Story
Let me introduce you to the wonderful dog named Huck! Huck is a charming and affectionate companion who craves constant love and pets from his favorite humans! 🐶💕 While Huck may not be fond of cats or smaller dogs, he truly shines when it comes to his interactions with adults. He's absolutely amazing with grown-ups and forms deep bonds with them. 🐾👫 Additionally, it's important to note that Huck is not currently leash trained. But with some patience, consistent training, and positive reinforcement, he can learn to walk nicely on a leash. It may take some time and effort, but the bond you'll build with Huck during the training process will be worth it! 🐾🚶‍♂️ Given his preference for being the only furry friend in the home, Huck would thrive in a place without other animals. This way, he can bask in all the attention and affection that he desires. 🐾🏡❤️ As for how Huck interacts with kids, we currently don't have information about his compatibility with them. It would be best to introduce him to children in a controlled and supervised manner to assess their compatibility. 🧒👦👧 But one thing is for sure, with his constant need for love and pets, Huck will be a loyal and devoted companion who will bring endless joy and affection to your life! Prepare yourself for lots of cuddles, playtime, and a lifetime of unconditional love with this amazing pup! 🏡🐾😊

Meet Tundra and his heart-shaped nose! This adorably happy guy has a perky attitude that is accented by his perky ears. He loves to run and play with the resident dogs at his foster home, although he needs to be fed by himself. Tundra moved to Iowa from a high-kill shelter in Texas, and is crate and potty trained. He will is neutered and is up to date on vaccinations. Tundra enjoys chew toys and active play, but then he's ready to nap near his new best friends. He has a surprise brown patch on his rump and the backs of his ears! This fun, happy guy will be a great addition companion! He is smart and very trainable. Not recommended for small children, but he's good with other dogs in his foster home.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Sky! This handsome guy came to us as a stray, found near Homestead. He was living with the finders for a shortwhile - hoping his owner(s) would be looking for him and hoped he would be reclaimed. After never being reclaimed, Sky was brought to Safe Haven via the Iowa County Sheriff's Office. We are very lucky to have received Sky into our care at the time that we did, as he tested positive for Heartworm Disease. Although Heartworm Treatment is a long, somewhat painful, and quite costly process, we knew it was a must for this young, active boy! After nearly five months of quarantine due to activity restrictions during treatment, we are SO pleased to announce that Sky is cleared for adoption! His final bloodwork results came back NEGATIVE for heartworm and his activity restrictions have finally been lifted. This very patient guy has been through so much in the last six months of his life - he is more than ready to begin searching for his forever home! During his time at Safe Haven, Sky has gotten along well with other dogs in close proximity and has more recently found himself a canine friend in our other adoptable Blue Heeler, Dodger. These two boys have been getting along quite well - and appear to enjoy one another's company to run-off some of the typical Blue Heeler energy. Sky had the opportunity for an extended stay with a Safe Haven volunteer and family - including another medium-size dog and cat. They reported back that Sky did well with their dog - the dogs enjoyed playing, laying together, and enjoyed one another's company. Sky however did not settle in well with the resident cat. He was very curious about the cat, barked at the cat, and would be found 'pacing' the house on the lookout for the cat. With this in mind, it was decided to have Sky returned to Safe Haven for his safety, as well as the cats. After learning this about Sky, we think he'd do best in a home without cats. An active home willing to take him on walks, and maybe one with a fenced-in yard to play safely off-leash would be great too ... he loves to play ball, go for his walks, and loves all of the human interaction and attention too, of course! If you are interested in adopting Sky, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps of the adoption process. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 28, 2024, 10:50 am

Story
Since you’re reading this, I hope you are looking for your new best friend. I am too. My name is Garbo, I’m a girl, and I’m 18 months old. I weigh 29 pounds. I’m really good at cuddling. Every night as soon as my foster mom looks like she is getting ready to go to bed I race to the bed and get in the best position to snuggle. I beat her to bed every night! I do good with other dogs and like to play. Most of the time I’m pretty chill and just want to be near my people. I know how to sit and how to walk on a leash. If you have treats I’m willing to learn anything you want to teach me. I’m house trained, kennel trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Garbo, please complete the adoption application on our website at www.furfunrescue.org.  If you have questions about Garbo please contact rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657.  Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.  Indoor homes only.  Adoption donation $300.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Duke! I am a charming, happy, Cattle Dog mix.  I love to go for walks  or runs  (and I am really good at it!). I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained,  crate trained ,  and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me.  I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion .  Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are.   I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don’t pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness.  I may  have to meet you a couple times before  I know I can trust you .   I can’t tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations.  Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens.  My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger  to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life.  I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans!   Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day.  I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix!    Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and vet checks and a home visit. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 27, 2024, 5:49 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bear is a very handsome blue heeler, looking for an experienced dog owner to have a GREAT life with! Bear is super smart, and he loves to play with other dogs around his size. He requires a home with a playful and submissive canine companion near his size, he especially responds well to female dogs.  Bear is kennel trained as well as potty trained.  He loves to go for long walks and explore, he will make a superb companion for a very lucky owner! Bear does have stranger danger/reactive fears, he came to Last Hope very untrusting of people.  He has done great working with a firm and consistent handler, and will require this is his forever home but will likely always be initially reactive to strangers. Our volunteers have worked with him and found him to be a very friendly and affectionate dog, although he still requires slow and controlled introductions with strangers and will need an owner that appreciates his breed and unique needs.  No children, no cats and preferably a homeowner with a physical fenced in yard.  Bear's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, current vaccinations, and microchip.  last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, current on preventatives and vaccinations, and be altered.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 27, 2024, 5:49 pm
