Story
Howdy folks, my name is Frankie and I am a Kelpie/Terrier mix, about 2 years old, 27 lbs and I was a stray dog in San Antonio, picked by the dog cops for loitering, sent to dog jail, served some time, ended up on death row, and then thankfully, my life was spared by 4 Little Paws Rescue. Whew, that was a close call, but these days I’m happy, living in a foster home, and having some fun, until you and I finally meet! My foster mom says I’m a pup-cup lovin’ sweetheart, ready for any adventure and any road trip. I can be shy/submissive at first meeting strangers, but I’m great with people, love children, am good with other dogs, and I love the outdoors. I’m playful and energetic and can keep myself occupied with toys in my kennel, never fussing or whining about it. I’m very affectionate, love pets and kisses and belly rubs, and sittin’ on the couch beside you watching our favorite movies. I rarely bark, I’m already housebroken, love going for walks, and rides in the car, especially when we are headed to Starbucks. I am loveable, well-behaved, and teachable, always striving to make you proud, and looking forward to the day I’ll be wearing a collar and tag with my name and your phone number etched on… hint-hint. My future looks bright, and I am so looking forward to joining a wonderful family anywhere on the East Coast! Inquire about me today and bring me home! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. If you are located outside the states we typically adopt to, we have options to get the dog of your dreams to your location.

Story
Hi! My name is Carla. I am one and a half years old. I am believed to be an Australian Kelpie or maybe an Australian Shepherd mix. Mainly, I am mixed with love! I am a very happy, energetic, loyal, alert, eager and extremely intelligent young girl with puppy like tendencies. Due to my breed, I am capable of untiring work and endless energy if so desired. I would fit in best with an active lifestyle that includes lots of opportunities to exercise in a large fenced-in yard where I can zip around and show off my athleticism. I can run really fast. My foster mom says I'm like a bullet when I'm running at top speed! Kelpies and Australian Shepherds prefer to have a job to do as they were created to herd sheep and cattle. I will need stimulation and small tasks to keep my mind active and my energy in check. A good job or a workout combined with the mental exercise of obedience lessons would help me be my best version of myself. The mental exercise that the training provides would be a great way to keep me happy and involved. Training me for agility, obedience and rally are some great ways to give me some exercise. Although I sound like a lot of work, I can be chill as well so don't be scared off! I would be an excellent choice for adults and/or families with older (teenage) children that love to play and keep me entertained. While I love being super energetic, I also have an "off" switch too. I'm super happy if you take me out for a run, but I will be just as happy to settle down and snuggle on the couch afterwards to watch a movie. I enjoy being walked twice a day to sniff the neighborhood and do my business. I currently know how to sit and leave it. My foster mom is teaching me some additional words and some other useful commands as well. I learn really fast!! When you meet me you will notice that I have a great smile, love being petted, enjoy fetching and chewing on tennis balls, playing tug with my rope toy, and getting belly rubs. Scratches behind my ears make me very happy as well. I apologize upfront as I can be a bit bossy with other dogs...sorry...kind of a breed characteristic, so I would prefer to be an only dog and cats make my "chase" button turn on, so best to avoid those as well. But don't worry, I can certainly fill up your home with lots of fur baby fun! If you would like to open your heart and your home to me, please email STORKWOODS@COMCAST.NET directly. This is the BEST way to get an application. I am being fostered in Middle TN but there is transport available to fabulous homes in the NE.

Story
Bear is a sweet, energetic dog with Heterochromia (one blue eye) who loves to be around people who show him love. He was picked up as a stray in Georgia, spent some time in NYC, and is now being fostered in CT where he is THRIVING. He's able to run around and explore the outdoors, his two favorite hobbies. In a matter of a few days, Bear has become a lot more comfortable with the new surroundings and really started to show his affectionate side. He absolutely loves to play and loves to cuddle. Bear is housebroken and crate trained. Currently he has a crate inside his playpen, but chooses to sleep/hang out in the playpen with no issues - he sleeps through the night and relaxes (after a bit of whining) during the day. He’s very smart and food-motivated and responds very well to daily training. Bear has not been aggressive around his food and is the gentlest treat-taker you've ever seen. Bear loves to go for car rides! Personally, I like having him in the backseat with his seatbelt on, he prefers to be a passenger.  Bear walks best with his harness and benefits from continued leash training. He is an energetic, athletic, strong dog and would do great with people who enjoy outdoor activies as well. Personality & Characteristics: Energetic, Athletic, Smart, Strong, AffectionateMy foster dog is good with: Dogs, KidsMy foster dog is: Crate trained, House trained, Low ShedEnergy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 7Barker or Quiet?: Chatty when he needs to go to the bathroom or when he wants to play. Story
Location is Westminster, MD. Wilfred is looking for his next adventure! Wilfred is approximately 7 years old and is an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is wicked smart and has medium energy and would do best with daily exercise. He would make an excellent hiking partner, agility prospect and would excel at learning tricks. He loves catching frisbees and balls and enjoys squeak toys. He walks well on a leash, but also has great recall off-leash. He is very obedient and has a kind heart. He loves riding in the car and will patiently wait for you to return. His ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or the right family. He previously lived with small children and was very gentle. Just like most ACD’s, he likes to get to know his people and approach on his own terms. Now, to what he does not like…NO CATS!! He had a terrible experience with a cat in his previous life and he is still trying to get revenge. He will chase small animals, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, but can be verbally redirected easily. He previously lived with another female dog and is sharing my house with two male dogs. I think with the proper introduction, he would get along with either sex. I would recommend that they be about the same size. I do not think he would tolerate small, vocal, or anxious dogs. I would also recommend that his fur friends be confident…he previously lived with an insecure dog, and he fed off her anxious energy. I have calm, confident dogs and he has been fine. He is crate trained and house broken. He can be left out of the crate and has not had any accidents or damaged any furniture. If he gets anxious or unsure of a situation, gunfire, or fireworks, he likes to grab a squeak toy which redirects his attention and calms him down. I live near a gun range, and he has gotten less reactive to the noise since he first arrived. The dog has a lot of heart. He tries extremely hard to please. If you think Wilfred would make your home complete, please reach out to me with any questions. He is currently being fostered in Westminster, MD. Foster, J. Story
Location is Somerville, MA.   Meet Jimmy ! Or, as we also call him, The Bean, Jimmer, and Him Jim. Jimmy came to ACDRA in 2021 with a broken back leg, but after surgery and rehabilitation, you’d barely know he had an issue! Jimmy is 2 ½ years old and a big guy at 60-65 pounds. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He is crate-trained (though it still works best with a treat involved), house-broken, and knows basic commands. His recall is pretty good in the house, but I wouldn’t trust him off leash. For this reason, he’ll need a yard with a fence at least 6 feet high. Jimmy is an absolute love bug and would like nothing more than to be petted forever and ever. In fact, if you stop petting him before he’s ready for that, you may find him indulging in some annoying behaviors, like chewing on dining room chairs. He’s a big chewer – he has about 6 different kongs and loves each and every one. He can’t have stuffed toys, though, as he immediately rips them apart. Jimmy should be an only pet–he does not do well with cats or any other small animals. He’s been known to terrorize the birds in the yard. Additionally, he is dog aggressive, especially on leash, and is a resource guarder. Jimmy should not be in a home with children, either, because he’s both mouthy and jumpy. Since his leg healed, he’s regained the ability to jump and will leap suddenly if you have something in your hand that he’s curious about. Jimmy is crazy-smart and needs to be engaged. He’s very attached to his people, but not so interested in others. We’ve worked with a trainer and he seemed fine with her, but he doesn’t always react well to people on the street during walks. Jimmy ’s ideal adopter would be a single person or couple who are looking for a dog they can do things with like scent work. He will likely benefit from more work with a professional trainer, as well. If you’re interested in knowing more about Jimmy , please reach out to me at slaxterfosters@gmail.com , and please go to ACDRA.org to get to know our organization policies. Story
Location: Manchester, MD Red came to us as a Foster in March 2023.   He had a lot of trust issues which even made a few of his fosters uncomfortable.   I have worked with him to learn how he should act around humans and other dogs.    His first owner gave him up because he liked to chase the neighbor cat.  The owner could not afford to put a fence up.   He was adopted out of the shelter again.   This time, near as I can figure he was kept in a crate that was too small.   In the year he has been with me, I feed him in his crate and he willing goes in on his own.    We have a pet door and fenced yard, he has had no accidents in the house and I leave him out when no one is home, with my other two ACD’s  Red loves short car rides.   However, for longer trips he does best in his crate.   He likes to counter surf and trash can loot. He is getting better, if I catch him he puts himself in his crate without closing the door.  This 6-year-old has a lot of energy. I mean A LOT. He has some incredible speed and stamina. I have clocked him running at 15 mph Therefore, he would do great in a household that are big hikers or somebody wanting to try agility. He can jump from the ground into the back of a pick-up truck with no hesitation. He loves to jump up on the hay bales in the barn and in the back of some of our trailers. It is like he is looking for treasures. He can entertain himself with balls outside.  He loves toys but we have too many dogs to play together. The more confidence Red has the more bickering goes on between the two of them with too much Red Dog attitude.   Has not chased any livestock, just wild life.  He had huge anxiety issues like spinning in circles and biting at his tail. This behavior has disappeared, if he gets stressed he will do it.  Simply calling him to you is enough to reset his mind.  His person needs to be strong minded and very regimented in how you handle him.  At the end of the day, he likes to crawl up next to you on a chair or bed and snuggle. He will chase small dogs and cats, and vehicles given the chance. He shares a home with a senior ACD and Female ACD, however he would be best to be an only dog.    He is up to date on Vax & etc. You will have to be able to meet him before adopting him to make sure it is a good match. We are in north central MD (Manchester MD)roxy@sweetrockstables.com Complete an Application: https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application    July 25, 2024, 5:51 am
