Story
Hi, I'm Micah! I'm around 10 weeks old and look to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix. I'm a sweet boy and can't wait to find my forever home. Are you who I'm searching for? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2591844##

Story
Meet sweet Harmony.  She is the music your heart will dance to.  I am so smart and curious. I am at 50% success rate with sit and come. Consistency and treats make it easier. I  walk/ prance great on a leash.  I love food and treats which will make training easier.  I haven’t had full accidents in the house but have the puppy excited/scared dribbles.  I love rubber toys to chew on because i am teething. (Keep things you don’t want chewed on just incase I might want to see if it’ll get these baby teeth out)  I am doing great with the kennel. I whine a bit at first because im lonely but calm down after about 10 minutes and sleep through the night.  I want warm welcomes and some reassurance. I want to lay near my humans but not right up next to them. Story
With the holidays coming up, you must have a lot of baking to do, so you must need some Sugar! I’m Sugar, a 20 week old shepherd mix who loves to be with her humans. Once I dub you trustworthy, I won’t let you go and I’ll even protect you from the scary vacuum! I go potty outside like a champ, but I get a little nervous and need some encouragement. It’s a scary world out there for a small (large) pup like me! My foster mom says I think I’m smaller than I am, but don’t believe her, I’m a perfect lap dog! She says I’ll grow a bit but I think I’ll always be able to cuddle in laps While I love all humans, younger kids move too fast and startle me. I much prefer older kids who understand my cues. I think I’d be a great best friend for an older kid or even a teenager! I’d keep them safe from things that bump in the night or hide under the covers with them for late night reading!   I miss my humans when they leave, so I do sing a bit! Over time I soothe myself in the crate, but I’d love to sleep and cuddle and just be with you all night long!   I’m currently learning sit, stay, go to bed, and come. I’m a studious pup!   If you’re looking for a new friend for your family, maybe, just maybe, we can help each other out in this big world?   Just add extra sugar to your grocery list today by clicking the link to send your application in!  Cats: (foster does not have cats) Kids: Older kids , younger kids Dogs: (I am very submissive!) Story
Charlie and his siblings Dennis, Dee, and Mac have an always sunny disposition. They are spunky, happy friendly and curious. Their favorite past time is hanging out by one of the ponds. They don't quite swim yet but definitely love water. Great with dogs of all sizes and with cats. Love to cuddle. Do not love being a crate though. They will each make perfect family dogs or adventure buddies for a single person or couple. They are some of the best puppies I've ever met. They were surrendered to a small rural shelter as an accidental litter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) Vetting: lifetime free microchip, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, too young/small for neuter and heartworm test. Story
Mac and his siblings found themselves at a small rural shelter with no foot traffic so we got them out. Mac is curious and independent and loving and adventurous. He loves water and he spends most of his day exploring the woods and ponds on the property. He is super smart too. His siblings are all fluffier than he is and look more shepherd like than he does. He has more of a heeler look in terms of coloring and shape but based on their sizes and their growth since I got them, I believe they will be big dogs. Big, happy, friendly, loving dogs. He is about 4 months old. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below.
