Story
DOB 05/22/2022) Hayes is heartworm positive and our rescue will treat him. For this reason, he is adoptable within 1 hour drive time of Wake Forest NC. Hayes The Resilient and Loving Terrier Mix! Are you still waiting to meet the love of your life? Well this dog literally has your heart on the tip of his nose! Are you looking for a dog who will love you unconditionally? Hayes might just be the one to steal your heart! This sweet terrier mix has had a tough start but is now on the fast track to becoming the loving companion you've been waiting for. Hayes is a handsome, intelligent boy with a big heart and an even bigger personality. While he’s had a rough start, he’s made incredible progress and is now searching for a calm, committed home where he can truly thrive. Hayes is at his best in a quiet environment without other pets—he wants to be the star of your life! He bonds deeply with his people and will stick by your side through thick and thin. A securely fenced yard is a must for Hayes, giving him space to explore and relax safely at his own pace. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands, and walks well on leash.  Hayes is looking for someone who understands that love and trust take time—and who’s ready to give him the patient, peaceful home he deserves. Hayes is a sweet and special boy that's just looking for a quite, loving home with no other pets and a nice fenced yard. Technically he is ok with cats but would probably just prefer being your one and only. He would also be ok with older, chill kids who aren't running around, playing, and rough housing. One big heart ready to love you forever. So if you have a similar lifestyle and just like things at a slower pace, not rowdy, and enjoy the sweet company of a furry friend, and this sounds like your perfect match, Hayes can’t wait to meet you. As part of Hayes’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Hayes, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2318777##

Story
(DOB 07/22/2023) Abbie is looking for a home where she can both do her fun, favorite things and burn off her SMART, playful energy and CHILL OUT with her human(s). She is the perfect combo of "let's have some fun and let's snuggle"!!! With her tail wagging, she takes her roles very seriously, and is ready to get this forever party started! Abbie is quite the little athlete! She has LOTS of happy, energy and loves all kinds of sports. Some of her favorites are chasing and retrieving balls, leaping high in the air to catch nerf frisbees, and herding two huge balls. She's also exceptional at juggling balloons and playing balloon volleyball (she's gentle and can make a balloon last a long time)! Abbie also loves the water and jumping in to cool off. Give that girl a life vest and head in with her; you will both LOVE IT! Oh, due to her excellent athletic skills, Annie has some hops for sure, so if there's a fenced yard it should be 6ft. After a fun day, Abbie enjoys sitting on the couch next to her humans. She also sleep with you sometimes, but she’s very respectful of personal space. In the mornings, she’ll snuggle up for some “puppy love” before starting the day (this sweet girl absolutely loves giving hugs and kisses). When she doesn’t sleep on the bed, she’s happy to rest on the couch. She isn't very interested in dog beds, so no need to spend any dollars on those.  She’s good with kids and other people, though sometimes her enthusiasm turns into happy jumping up, and she is working on containing her excitment when seeing you!!! She is definitely doing it out of joy, and you can't help but smile since she is so happy to see you! Her excitement boils over to walks as well, and she loves heading out and about. She is working on her leash manners and getting better and will need to continued practice and good routine. Some other silly, fun things about sweet Abbie. A little quirk is her love for small trash cans; she’ll sneak into them if they’re within reach. She’s also a fantastic communicator! When she needs something, she’ll stare at you or smack her lips until you figure it out. She’s always ready for a car ride. She is happy to sit in the back seat and doesn't need to ride "shotgun." She is a great travel companion for sure. And one of the best things about her; she’s a great guard dog. She barks when there’s something important to alert you to, but she doesn’t bark endlessly for no reason. That’s one of the things her humans love most about her! No worries; noone will be sneaky up on you without Abbie giving you the quick 411. When it comes to other dogs, she can be a little "jealous" of her special person so setting the proper stage in the begining is important. Abbie may be best suited as an only dog or with a family that is familar with slow and proper introductions and monitored playtime. Abbie has gotten along with dogs. She will chase after them if they run, because, let’s face it, most dogs love "the chase!" She’d do best with a dog who’s a calm and confident type of pup. No matter what’s happening, she wants to be right by your side. You'd be a winner if you adopted Abbie for sure! If you are ready to love Abbie as much as her foster has, then fill out an application today! You will get the most amazing love in return. As part of Abbie’s $300 adoption fee, she is spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Abbie, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2307175##

Story
Meet Rico  - a super sweet, resilient boy with a heart full of love! Rico is a gentle, affectionate pup who absolutely adores chewing on hard bones and playing with his stuffed animals. He has a soft, playful side and will happily entertain himself, then curl up for snuggles when it’s time to relax. He loves attention and being close to his people, so he’d thrive in a home where he can soak up all the love. Rico does well with cats and will sometimes even try to play with them. He’s also fine around other dogs, but he has a bit of that herding-dog nature and really enjoys having his human’s full attention - so being an only dog may be the perfect fit for him. On walks, Rico is polite on leash and doesn’t pull at all. He can get nervous if he sees other people or dogs, and especially around loud cars or noises (he was previously hit by a car), and when that happens he may try to head back home where he feels safe. Short, calm walks are best right now, especially while his leg continues to heal. He’s already walking well on all four legs outside, and indoors he’s still favoring three - but he’s improving every day and should continue to gain confidence and strength as he fully heals. Rico is a total rockstar in his crate. He’s comfortable being crated for a few hours while his foster is at work and sleeps soundly in his crate at night. He’s calm, well-mannered, and has great house habits. Rico’s highlights: Super sweet and affectionate Loves stuffed toys and hard bones Good with cats Fine with other dogs, but happiest as an only pup Excellent in a crate Walks nicely on leash Recovering well from a leg injury Dislikes loud cars and sudden noises Rico is looking for a patient, loving home where he can feel safe, build confidence, and be someone’s best buddy. If you’re looking for a loyal snuggle partner with a gentle soul, Rico might be your perfect match. ##2608409##
