Story
Meet Cooper; She is very sweet girl, who is looking for her fur-ever home. We believe she is around 3-4 years old and is a cattle dog mix. She came to us when her owner passed away and the other owner couldn’t care for her. Due to her breed or mix of breeds we are looking for a very specific home for her where she will be set up best for success! Cooper is pretty reactive towards people on leash and will nip at shins or ankles. She enjoys lots of exercise, biking right now seems to be her favorite. She’d probably do best as an only dog, as loves all the attention on her! She has had some interaction with other dogs on leash and she will correct them if their energy becomes to much for her.   Cooper also needs a kid free home.   We are requiring that her fur-ever home have heeler experience and be committed to getting her the training that she needs. Cooper will also need someone who is willing to do some training with her. **Cooper being a heeler mix does have high herding tendencies, and has a single “bite history” as she nipped someone in the calf.     An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; and heartworm testing. Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.September 19, 2023, 4:46 pm

Story
Did you know that the ivy plant is a symbol of everlasting life, devotion, fidelity and loyalty? An inspiring name for a charismatic pooch such as myself! Being the young lady that I am, an active family would be a match made in heaven! Play time is quite possibly my favorite time of day (sometimes I get a bit carried away with my plushy toys). I like to live life enthusiastically, having a positive direction for my gusto would be the ultimate delight for me! Although physical activity is an absolute riot, having a cool down period with some mental games is a good time too. At the end of the day, I just want to be involved with my people. I am not one to turn down a snuggle session by any means. What can I say, I am a sweetheart after all. I hope to find a family that wants to understand and accepts me for the glorious rescue dog that I am. For instance, I like some other dogs, but not every dog. Smaller dogs (and cats for that matter) remind me of chicken nuggets, I can't help but feel some prey drive there. But some other dogs my own size are fun to hang out and play with. I suppose that its pretty normal to not get along with everyone you meet in life though. Whether or not you are a botanical enthusiast, if you are looking for a forever companion submit your adoption application for the perfect furry addition! DOB: 5/25/2021 For safety's sake, we are looking for homes with physical fenced in areas. Please fill out our online adoption survey at www.mackenzies.info/adopt/adoption-survey-application/

Story
Shy and quiet little Specks here. I am one of the newer residents at MAS, and I’m still coming out of my shell. It might take a bit of time for me to get comfortable, but when I do I am full of wiggles and snuggles! I am making some new friends but I would really love to find my forever best friend and family. A great way for us to bond would be over an exciting game of ball! Have you ever seen the movie Air Bud? I am trying to hone in my skills like him. I am pretty good at bopping a tennis ball back up into the air, and I can zoom pretty fast…However, I do not want the attention of a professional sports pup, I would be more than pleased being just a family legend. I am a team player, I may be a bit nervous at first but I have fun with other mellow minded canine and older kid teammates. Too much “in-your-face” energy is overwhelming for me. I would just rather not play that kind of high contact sport. If you have a spot for Specks in your heart, submit an adoption application at the website below to start building your bond today! He will need to be retested in six months. If you have questions about this, please don’t hesitate to ask! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Good with kids, Good with dogs, Good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Jasmine is a sweet, lively, 10 year old heeler mix. We recently moved cross country. Our new home and schedules are not meeting her needs. If she could be with someone who works from home and has a nice yard, that would be ideal. Jasmine has spent the last 6 years living with a young child, a chihuahua, and 4 cats. She loves to go for walks and would make a great walking or running buddy. Jasmine is happiest around her people and would love to be your BFF. Jasmine is potty trained and crate trained. She knows sit, stay, off, roll over, & high five. She loves to give sloppy kisses. Jasmine needs to be with a family who has the time to give her enough exercise, love, & play. Her new family should have previous dog owning/training experience. We just went to the vet & she was given a clean bill of health, and her vaccines are up to date. She weighs 65 lbs. Jasmine is happy and easily excited but also has quite a bit of anxiety. She does take Trazadone daily for the anxiety.
