Story
Caesar: A Loyal Heart Seeking a Patient, Understanding Home. Hello! My name is Caesar, and I'm a handsome Shepherd (and maybe Husky!) mix, estimated to be 1.5 years old and weighing 55 lbs. I was neutered in March. I was found in Fresno, California, and didn't have much exposure to the world before coming into rescue. Because of this, I can be quite fearful and reactive towards new people and other dogs. I need a truly understanding and patient adopter who is committed to helping me feel secure and confident. While I haven't had much early socialization or training, I'm a quick learner and brave. I'm surprisingly house-trained and do very well inside the home once I understand the routine. I've already made excellent progress in my foster home, showing that with consistency and the right environment, I can continue to blossom. I'm a truly wonderful companion. I'm a fast learner and quickly accept and respect new things or people once I'm familiar with them. I've learned to sit politely for what I want and will even show you to my leash when it's walk time! I love walks and would make a great hiking buddy. My foster mom says I'm pretty strong – it must be the Husky in me! I wear a prong collar for walks, but I'm learning good leash manners. I also have a strong prey drive and am diligent about pursuing squirrels in the yard – this bodes well for your garden this summer! Initially, I was pretty reactive to vehicles passing by, particularly loud trucks or fast- moving cars. I have spent lots of time desensitizing and am much less concerned with cars on the road. Turns out, I happen to love riding in the car! I will very willingly “load up” and then enjoy the views and fresh air with my head out the window. The Shepherd in me loves to please, and I pick up new tricks quickly. I already know SIT, DOWN, and SHAKE, and we're working on STAY. I'm still a bit of a puppy at heart, playful with my toys (stuffed animals, ropes and things I can swing around are my favorite) and I’m always up for a good roll in the grass. I will patrol the yard, but generally refrain from barking at passersby. Even with yard access, I prefer being with my people if they are indoors. I like to lounge on the bed while you get ready for the day. And once I get to know you, I’ll snuggle with you on the couch. What I Need in a Home Due to my fear-based aggression, I need a home without small children. I could enjoy sleeping in on the weekends with a teenager who enjoys canine companionship. I’ve never been around a cat but would likely be inclined to chase them. I need a home with a secure yard and will always need to be on leash and harness when outside of the home.

Story
Peanut Butter is adorable, sweet, playful and very energetic dog! She loves to play outside and love cuddles and hugs! We adopted her in April and she is been super spoiled since then but unfortunately my special needs son had a seizure, a hospitalization and lots of complications after that. Our family is struggling with my son's situation and our sweet pet is not getting the care she needs and wants. Because of that complex situation, we don't have conditions to keep Peanut Butter. We are facing a hard family time and she deserves more attention that we are able to give her now. She still needs to be trained but she is doing a great job potty training. If you wants a lovely dog who loves kids and play, she is your girl!

Snickers URGENTLY NEEDS A FOSTER HOME IMMEDIATELY! Call/text Diana at (510) 333-4420 to inquire if you can help!  Snickers is a 4yo 45lb neutered male Kelpie/McNab cattledog. He’s passive, and sweet and loving with people, is ok around cats, and good with other dogs, but would do best living as an only dog or female dogs (he’s a bit pushy with males). He’s cratetrained and wants to please his person. He needs an active home.   He walks nicely on a leash and picks up new commands quickly—he knows how to sit and lie down. He looks forward to his nightly walks with great excitement and starts each day with renewed excitement.  Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc November 18, 2025, 12:59 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Meet Merry – the Sweet, Sensitive “Wiggle-Butt” Who Blossomed Into a Cuddly, Playful Companion   Merry is a 5–6 month old Australian Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix in the 20 lb range who arrived at the rescue with her brother, Bright. Shy at first glance but overflowing with love once she trusts you, Merry is one of those special pups who blossoms a little more every single day. Her foster family calls her “wiggle butt” because the second you walk through the door— whether after a long day or a 30-second trip to the bathroom— she wags so hard her whole back half wobbles with joy.   Daily Rhythm   Merry wakes up between 7–8 AM and kicks off her day with an impressive 2–4 mile walk. She enjoys several walks throughout the day (typically 3–4), and after each outing she’s happy to nibble on some food— especially if offered gently by hand. At home, her preferred spot is curled up on the couch right next to her human. By 10 PM she settles into her crate and sleeps through the night.   Personality: From Timid to Tenderhearted   When Merry first arrived, she was a quiet, scared little girl who found comfort almost exclusively in cuddles and sleep. She bonded most deeply with the female foster in the home and quickly became her little shadow— following her everywhere, curling up beside her, and seeking her out for reassurance. When “mom” isn’t around, she’ll happily snuggle with “dad,” though she doesn’t trail him room-to-room.   Over the weeks, Merry has blossomed. She discovered toys. She rediscovered joy. And she found her voice! A pup who was silent for her first few days now gives soft barks when she wants to play or get attention. She goes from cozy couch-potato to energetic playmate in seconds— then back to nap mode once that burst is spent. She is a lovely balance of gentle cuddler and lively pup.   She is still learning to feel safe with new people. Visitors can be scary for her, and she may bark when someone unfamiliar walks inside. With patient introductions and space, she warms slowly, and she’s making progress every week.   Other Animals, New Environments & Kids   Merry has met one dog off-leash and, after some initial barking and uncertainty, did well with mutual sniffing and enjoyed their walk together. She’s curious but nervous when dogs approach too quickly.   She has interacted with children ages 1, 2, and 8. She was most comfortable with the 8-year-old but was still timid. Toddlers overwhelmed her, so she would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy kids—or none at all.   Energy & Play   Merry is the perfect mix of mellow and spunky. After a long walk, she becomes a warm, snuggly little couch companion. Then, after a nap, she’ll pop awake full of enthusiasm and ready for playtime.   Walking Style   On leash, Merry does fairly well overall, though she may zigzag, get underfoot, or wrap the leash around you while she’s figuring things out. She generally walks best at a brisk pace. She doesn’t chase squirrels or bark at other dogs, but she may become shy if they try to greet her. She’s very proud of herself when she gets to carry a stick.   House & Crate Training   Merry has made huge strides in potty training, now consistently going on walks and accident-free for several days.   She is fully crate-trained and sleeps peacefully through the night.   Puppy Behaviors   Like most young dogs, Merry has some normal puppy quirks:   Chewing: If she’s bored, she may go for pillows, etc— but she redirects easily to toys and then happily sticks with them.   Digging: She likes to dig if left alone in the yard.   Barking: She barks when someone unfamiliar enters the home but is quiet with people walking by outside.   What Makes Merry Special   Merry isn’t just loving— she is deeply affectionate with her people. Once she trusts you, she lets her full personality shine: wiggly, cuddly, goofy, and earnest. Her clumsy charm is irresistible: she once got so excited to greet her foster that she fell off a curb, bounced right up, and leaped back into their arms.   She is one of those dogs who reminds you every day that you are her whole world.   Why You’ll Fall in Love   If you’re looking for a tenderhearted young dog who wants to adore and be adored, who will wiggle with joy every time you walk through the door, and who is ready to continue building confidence with a loving, patient adopter— Merry is your girl.   She’s sweet, loyal, silly, snuggly, and so deserving of a home where she can continue blossoming.December 7, 2025, 8:14 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Meet Bright — a gentle 5–6 month old ACD/Shepherd mix with a soft spirit, a sweet heart, and the makings of a truly devoted companion.   Bright weighs about 18–20 pounds and came to rescue with his sister Merry. Bright has been blossoming at his own pace — and watching that transformation has been one of the most rewarding parts of fostering him.   A Quiet, Sensitive Soul Learning to Shine   When Bright first arrived, he was so frightened that he clung to his foster for comfort, unsure of the world around him. Today, he has made tremendous progress. He now follows his foster gently from room to room, curls up beside her during the workday, and checks in with soft eyes to make sure he’s still close to his person. He’s a classic little velcro dog who enjoys companionship and feels most secure when he can keep his trusted human in sight. Bright isn’t a natural cuddler yet — he prefers to quietly settle next to you or rest at your feet — but he gladly melts in for head rubs and chin scratches once he feels safe. His sweetness is unmistakable.   Daily Routine & Good Manners   Bright starts his day early with a 6 a.m. potty trip in the backyard, then tucks back in for more sleep until around 8 a.m. He enjoys a couple of short walks each day, plus backyard potty breaks every few hours. He’s been improving steadily with housetraining and usually goes in the yard where he feels comfortable. He’s still working up the courage to potty on walks, but he’s trying hard and happily celebrates with a “puppy party” when he succeeds. He eats two small meals per day (½ cup AM and PM). Because he was initially scared around food, he often prefers to finish his meals when no one is watching — but he’s gaining confidence daily and now enjoys treats, training games, and chewing a cow’s ear while relaxing.   Bright is wonderfully polite: he doesn’t bark, doesn’t jump on furniture, waits patiently at doorways, and rides calmly in the car in his crate with his cushy liner. He sleeps quietly at night on his chosen cozy spot (currently a handmade felted purse he flattened into a self-made bed!).   Training & Emerging Playfulness   Bright LOVES training games. He proudly knows Touch, Find It, and Leave It, and responds to his name with enthusiasm. These little wins have been huge for his confidence. While toys are still a bit new and intimidating, he’s slowly exploring them — nibbling on tags, investigating Lambie, and watching with interest. Because he listens closely, wants to please, and is incredibly gentle, he will be a joy to continue training as he grows braver.   Out and About   Bright walks well on his harness, stays close, and doesn’t pull. He’s afraid of loud noises (leaf blowers, squeaky shoes, sudden sounds) and can be nervous when cars pass, but he recovers and keeps trying. He doesn’t react to other dogs — he simply watches calmly and keeps moving. He’s also gone on several weekend adventures, from outdoor breakfasts to strolls through downtown San Carlos and even to a knitting shop in San Jose. He stays close to his foster’s feet, quietly taking in the world without begging or fussing.   Why Bright Is So Special   Bright is the kind of dog who quietly wins your heart. He tries so hard to be good, listens beautifully, and has a sweetness that shines through even when he’s unsure. His pretty ACD-style spotting, his attentive nature, and his soft, expressive face make him unforgettable. As his foster says, “He just wants to do the right thing all the time.”     Bright is ready for a family who can help his confidence continue to grow and who will treasure the sweet, sensitive companion he is. Whoever adopts him is going to be very lucky.  December 7, 2025, 8:36 pm
