Story
Hi! My name is Carla. I am one and a half years old. I am believed to be an Australian Kelpie or maybe an Australian Shepherd mix. Mainly, I am mixed with love! I am a very happy, energetic, loyal, alert, eager and extremely intelligent young girl with puppy like tendencies. Due to my breed, I am capable of untiring work and endless energy if so desired. I would fit in best with an active lifestyle that includes lots of opportunities to exercise in a large fenced-in yard where I can zip around and show off my athleticism. I can run really fast. My foster mom says I'm like a bullet when I'm running at top speed! Kelpies and Australian Shepherds prefer to have a job to do as they were created to herd sheep and cattle. I will need stimulation and small tasks to keep my mind active and my energy in check. A good job or a workout combined with the mental exercise of obedience lessons would help me be my best version of myself. The mental exercise that the training provides would be a great way to keep me happy and involved. Training me for agility, obedience and rally are some great ways to give me some exercise. Although I sound like a lot of work, I can be chill as well so don't be scared off! I would be an excellent choice for adults and/or families with older (teenage) children that love to play and keep me entertained. While I love being super energetic, I also have an "off" switch too. I'm super happy if you take me out for a run, but I will be just as happy to settle down and snuggle on the couch afterwards to watch a movie. I enjoy being walked twice a day to sniff the neighborhood and do my business. I currently know how to sit and leave it. My foster mom is teaching me some additional words and some other useful commands as well. I learn really fast!! When you meet me you will notice that I have a great smile, love being petted, enjoy fetching and chewing on tennis balls, playing tug with my rope toy, and getting belly rubs. Scratches behind my ears make me very happy as well. I apologize upfront as I can be a bit bossy with other dogs...sorry...kind of a breed characteristic, so I would prefer to be an only dog and cats make my "chase" button turn on, so best to avoid those as well. But don't worry, I can certainly fill up your home with lots of fur baby fun! If you would like to open your heart and your home to me, please email STORKWOODS@COMCAST.NET directly. This is the BEST way to get an application. I am being fostered in Middle TN but there is transport available to fabulous homes in the NE.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Squirt is an awesome dog who is currently with our partner in Louisiana. Squirt is hoping to come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. We offer a foster-to-adopt trial for approved adopters. Squirt and his friend Boot were surrendered to our partner rescue in Louisiana. He is now in a foster home in Louisiana with other dogs and cats. Squirt is a timid boy at first and takes a little time to get to know new friends. He is a sweet, loving, well behaved companion. We think he is a Kelpie and/or Shepherd mix. Squirt is fixed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is currently being treated for heartworm and can come to NJ after his treatment. His adoption fee is $550.  Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. How to Adopt Me! If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to    wagoninn.rescuegroups.org   . Click on the orange Online Adoption Application button to fill out an application. A Wag On Inn volunteer will be in touch soon! Story
Location is Westminster, MD. Wilfred is looking for his next adventure! Wilfred is approximately 7 years old and is an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is wicked smart and has medium energy and would do best with daily exercise. He would make an excellent hiking partner, agility prospect and would excel at learning tricks. He loves catching frisbees and balls and enjoys squeak toys. He walks well on a leash, but also has great recall off-leash. He is very obedient and has a kind heart. He loves riding in the car and will patiently wait for you to return. His ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or the right family. He previously lived with small children and was very gentle. Just like most ACD’s, he likes to get to know his people and approach on his own terms. Now, to what he does not like…NO CATS!! He had a terrible experience with a cat in his previous life and he is still trying to get revenge. He will chase small animals, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, but can be verbally redirected easily. He previously lived with another female dog and is sharing my house with two male dogs. I think with the proper introduction, he would get along with either sex. I would recommend that they be about the same size. I do not think he would tolerate small, vocal, or anxious dogs. I would also recommend that his fur friends be confident…he previously lived with an insecure dog, and he fed off her anxious energy. I have calm, confident dogs and he has been fine. He is crate trained and house broken. He can be left out of the crate and has not had any accidents or damaged any furniture. If he gets anxious or unsure of a situation, gunfire, or fireworks, he likes to grab a squeak toy which redirects his attention and calms him down. I live near a gun range, and he has gotten less reactive to the noise since he first arrived. The dog has a lot of heart. He tries extremely hard to please. If you think Wilfred would make your home complete, please reach out to me with any questions. He is currently being fostered in Westminster, MD. Foster, J. Story
Location is Somerville, MA.   Meet Jimmy ! Or, as we also call him, The Bean, Jimmer, and Him Jim. Jimmy came to ACDRA in 2021 with a broken back leg, but after surgery and rehabilitation, you’d barely know he had an issue! Jimmy is 2 ½ years old and a big guy at 60-65 pounds. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He is crate-trained (though it still works best with a treat involved), house-broken, and knows basic commands. His recall is pretty good in the house, but I wouldn’t trust him off leash. For this reason, he’ll need a yard with a fence at least 6 feet high. Jimmy is an absolute love bug and would like nothing more than to be petted forever and ever. In fact, if you stop petting him before he’s ready for that, you may find him indulging in some annoying behaviors, like chewing on dining room chairs. He’s a big chewer – he has about 6 different kongs and loves each and every one. He can’t have stuffed toys, though, as he immediately rips them apart. Jimmy should be an only pet–he does not do well with cats or any other small animals. He’s been known to terrorize the birds in the yard. Additionally, he is dog aggressive, especially on leash, and is a resource guarder. Jimmy should not be in a home with children, either, because he’s both mouthy and jumpy. Since his leg healed, he’s regained the ability to jump and will leap suddenly if you have something in your hand that he’s curious about. Jimmy is crazy-smart and needs to be engaged. He’s very attached to his people, but not so interested in others. We’ve worked with a trainer and he seemed fine with her, but he doesn’t always react well to people on the street during walks. Jimmy ’s ideal adopter would be a single person or couple who are looking for a dog they can do things with like scent work. He will likely benefit from more work with a professional trainer, as well. If you’re interested in knowing more about Jimmy , please reach out to me at slaxterfosters@gmail.com , and please go to ACDRA.org to get to know our organization policies. Story
Red Manchester, MD Red is a 5 year old cattle dog , but do not let his age fool you. He has a lot of energy, and I mean A LOT. He has some incredible speed and stamina. Therefore, he would do great in a household of big hikers or somebody wanting to try agility. He can jump from the ground into the back of a pick up truck with no hesitation. He loves to jump up on the hay bales in the barn and in the back of some of our trailers. It is like he is looking for treasures! He can entertain himself with balls outside as well. He loves car rides, however he gets excited so it is best if he is in a crate or belted into the seat belt. His counter surfing and trash can looting has gotten better. We work on commands like down and sit daily. It is hard for him to think when he has lots of energy to burn. He has huge anxiety issues like spinning in circles and biting at his tail. Which means he gets snappy when he is stressed and needs his human to change things up for him. His adopter needs to be strong minded and very regimented in how you handle him. I have had good luck defusing him. At the end of the day, he likes to crawl up next to you on a chair or bed and snuggle. He will chase small dogs and cats, and vehicles given the chance. He shares a home with a senior ACD and Female ACD, however he would be best to be an only dog. Has not chased any live stock on the farm, just wildlife He would do great with an active couple.  Maybe a retired Military Family.  He runs very fast as I have clocked him on the farm at about 15 miles per hour.   His call back is better but he is not street smart so should be on leash in a traffic situation.   So Bike riding and skateboarding he would love.   Once he is tired he wants to lay in your lap and he is done for the day     He is crate trained and house trained. He is microchipped, up to date on vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea and tick preventatives. You will have to be able to meet him before adopting him to make sure it is a good match. We are located in Manchester MD. If you have any additional questions about Red, you can contact his foster home at: roxy@sweetrockstables.com If you are interested in adopting Red, please submit an application here: https://www.acdra.org/adoption-applicationMay 7, 2024, 3:05 pm
