Story
Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Hi there, my name’s Athena. I may have had a rough start, but I promise you’d never know it when you meet me. My heart is too full of love to hold onto the past. I’m four years old now, a cattle dog through and through—even if I don’t quite match the “classic” black-and-white look. I stand out in the best way: a colorful face in a crowd, with a spirit just as bright. I’m told I’m one of the sweetest souls around, and I think that’s true—because I love everyone. Kids? They make me light up. Other dogs? Especially the handsome boys—I’ll admit I have a soft spot. Cats? I don’t even bother them. I’m gentle, loving, and a little silly, too—the kind of girl who can make you laugh but also curl up beside you and just be. I’ve got manners, too. I’m housebroken, walk like a dream on a leash, and I already know several commands. I listen well because I want to please. I love hearing, “What a wonderful girl you are,” and it makes my tail wiggle with pride every single time. I think it would be fun to learn agility tricks—I’m smart and eager to try new things. If I could write my own wishlist, it would be this: a fenced-in yard where I can stretch my legs, a doggie friend to play with, a family who wants adventures but also lazy walks in the park, and plenty of cuddles at the end of the day. I want to be part of your story, not just sitting on the sidelines. I promise I’ll be your best friend, your confidant, the one who knows all your secrets and never tells. I’m ready to be the dog you’ve been waiting for, the one who will walk beside you through it all. I just need one thing now—a family to call my very own. Love,Athena *Guest Posting If you have any questions, please contact Sabrina via text at 865-659-9894 or email sabrinahuffstetler@gmail.com.ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. October 11, 2025, 3:05 am

Story
Whatsup pawty people! My name is Skelly and I'm on the hunt for my forever home! I am a 2-year-old Blue Heeler mix, and I am a big 55lb teddy bear!  A few things about me are that I LOVE to play fetch, but something I love even more is playing keep away from the other dogs with the tennis balls! I do great with other dogs and absolutely LOVE children! I do well around some smaller animals like cats, but I can still sometimes get overly excited with them. I also found love for water and pools, but I can still be a little nervous around them. My favorite thing to do is go for walks! Whether it's going on long hikes, short hikes, or even just a walk in the backyard, I'm all for it. I am a very loyal boy who will love you to no end. Just ask the shelter staff, I follow them around all day long, just looking after them and making them laugh at the silly faces I make! I would be perfect for an active family, as I love to run around and play all day long! I am also very talkative and expressive with everyone I meet. The shelter staff says that I'm the big rooster of the dogs, because I let EVERYONE know when it's time to rise and shine and when it's time to eat! I cannot wait to find my forever family and go on endless adventures!

Story
Maggie is around 2to3 yrs old. She was surrendered by owner after being hit by a car. Her L rear leg is amoutated. She does not let that slow her down. Wonderful indoor manners. Needs a fenced yard. She is very loving. Needs some work on outdoor manners i.e. coming when called when she is distracted. She is very intelligent and wants to please. Likes riding in a car. She bonds readily. Not a picky eater. Has lots of energy but does not require crating when left alone. She will be a wonderful companion.
