Story
Interview with Dash:Interviewer: How did you arrive to the Animal Shelter? Dash: Well, I was walking down the street looking for leftover Thanksgiving scraps when I noticed that someone pulled their vehicle over to the side of the road. I assumed they had some scraps for me, so I walked up to them and jumped into their vehicle and guess what, no scraps, how rude!!!! The man who picked me up told me that he didn't want me to get hurt and took me to the Animal Shelter. Interviewer: Did you like being at the Animal Shelter? Dash: At first no, because there were a lot of rowdy dogs in the area I was staying at. It scared me a bit and I just stayed to myself, but then one day I went out for a walk and they put me in the Administrative Supervisors office, which was awesome. I went from a small apartment to a condo! A big upgrade. Interviewer: What has changed since you arrived at the Animal Shelter?Dash: A lot has changed! When I arrived at the Shelter, I was heartworm positive. I went into a foster home while going through my treatment. Thankfully, my treatment has been completed and starting March 15th, I can return to my normal activities, like playing fetch with a tennis ball and going for long walks! I cannot wait, I'm so excited for this day to arrive. Also, my foster parent wanted to adopt me, which I was super excited about because she has been one of the best foster parents that any dog could ask for, but unfortunately with inflation and being on a limited income, she cannot adopt me. But that's okay because my forever family is out there, I just know it.Interviewer: What do you look for in a family?Dash: Okay, I am going to be a little picky here. I am a woman's man, but if the woman I adore has a man in her home, I'll be okay with that ONLY under these circumstances: 1) Men like to wear these weird things on their heads that scare me sometimes. My foster parent told me those are called "hats". Not sure what they do, but they sure do scare me and prefer they not be worn when I'm around. 2)No loud power tools in my presence. Those things scare me too.Other than those 2 circumstances, I should be perfectly fine with a male in the home. What will not work for me is children. They scare me as well. Anytime I get scared, I tend to nip at their shoes. I guess it's the Heeler in me that makes me do that. I am not a fan of cats and I have never met a dog before, so I'm not sure how I'd do with them.Interviewer: Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?Dash: I love belly rubs, cuddling, sleeping on the couch and sleeping in my foster parents' bed. I'm usually a couch potato, but sometimes I like to run around a bit. I am housetrained, but there are 2 things to know about that. 1) I can usually hold my "business" for some time, but if you are not around and I really have to use the bathroom, I try to become the Kool-Aid man and bust through the wall to get outside to use the bathroom. Trust me I know it sounds bad, but I do not want to make a mess in the home. 2) When you take me out to use the bathroom, it may take me a bit to find the right place, but once I find that place, that will become my forever bathroom.Interviewer: I know you are currently in a foster home. How can adopters meet you?Dash: They can contact the Animal Shelter at 678-965-7185 or email Adoptions@forsythco.com to set up an appointment to meet me.

Hector is 10 years old, walks great on a leash and really enjoys attention. He does need to be the only dog in the house. Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.

Story
Meet Ziva! Hello, beautiful people! My name is Ziva, your soon-to-be four-legged best friend. I am an Australian Cattle Dog/Mix. I have the prettiest black/grey coloring on my coat with spots throughout my coat. Everyone says I have the biggest smile that could make anyone's day. I am approximately 5.5 years old and weigh around 53 pounds, and I am fully grown. I have soulful eyes and a very sweet disposition. I am the perfect mix of energetic and relaxed. I am a typical cattle dog who can be mouthy and tend to herd, so I would do best in a family without small children. Now when it comes to toys, I am obsessed with squeaky toys. I will squeak it until it can't squeak anymore! Due to my more mature age, I have great leash manners, keep my kennel clean, and don't jump up onto people. My ideal home would be with a loving family (no small children) or person who is looking for a new best friend to play with and snuggle with. If you have another small dog (I don't care for large dogs), I would love to meet them to see if we would be friends for life too! I would do better in a home without cats. Currently, I am up for adoption. If you are interested in learning more about me, please put in an application online or call the Humane Society of Forsyth County at 770-887-6480 for more information on me, Tuesday through Sunday. Love and kisses, Ziva!

These pups are in Athens, Georgia too!

Story
Apply here: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/ Introducing Rain, our cute little wobbly friend! Rain is currently around a year old and weighs in at just about 35 pounds! Anyone who meets our sweet Rain can see that he is a special boy! You may notice that Rain walks a little differently than most puppies his age - he’s quite clumsy! A complete neurological and orthopedic evaluation at the University of Georgia didn’t show any specific abnormalities, so it is likely that Rain was born with several congenital issues that resulted in his quirky walk. He used to have some issues in the pottying department as well, but these are well controlled on a specific diet. At this time, Rain does not need any special medications or therapies to treat his unique condition. Just lots of love! Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands Rain is currently working on both house and crate training. He needs a proper routine in order to not have accidents in the house, but manages to keep the house dry if he is taken out on schedule! It seems he has a grasp that potty = outside, but sometimes, he just can’t help himself, which is totally normal for a puppy! As far as the crate goes, that one is a bit easier. He will cry for just a bit reminding you that he’s there, but once he’s settled he’s good to go! He currently stays in the crate at night, for all his meals, and if his foster family goes out! Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids Because he’s a puppy, life's a breeze for Rain! He is curious and fun, and will play, play, play if you let him. He’s been around children from ages 3-14 and overall, he’s great other than some puppy nibbles. Chasing cats is a fun game, but will quickly stop if he’s corrected by the cat (or human!) And as far as other dogs go, he loves them! But he is a little too amped for playing so he may get on an older dog's nerves and have to be taught the house rules. Rain would not be a good candidate for a dog park because of his health needs, but would likely do well with trusted dogs in a private park setting! Behavior around People + Exercise Needs Rain is by all accounts your typical puppy. He loves to play! He loves people and is so friendly! Rain especially loves snuggles once he’s got his energy out! He’s not demanding about attention though and will leave you alone if you aren’t up for it in the moment. Rain is a hop, skip, and a sideways run (literally) away from being yours! Contact us today! If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card. This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead. All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER. We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.

Story
Maui the Minxie! This lil sprite is Maui. Maui is an approximately 9 week old Aussie mix gal (maybe husky?). Maui minxie has lots of puppy energy, smarts, and super sweetness. Maui and her littermates were found abandoned by the the side of the road. A good Samaritan or two helped get them into rescue. Now? Now they, like Maui, are ready and raring to get to their Forever Home! Maui is overflowing with personality. She's a gal who knows her own mind. At the top, is P-L-A-Y. Maui LOVES tug-of-war style games and romping with her puppy pal. She puppy grrs and barks as she frolics about. Squeaky toys are an invitation for happy howls and Foster Mama can't help but laugh at this joyful gal's antics! The minxie will leap into the air and pounce on her toy, or on her furry friend. When her puppy sister is ready for a nap, Maui doesn't hesitate to coax big foster brother (the resident golden) to join her. She does know when it is chill time and listens respectfully when big bro or Foster Mama call "time out". Foster Mama says the minxie is as responsive as she is bright. Maui is made to go-she's an independent, high energy, intelligent and responsive spirit. (Maui learned "sit" in a minute). The puppy already comes when she is called. She's a likely candidate for doggie sports-like, agility, flyball, Fast CAT. Maui could be trained by her heart human to be a great trail buddy, running companion or car co-pilot. Maui travels well in her carrier in the golf cart-but her preference is being held so she can see everything and take it all in. The world is a fascinating place. Maui has all the sweet-heart to match her play-game! Foster Mama calls Maui a "Heart Melter" with her soul filled eyes and cuteness. Cuddles and snuggles are Maui's next favorite thing after play. The pupper patters right over to her Person when it's time to be held. Pets and Tummy Rubs elicit gremie growls of contentment. The sprite is on target for learning house manners, but, of course, she's still a pup in training. Where is Maui's Forever After? This lil fairy princess will do best in a home with active folks-people who like to see and do and bring their fur family member along. Maui's Forevers have TONS of BIG love to give to this little one along with the fun and games. She does great with the kiddoss she's met, we think dog savvy youngsters 8 and up will be great. A fun fur bud her size or so would be perfect. Maui hasn't been tested around felines yet. Her People will want to teach her appropriate boundaries with small critters and keep an eye on her interactions with them Whomever wants to add Maui to their home will have to be familiar with herding breeds and understand their need for hands-on-training, things to do, and their social "part of the family" nature. A fenced in yard is preferred but may not be necessary for the very experienced herding home. Maui is bright eyed and ready to take on the world with her Best Friend by her side-lovingly showing her the best life a dog and human can have. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you have the time to give and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips or nibbles, please apply with that in mind. Maui sparkles, 'I'm ready to be your number one girl, happily ever after!' Is Maui your little Minxie? If so, fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.) https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/dDNce9yr0ChU0F -Fostered in FL, Hernando County. *Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a Happy Forever. Transport help may be available for some dogs to to some states, depending on the dog's best interest. *The breed/mix assigned to this dog is based on appearance and/or traits, not from a DNA test. Story
Malia, lil Pixette! This pretty pixie is Malia. Malia is an approximately 9 week old Aussie mix girlie (husky?). Malia pretty much lives up to her name: she's a darling loving, playful little bitsy with a gentle soul. Malia and her littermates were found abandoned by the the side of the road. A good Samaritan or two helped get them into rescue. Now? Now they, like our Malia, are ready and raring to get to their Forever Home! Mellow Mali has all the clever cuteness you'd expect. The pix loves to play, (of course!) and enjoys frolics with her puppy playmate. Malia grunts and growlies as she tugs with her toys. Toytime is funtime. And...a basket of stuffies is the perfect place for a girl to chill. Malia's Sweetest Spot though is in the arms of her Lucky Human. Foster Mama says Malia is such a cuddly, snuggly poppy. "She's too adorable!" Mali galie is the one to love on, and cozy up with at the end of a busy day. A Heart dog brings balance to a sometimes chaotic world. Belly rubs make Malia soo happy! She affectionately and gently nibbles on toys or fingers-all is good in Malialand. The pup poddles over to be picked up and sprinkle pixie dust kisses while she's held. Malia's very responsive, comes when she's called and learns quickly.("Sit" on the first try for a tasty tidbit!) She hangs out in an enclosed area when the family is out. And...has been known to find an escape route out. Lol. Her Future Besties will help Malia learn when to stay and where to go. Like all herding dogs, clever girl will enjoy puzzles and interactive games. Out and abouts on the golf cart are Super Cool-she rides contentedly in her carrier. The pixie is on target for learning house manners, but, of course, she's still a pup in training. Malia's Forever After? Our girly will love to have Someone to love on her! Her Fortunate Forevers must have TONS of BIG love to give and will receive all her pixie dusted kissies in return. Malia's Forevers will give her time and train her to direct her puppy nibblings as she grows. Malia's done fine with kiddos she's met, 8 and up who respect dogs will be great. A dog bestie of similar temperament and size would also be nice. Malia hasn't been around kitties yet. Her People will want to monitor her around small critters and teach her appropriate boundaries. She does great with the kiddos she's met, we think dog savvy youngsters 8 and up will be great.
