wounds, likely from other street dogs. He's had time to heal and recover from his frightening past on the street, and has received full Vet care including catching up on vaccinations and being neutered.  He's all set and ready for adoption.   There's nothing about this guy that even hints at his rough past; he delights in any kind of human attention and gets along well with all the other pups at the shelter.  Good with kids, he'd suit a family environment where he'd revel in any and all adventures and be just as happy to cuddle quiet evenings away with his people.  He doesn't seem to want to make friends with kitties tho, so it's best he be placed in a non-kitty household! Will you be the one to give this gentle fella the love and stability he deserves?  He will pay you back in unyielding loyalty, never ending cuddles and companionship! VETTING: Fully vaccinated Neutered/Spayed Dewormed SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma) Flea/tick/heartworm prevention No known medical issues or injuries PLEASE NOTE: Flais is currently in Mexico. There will be a $235 fee for transportation to BC. This will be discussed upon approval. ##2301417##
