Story
Between May 1st and 15th, part of my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for $50!
Meet Possum! He is a 1 year old, 75-pound Anatolian Shepherd Mix. Life with Possum is awesome! We might say it too much, but it's true - he is a very good boy.
Possum is a shy but friendly dog who is relatively low maintenance. He takes time to truly warm up to new people (about three weeks or so) but once he does, you become his one and only!
True to his breed mix, your home is his to protect: though not a big barker, he's happy to alert you when someone is at the door or on your property. Overall, he can be a bit aloof, but likes to greet his people at the door, in the morning, and will occasionally sneak over to his human during the day for some affection.
Possum is COMPLETELY house and crate trained, even enjoying some time in his crate all on his own! This smart boy has excellent house manners as well, even knowing not to jump up on your furniture. He loves all people (kids over the age of 5 included!), and is even friendly with other dogs, though often isn't too keen on sharing his things with them (though who can blame him for wanting all the toys and treats for himself)? As a bonus, he is completely leash trained and prepared for plenty of long walkies.
On the topic of toys and treats, Possum LOVES his toys and enjoys people food as well. He also loves to dig holes in the dirt for fun, and loves having a yard.
This quirky boy is a perfect balance between not too outgoing but not too shy. If you're interested in adding a gorgeous large-breed to your home, apply for Possum today!
Possum is currently being fostered in Elizabeth, NJ. His adoption fee is $425.

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and Bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
