Muffin: Certified Couch PotatoNot every cattle dog is chasing cows andclimbing mountains. Muffin’s chasing something far more elusive — theperfect nap spot.At just 3 years old, Muffin has already mastered the artof taking it easy. She enjoys short walks (emphasis on short) and believesthat after 10 minutes, it’s time to reflect, rest, and possibly lie down inprotest. Her volunteers have learned to plan routes that end exactly whereshe decides the adventure is over — usually near shade or snacks.Muffin isn’t lazy — she’s efficient. She saves her energy for the important thingsin life: snacks, cuddles, and quality time on the couch. If you’re lookingfor a laid-back companion who’d rather binge-watch than power walk, Muffinis your girl.Adopt Muffin, and gain a professional lounger, world-classcuddler, and the ultimate reminder that sometimes slowing down is the bestway to enjoy the ride.

Story
Hi there! My name is Turnip and I'm at the Santa Barbara Campus. I am a 4 month old, spayed female, Queensland/Shepherd mix. I'm a little shy, but I really come out of my shell around other dogs. I will need a home with a friendly, socially confident dog who can help me learn about the world. Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Purina will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission. Hope to see you soon!

Lizzy is your go to gal for smarts, snuggles, and adventures! She’s eager to please (treat motivated!) and the perfect mix of adventure buddy and cozy home companion. Lizzy has blossomed in foster care in a home environment. She’s housebroken, sleeps through the night, and respects boundaries when they’re set consistently (though she secretly hopes you’ll invite her into bed for snuggles). Not to mention her leash skills are getting better every day! Her favorite types of fun? (1) Outdoor fun: Fetch with her ChuckIt! ball is her FAVORITE, but she also enjoys hikes, jogs, runs, car rides, and walkies and (2) Indoor fun: Lizzy loves to curl up nearby (often with a single paw or her nose touching you) and nap while you relax or work from home, and she`ll happily settle and keep herself entertained with a chew toy, or a pupsicle when you need space). Lizzy is a quick learner, very affectionate, and bonds deeply with those she trusts. She is looking for a home where she can be your one-and-only pet. She’ll thrive with someone who enjoys both snuggling on the couch and exploring the outdoors, and who can offer her patience, structure, and a whole lot of love. Lizzy makes life simple, clear cues and a little love (and a ChuckIt! ball or two) are all she needs. If you’re ready for a once-in-a-lifetime dog who will be your loyal shadow, Lizzy is waiting for you.

Story
Meet OLSASweet Olsa is part of a bonded pair with Falcon, who is most likely her father. They were left behind when the family moved away, and found themselves in our shelter, sad and confused. But they have each other and that seems to make all the difference! They have been in foster care for several months and are doing very well there.Olsa is about eight years old and about 43 pounds. She is an adorable girl, quiet most of the time except when shes trying to get her buddy to play! She loves going on walks around the neighborhood but otherwise shes just happy to hang out; she`s not fit enough for more exercise, so she wouldn`t be a good hiking buddy. The two of them are so easy that anybody who wants dogs that make few demands but are good company would be lucky to have these two. They are crate trained and love going on car rides as well and of course they are housebroken. They do great with other dogs and seemed scared when they met a cat. They are gentle with children.Olsa is shy when she first meets people so you need to give her a chance to warm up. She will need multiple meetings with a potential adopter to get to that point, and a gradual transition to a new home. But once she does shes a lovely companion and would be perfect for someone who just wants some dogs to hang around with that don`t require much. She is also quite frightened by new or sudden sounds, so anyone who adopts her would need to be able to handle a 40-ish pound dog that might be startled and pull sharply on a leash. The rest of the time she walks beautifully.Olsa and Falcon are very attached to each other, and need to go together to a home with a secure yard and a patient family who will let them settle in and build trust at their own pace. The reward is two dogs who are affectionate, obedient, quiet, and easy to have around!

Sweet Murray! This boy is a one year old tricolor Aussie, very striking looking and as loving as he is gorgeous. Not only is he handsome; he's also easygoing and loving. He's basically a big goofy older puppy. Murray plays really well with other dogs. He's also a lover with people. He's probably too rowdy for little kids. And we don't know how he is with cats. Murray is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and ready to be your best friend!

Story
Hello! Unfortunately my husband and I have come to the sad conclusion that we will need to rehome our 3 year old Aussie, Augie. We adopted Augie in 2022 when she was 6 months, after she was found on the streets of Bakersfield. We had a baby this past December and Augie just hasn’t seemed to get comfortable with the baby. We also aren’t able to give her the attention and exercise she needs to be happy. Augie came to us leading heavily with anxious behaviors— lunging and barking at anything that would pass us. We put in a lot of training with her and she has improved so much. She’s a loyal dog and will bark when meeting new people but warms up quickly. She’s very friendly and snuggly once she’s familiar with you. She would do okay with a house with another dog, but a slow introduction at first would be helpful. She would not do okay with a house with cats or children. She’s a sweet girl who would thrive with an active owner!

Story
Rowan is a 7 year-old, purebred, red merle Australian Shepherd. He is a beautiful blue-eyed boy who we adopted in 2018. Rowan is an extremely smart, loyal, obedient, and loving dog who struggles with situational reactivity and aggression. In a few cases now, this has escalated to nips and very minor bites. My husband and I moved from Michigan to Santa Barbara in 2023 so that I can pursue my PhD at the University of California, and are now living in a small, two-bedroom apartment. Further, I am currently pregnant and expecting twins who are due in early December. Sadly, we know that keeping Rowan in the home with two newborns is not feasible for us. We are really hoping to find him a new home where he can thrive and his behavioral problems can be safely managed. He does really well with grooming, the vet, & boarding- he loves the staff and is able to be around other dogs. Rowan does not come without his challenges, but he is an affectionate goofball who will love you forever.
