Mr. Tux is a handsome, 1-year-old, 50 lb loyal sweetheart. He was saved at the literal 11th hour by Eleventh Hour Rescue. Down south in Georgia, this is the daily reality for so many dogs—if you aren’t settling well in the kennel environment, you are often the first to go. He was scheduled to be euthanized through no fault of his own, simply because the shelter was overcrowded. The kennel environment was taking a toll on him; he was losing weight, stressed, and clearly unhappy… but never once showed an ounce of aggression. We heard his story and knew we had to step in. Now, Mr. Tux is safe here in NJ and getting the second chance he so deserves. Mr. Tux is an absolute sweetheart and incredibly obedient and intelligent; already well-versed in his commands knowing sit, paw, stay, down, and "no." He loves people, gets along great with other dogs, and even showed polite curiosity toward cats during a day out with a volunteer (though he hasn’t lived with them yet). While well-meaning and affectionate, Mr. Tux is a strong guy and does not seem to be aware of his size and also loves to give hugs. Because of this, we recommend a household with only adults or older children only. He is crate-trained and house-trained and will even alert you with a noseboop to the door handle or a bark if he needs to go outdoors. He enjoys all the good things in life—cuddling, sunbathing, playing with toys, and heading out on adventures. He can be energetic so we do recommend a family who has a fenced in yard so he has the perfect place to burn off energy. Though by the end of the day, he's ready to stretch out and take up his fair share of the couch while lounging on your lap! He’s a low-energy guy who enjoys relaxed sniffy walks and then settling in for some quality couch time with his people. Spade’s favorite thing in the world is being with his family—wagging his tail and soaking up the company. He is fully potty trained, crate trained, and happily sleeps in his crate at night. He also does well with other dogs, making him a great fit for a home with canine friends. Selma who is showing off her beautiful brindle coat, is about 3 years old and weighs approximately 40 pounds. She has been fully vetted and is up to date on her vaccinations. Up until the point of her rescue, Selma spent her days and nights chained up. Now that she has experienced freedom for the first time, she's enjoying her space and will do best in a house with a yard for her to play in. She does need to be supervised in the yard as she has dug a few holes in her TX foster's fence. Overall she is a sweet, friendly, girl who is enjoying receiving love and attention for the first time in her life. Since she has lead a solitary life, we think she initially will do best in a house without other dogs. If her adopters would like to add another dog in the future, we recommend a meet and greet first to see how she does. Personality: friendly, affectionate Good with: adults (has not been tested yet with young children). Will do best as only dog for the start. Has not been cat tested yet. Dixie is a female, approximately 2 years, 17 pounds mixed breed. The vet says she may be a heeler mix. We pulled her from a kill shelter in Texas just before her timestamp was up. Once we got her to the vet we discovered that she is heartworm positive. She has started on her heartworm treatments and we are hoping that she finds an adopter soon so that she can come to her new home in the NJ areas as soon as she has finished her treatments.
