Story
Meet Birch, a five and a half year old male Pit Bull mix.Birch got his name because he was dumped at the shelter location on Birchfield road. When staff was out feeding the feral lot cats, Birch limped right up for pets. He didn't seem to mind the cats and showed zero interest in chasing them at that time. Once Birch got some attention he followed shelter staff straight in the back door. Birch is a very handsome boy with a solid 65 pound build. His history is unknown but he was limping when he was found d and has a scar on one leg too. Birch is a happy boy and very strong on the leash so leash manners would be good for him to learn. He is extremely food motivated and training should be pretty easy because of it, he already knows "sit", "shake", and "down". Birch has been with us since October 2023 so when he first gets out he has a good amount of energy, but give him a 5-10 minute walk and he will settle in for some good pets and belly rubs. Birch loves human attention and is hoping to find a home to call his own that has lots of love and treats! If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.

King Cyrus is such a happy boy. He may have been through a lot but he is all smiles at YHS. King Cyrus is strong and still needs some leash training but he loves his treats and has a heart of gold. Meet King Cyrus, a 2-year-old male Pit Bull mix.King was brought to the adoption center with 3 other pits after being abandoned in a home in very bad condition. These dogs have suffered on their own but thankfully kept their affectionate personalities. King is the last of this group to remain at the adoption center. He would love a home that can give him some more TLC but is also welcoming to his outgoing and energetic personality. This pet is available for adoption on 1/22/24 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Meet Kenny, a 1-year-old male Pit Bull mix.Kenny is such a fun boy! He loves to get attention and is super cute. Kenny is a littler derpy but in the best way. Meet Porter, a 3 year old Pitbull mix.Porter is an extremely curious boy, all he wants to do is sniff around and figure out what perfume the ladies are wearing these days. This guy was brought to us by City of Yakima animal control as he was making his way around town. He is a very strong guy and has absolutely no problem showing you his muscles either. Story
Penny went to the SunDome for the March Muttness event and did amazing! She was quiet for the whole event and walked with both the staff and the public. Penny had no issue being petted or approached by the crowd while kenneled and loved getting treats. She spent most of the night calmly sitting in her kennel and giving people her sad eyes for pets.Meet Penny, a 2 year old Pitbull mix. Penny is such a sweet girl, she does come off a little shy at first but once she warms up to you her cute little nubby tail starts to wag and she leans in for some head scratches. Penny is going to make an amazing addition to any family. Whether that be an outdoorsy family that would like to take her for camping trips or hikes, or a family that wants to stay in and relax on the couch with some popcorn.
