Story
DOB 05/22/2022) Hayes is heartworm positive and our rescue will treat him. For this reason, he is adoptable within 1 hour drive time of Wake Forest NC. Hayes The Resilient and Loving Terrier Mix! Are you still waiting to meet the love of your life? Well this dog literally has your heart on the tip of his nose! Are you looking for a dog who will love you unconditionally? Hayes might just be the one to steal your heart! This sweet terrier mix has had a tough start but is now on the fast track to becoming the loving companion you've been waiting for. Hayes is a handsome, intelligent boy with a big heart and an even bigger personality. While he’s had a rough start, he’s made incredible progress and is now searching for a calm, committed home where he can truly thrive. Hayes is at his best in a quiet environment without other pets—he wants to be the star of your life! He bonds deeply with his people and will stick by your side through thick and thin. A securely fenced yard is a must for Hayes, giving him space to explore and relax safely at his own pace. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands, and walks well on leash.  Hayes is looking for someone who understands that love and trust take time—and who’s ready to give him the patient, peaceful home he deserves. Hayes is a sweet and special boy that's just looking for a quite, loving home with no other pets and a nice fenced yard. Technically he is ok with cats but would probably just prefer being your one and only. He would also be ok with older, chill kids who aren't running around, playing, and rough housing. One big heart ready to love you forever. So if you have a similar lifestyle and just like things at a slower pace, not rowdy, and enjoy the sweet company of a furry friend, and this sounds like your perfect match, Hayes can’t wait to meet you. As part of Hayes’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Hayes, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2318777##

Story
(DOB 07/22/2023) Did you say "sous chef", party assistant, and professional crumb inspector? Because Winnie’s always ready to be the life of the party! Her tail wagging—she takes her roles very seriously (especially when snacks are involved). Let's get this forever party started! Winnie is such a sweet girl who absolutely loves giving hugs and kisses. She’s always ready for a car ride and enjoys going with you whenever she can. She is happy to sit in the back seat and doesn't need to ride "shotgun." She is a great travel companion for sure. She’s good with kids and other people, though sometimes her enthusiasm can be overwhelming. When she runs to greet someone, it can startle them, especially when she wants to jump up. This is something she’s working on, as she knows it’s not always well-received. Just know Winnie is doing it out of immense joy! Her excitment boils over to walks as well and she is working on her leash manners and getting better but will need to continued practice and good routine. Winnie is quite the little athlete! She has LOTS of happy, energy and loves all kinds of sports. Some of her favorites are chasing and retrieving balls, leaping high in the air to catch nerf frisbees and herding two huge herding balls. She can spin them up off of her nose, roll them off her back, and then snag the handle to take it back for another toss. She is also exceptional at juggling balloons and playing balloon volleyball if it is not too windy outside and sometimes even inside. Winnie is a master at being gentle and can make a balloon last a long time! Winnie also loves the water and jumping in to cool off. Winnie enjoys sitting on the couch next to her humans while they chill and watch movies together. She also loves to sleep on the bed when she wants, but she’s very respectful of personal space. In the mornings, she’ll snuggle up for some “puppy love” before starting the day. When she doesn’t sleep on the bed, she’s happy to rest on the couch. Despite trying three different dog beds, she just doesn’t seem to enjoy them. Some other silly, fun and unique things about sweet Winnie, a little quirk is her love for small trash cans—she’ll sneak into them if they’re within reach, so they always have to be covered or kept out of sight. She’s also a fantastic communicator! When she needs something, she’ll stare at you or smack her lips until you figure it out. And one of the best things about her: she’s a great guard dog. She barks when there’s something important to alert you to, but she doesn’t bark endlessly for no reason. That’s one of the things her humans love most about her! When it comes to other dogs, she can be what may be "jealous" of her special person, so she might do better with another dog if she’s not around her owner. Winnie may be best suited as an only dog or with a family that is familar with slow and proper introductions and monitored playtime. Winnie has gotten along with dogs, but if they run, she’ll definitely chase after them—because, let’s face it, most dogs love "the chase!" She’d do best with a dog who’s calm and confident to stand their ground. Winnie has some hops for sure and can amaze you with her ability to jump fences so if there is a fenced yard it should be 6ft or she should be on a leash. Winnie has the best ears and is always listening intently to anything you say! She is a great little partner if you work from home or are home a good amount of time. She also has the cutest pink "lips" that look like she is always ready to give you a kiss! No matter what’s happening, she wants to be right by your side. You'd be a winner if you adopted Winnie for sure! If you are ready to love Winnie as much as her foster has, and get so much joy and love in return, then fill out an application today!  As part of Winnie’s $300 adoption fee, she is spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Winnie, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2307175##

Story
Bobby is lovable guy with a heart full of curiosity and a nose for adventure. He's got medium energy and gets excited for outings-so don't be surprised if he gets a little jumpy when the leash comes out. But once he's outside and away from the chaos of the shelter, Bobby's sweet and playful side really starts to shine.Bobby lives for belly rubs, snuggles, and being close to his people. He's learning his manners and already takes treats gently, which makes training a breeze. While he can be a bit reactive to other dogs in the kennel environment, he's making great progress in doggie playgroups, playing well with both male and female dogs. After a moment to warm up, he engages in bouncy, playful fun.During a recent outing with a volunteer, he enjoyed a car ride, a trip to the groomers, and some decompression time relaxing at the volunteer's backyard. Whether he's sniffing every inch of the yard like a true explorer or learning the ropes of polite doggy play, Bobby is eager to grow, learn, and love. He'd thrive with a family ready to offer guidance, patience, and maybe a backyard where he can put his nose to work.If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, and trainable companion, Bobby's ready to be your best friend-and your most loyal adventure partner.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $1,000 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Bobby/panda 247480".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Primary Color: Brindle- Brown Weight: 57 Age: 2yrs 2mths 3wks
