Story
Due to unexpected life changes, I need to rehome my 6-year-old Blue Heeler, Viggo, by September 30th, 2024. I love him dearly and consider him the perfect dog--while I know it's in his best interest to find him a new home, I am heartbroken to say goodbye! I'd love to find someone who wouldn't mind sending me the occasional picture/update around the holidays. He is a healthy, well-trained, high-energy dog who loves hiking, running, playdates with other dogs, and learning new tricks. While he's always up for an adventure, he's also incredibly affectionate and loving; a true velcro dog, he attaches closely with his human(s). He would thrive in a home where he can get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, ideally with someone familiar with the breed's needs. He is excellent on and off leash and is extremely easy to train!

Meet Ursa!  Ursa is a spunky girl with tons of personality.  She loves car rides more than anything else in the world, so if you're looking for a travel companion, she's your girl!  She also loves hiking, socializing, and playing with her friends.  She's great with other dogs but loves her humans most of all.  She would do best in a home without small children because her love for them is sometimes overwhelming.  Ursa settles down well in her crate when it's time to go to sleep at night and is SO happy to see you in the morning when it's time to get up -- and the happiest tail in the world will let you know that!  Ursa's number one goal in life is to find a family that just wants her to hang out with them.  She's an expert sous chef, assistant laundry-folder, and dishwashing supervisor.  As long as she can hang with you, she doesn't care what the activity is!  If you're looking for a buddy to keep you company, Ursa is the perfect pup!   Apply to meet her at pipsrescue.org/adopt ##1667875##

Story
Toby is a brilliant 2 and a half year old Australian cattle dog whose incredibly smart and has a ton of energy. He loves to play fetch and has been learning how to catch a frisbee. He knows all the basic commands, sit, lay, stay, shake, and is house trained. Unfortunately I work a lot and live in an apartment so I just cant give him the life he deserves. He’s not good with other dogs, we are working on it and im sure its something that can be trained out but going to a home with no dogs or an experienced owner is probably best. If i can find him a home with some land or at least a backyard that would be amazing. He is extremely loyal and will be a great companion to someone with the right situation. Im willing to drive anywhere in the US for the right person.

Story
CarsonNeutered Male DogGood with dogsNo children/children over 14 onlyHousetrainedCrate-trainedWeight 45.0About Carson: Meet Carson, a.k.a. our little teddy bear, a pint-sized cattle dog mix who is full ofpersonality! This sweet boy embodies the typical cattle dog personality – always ready to be in the mixof things and always making sure his humans are keeping his days filled with his favorite things: chewtoys, outside zoomie times, walkies, and of course dinner! Carson is full of energy when its time to play, but also loves a good snuggle (on his terms of course) when its time for TV and bed. True to cattle dogform, he is full of opinions on where he and his humans should be and needs reminding to keep mouthyplay under control. For that reason, we recommend households with older/no children.Training and Habits:Potty Training: Carson has been doing great with his potty training! He had a few accidents in hisfirst weeks in foster (mostly marking), but those have become few and far between as he’sgotten used to the swing of things. And he’s been accident free since his neuter!Crate: Toss a treat in the crate, and Carson will go in happily. He does not like to be forced intothe crate, and will give you a growl/look back. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night, but willbark for a couple minutes if you put him in during the day and he hears you still moving about.Leash: Carson’s getting the hang of things on a leash. He has an old hip injury (see health below),so we’ve been keeping walks on the shorter side and letting him choose the pace. He’s beenworking on loose leash walking – so far a lot of pulling with excitement at the start, but heresponds well to you stopping when you hit the end of the leash. On a leash, he shows interestin other dogs, but passes them well and has been non-reactive.Playtime: Like most cattle dogs, Carson has spurts of high energy! He redirects to toys well whenhe gets mouthy. So far, he’s been excellent at chasing balls but we’re still working on theretrieving. He also loves playing gentle tugs with us or playing hard with our cattle dog mix.Cuddles and Comfort: Carson loves being near his family! He does whine a bit when we/our dog leaves, but will settle after a few minutes. He is a constant companion, and loves curling up in your lap whenyou sit on the ground. He also will come snuggle on the couch with a big ole leap from all four paws atonce! He does have opinions on surprise snuggles though, and will let you know if you invade his spacewith a growl.Exercise Needs: Since Carson has an old hip injury, we try to keep his higher impact activities self-directed. He gets his zoomies out in our backyard, and plays hard with our pup. We try to keep his walksto 1 mile or less a few times per week, although he may be able to build on this. We keep his mind busywith Kongs/lick mats and we’re working on teaching him to take treats gently since we think this smartguy would take pretty well to trick training!Ideal Home: Carson’s ideal home is somewhere where he can be with his people and safely get hiszoomies out! Since we worry that daily long walks may be hard on his hip, he’d probably do best in ahome where he has a fenced yard or daily access to an enclosed outdoor space. He gets along well withour spayed female dog, but we also think he’d be fine with his humans all to himself! Adults only or ahome with respectful, older children is best since he is mouthy with play and has opinions about hisbodily autonomy.Health: Carson is neutered, microchipped, dewormed and up-to-date on his shots. He is heartwormpositive and going through treatment. He also has a broken pelvis that healed on its own slightly out ofplace. This does cause him some pain that is well managed with a low-cost pain med regime. SecondChance is happy to provide your vet with his x-rays and discuss this treatment plan.***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***

Story
I found this sweet girl near Kimball Point at Kerr Lake, close to the Virginia border. Asked nearby neighbors but no one claimed her. She had no collar and checked her for a chip - NONE. I want to find her a responsible, loving home with a fenced in yard and room to run, someone that is going to pay her lots of attention and love her, spay her and take care of her good health and medical needs. I have taken her to the vet to get all vaccines, get spayed and chipped. She is: Quite well mannered! Very friendly! Such a lover! Gives great hugs! Loves, loves, loves to ride in the car! She’s a great swimmer! Loves to play ball and fetches pretty good! Around 40 lbs. Think she is 10-12 months old. Potty trained, uses my dog door to go out in fenced yard on her own without me directing her to do so. Loves to sleep on my couch and bed with me. (I'm such a sucker! Ha-ha!) Has tons of energy. Winnie at least needs a fenced in yard or lots of property to run.
