Story
Location is Westminster, MD. Wilfred is looking for his next adventure! Wilfred is approximately 7 years old and is an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is wicked smart and has medium energy and would do best with daily exercise. He would make an excellent hiking partner, agility prospect and would excel at learning tricks. He loves catching frisbees and balls and enjoys squeak toys. He walks well on a leash, but also has great recall off-leash. He is very obedient and has a kind heart. He loves riding in the car and will patiently wait for you to return. His ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or the right family. He previously lived with small children and was very gentle. Just like most ACD’s, he likes to get to know his people and approach on his own terms. Now, to what he does not like…NO CATS!! He had a terrible experience with a cat in his previous life and he is still trying to get revenge. He will chase small animals, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, but can be verbally redirected easily. He previously lived with another female dog and is sharing my house with two male dogs. I think with the proper introduction, he would get along with either sex. I would recommend that they be about the same size. I do not think he would tolerate small, vocal, or anxious dogs. I would also recommend that his fur friends be confident…he previously lived with an insecure dog, and he fed off her anxious energy. I have calm, confident dogs and he has been fine. He is crate trained and house broken. He can be left out of the crate and has not had any accidents or damaged any furniture. If he gets anxious or unsure of a situation, gunfire, or fireworks, he likes to grab a squeak toy which redirects his attention and calms him down. I live near a gun range, and he has gotten less reactive to the noise since he first arrived. The dog has a lot of heart. He tries extremely hard to please. If you think Wilfred would make your home complete, please reach out to me with any questions. He is currently being fostered in Westminster, MD. Foster, J. Story
Location is Somerville, MA.   Meet Jimmy ! Or, as we also call him, The Bean, Jimmer, and Him Jim. Jimmy came to ACDRA in 2021 with a broken back leg, but after surgery and rehabilitation, you’d barely know he had an issue! Jimmy is 2 ½ years old and a big guy at 60-65 pounds. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He is crate-trained (though it still works best with a treat involved), house-broken, and knows basic commands. His recall is pretty good in the house, but I wouldn’t trust him off leash. For this reason, he’ll need a yard with a fence at least 6 feet high. Jimmy is an absolute love bug and would like nothing more than to be petted forever and ever. In fact, if you stop petting him before he’s ready for that, you may find him indulging in some annoying behaviors, like chewing on dining room chairs. He’s a big chewer – he has about 6 different kongs and loves each and every one. He can’t have stuffed toys, though, as he immediately rips them apart. Jimmy should be an only pet–he does not do well with cats or any other small animals. He’s been known to terrorize the birds in the yard. Additionally, he is dog aggressive, especially on leash, and is a resource guarder. Jimmy should not be in a home with children, either, because he’s both mouthy and jumpy. Since his leg healed, he’s regained the ability to jump and will leap suddenly if you have something in your hand that he’s curious about. Jimmy is crazy-smart and needs to be engaged. He’s very attached to his people, but not so interested in others. We’ve worked with a trainer and he seemed fine with her, but he doesn’t always react well to people on the street during walks. Jimmy ’s ideal adopter would be a single person or couple who are looking for a dog they can do things with like scent work. He will likely benefit from more work with a professional trainer, as well. If you’re interested in knowing more about Jimmy , please reach out to me at slaxterfosters@gmail.com , and please go to ACDRA.org to get to know our organization policies. Story
Location: Manchester, MD Red came to us as a Foster in March 2023.   He had a lot of trust issues which even made a few of his fosters uncomfortable.   I have worked with him to learn how he should act around humans and other dogs.    His first owner gave him up because he liked to chase the neighbor cat.  The owner could not afford to put a fence up.   He was adopted out of the shelter again.   This time, near as I can figure he was kept in a crate that was too small.   In the year he has been with me, I feed him in his crate and he willing goes in on his own.    We have a pet door and fenced yard, he has had no accidents in the house and I leave him out when no one is home, with my other two ACD’s  Red loves short car rides.   However, for longer trips he does best in his crate.   He likes to counter surf and trash can loot. He is getting better, if I catch him he puts himself in his crate without closing the door.  This 6-year-old has a lot of energy. I mean A LOT. He has some incredible speed and stamina. I have clocked him running at 15 mph Therefore, he would do great in a household that are big hikers or somebody wanting to try agility. He can jump from the ground into the back of a pick-up truck with no hesitation. He loves to jump up on the hay bales in the barn and in the back of some of our trailers. It is like he is looking for treasures. He can entertain himself with balls outside.  He loves toys but we have too many dogs to play together. The more confidence Red has the more bickering goes on between the two of them with too much Red Dog attitude.   Has not chased any livestock, just wild life.  He had huge anxiety issues like spinning in circles and biting at his tail. This behavior has disappeared, if he gets stressed he will do it.  Simply calling him to you is enough to reset his mind.  His person needs to be strong minded and very regimented in how you handle him.  At the end of the day, he likes to crawl up next to you on a chair or bed and snuggle. He will chase small dogs and cats, and vehicles given the chance. He shares a home with a senior ACD and Female ACD, however he would be best to be an only dog.    He is up to date on Vax & etc. You will have to be able to meet him before adopting him to make sure it is a good match. Story
Mack Fostered In: Washburn, TN Hi All! My name is Mack, a nice masculine name for a handsome dude like me! I am an approximately 1.5 year old cattle dog mix, stop chuckling, I really am. My mama was cattle dog and my dad was probably a very handsome lab (clearly I take after dad). Foster mom says I am a very good boy, she tells me all the time, Mack you are a very good boy. I am a low to medium energy boy who doesn't mind spending all day on the couch watching a good netflix movie; but I am also up to a nice walk in the woods so I can take in all the smells and sounds. I do still like to chew on inappropriate things (mom decides what is inappropriate) so when mom isn't home I do spend time in my crate and I am good with that. I don't mind taking a nice lazy nap in my crate. I can be redirected easily to things I am supposed to chew on! I have been hanging out with my sister Scarlett, but I do well with other dogs as long as you give me just a few minutes to give them a good look over and a few sniffs. Once I determine they smell okay, I am willing to play! Did I mention I like the human things called kids. Especially if they are willing to take me for a walk or play. Mama says I am good on a leash, house trained and very kind and respectful. I would love to share your couch with you and do some exploring! Mack is currently being fostered in Washburn TN, but don't let distance deter you from inquiring about this handsome boy! Hi all, foster mom here, Mack is a really good boy, up to date on vaccines and is neutered. He would make a great family dog! If you have any questions about Mack email me at syn_rodger@yahoo.com You can find an application to adopt here: https://www.acdra.org/adoption-applicationSeptember 13, 2024, 4:52 am

Story
Location is Deerfield, NH. Ivy is a wildly sweet and busy 6yo ACD. Her motto is "can't stop, won't stop" and she lives to do all the things, all at once. She's food motivated to learn and loves to play Ball on her terms (the squeakier and bouncier the better, and more than 1 at a time). Ivy's overall excitement for life makes her impulse control skills a bit foggy and sometimes turns off her listening ears. For her safety she needs a home dedicated to keeping her on leash or in a securely fenced in yard.  Ivy is dog friendly, but is dog wary. She doesn't believe other animals (human or dog) want personal space and gives off an energy vibe most dogs don't want to be around. She once lived with another dog that didn't tolerate her zest for life and told her frequently she needed to control herself. After a few disagreements about their differing opinions Ivy's developed resentment towards being told what to do by other dogs (even when she is the one being inapprorpiate). Therefore any future housemates of Ivy's need to be fully accepting of her commitment to her lifestyle. Ivy thinks all other animals that move are for chasing and biting (naturally).  She will not live peacefully in a home with cats or other small pets. While she currently lives the farm life, she's not a farm-friendly dog. She thinks chickens would make a great snack if she had the chance to taste them as well as the other farm animals. Ivy is crate trained and retreats to her safe space when she's ready for a good chewy bone, a carrot, a stuffed kong, or to curl up and rest from a busy day of being Ivy. Ivy is house trained but should never be left unattended because she is bound to get herself into trouble conducting quality control tests on all the inner springs of the couch or performing a thread count on the bed sheets. She needs humans to make good choices for her in situations where she cannot.  Ivy lives with kids but is not trusting or appropriate for all humans great and small. She needs to be managed in situations and situations also need to be managed for her to be safe and successful with new people and in new places.  Ivy will benefit from a home savvy about the typical mannerisms of herding dogs and more specifically ACDs, but she'll need even a bit more than most. Since her life experiences with other dogs, people, and the vet have left a lasting impression that can evoke fear and sometimes reactivity, she needs a calm, gentle leader she can trust, that sets realistics expectations and boundaries and fairly upholds those.  Ivy can be a chatterbox, she yips when she's happy, she whines when she's worried, and she barks when all other things exist in the world. Therefore she needs to live in a home that doesn't have neighbors that can't appreciate her communication skills. If you're looking to put in a dogs-life-time of work for the reward of slobbery-licks, head-butts, snoot-boops, finger-nibbles and to work out at least 1 good throwing arm a day, then Ivy would like to hear from you!  Ivy is being fostered in Deerfield, NH. Story
Location is Norton, MA. If you’re looking for a sweet, sassy, and silly dog that will absolutely adore you, meet you in all of your feelings, and look at you like you’re their whole world, look no further than Ziva, the 40 lb., 6.5-year-old, Australian Cattle Dog mix.  She’s incredibly intelligent, crate trained, fully house trained and can even ring a bell to tell you when she needs to use the bathroom! She knows all your standard tricks, but also has a handful of really fun ones like spinning, high fives, and playing dead. She really enjoys the toughest of chew toys, food puzzles, tug of war, and snuggles and scratches. She’s terrible at fetch! She will chase the ball but then will insist you chase her to get it back. Huge fan of sticks. You will inevitably have to tell her that she’s given you enough kisses and must cease such, and though she will protest profusely, she will eventually acquiesce!     Ziva needs to be the only dog in the home.  Ziva will not want to co-exist with any other pets and is currently separated from the other dog in the home by alternating crate time.  A fenced backyard would be best where she can run freely to get her needed exercise away from other dogs.  Dog parks and walks around other dogs would not do well for her unfortunately.    Ziva will sit next to you on the couch and love the quiet attention as well.  She won’t hog the blankets at night but will frequently crawl under them and lay against your side.  If the two dogs here did get along then I would be keeping them both but two years of keeping them separated in the same home has shown that she must have her own home.   Ziva is in Norton, MA and is looking for her forever home. If you are that home, or have any other questions about Ziva, please reach out and contact johan.stewart@gmail.com. Story
Hi, I'm Harley and I'm a really good boy who is 3-4 years old and fully grown at 28 pounds which is a perfect size for a medium sized pup. I'm a Cattle Dog, Frenchie and Jack Russell mix. I'm living with a great Foster family and their pup and they all love me. My Foster Mom says I'm is a love-bug. I love being close to my people and trying to please them. I make her laugh when I watch TV and make funny faces and bark at the dogs I see. I'm also a very brave and resilient boy. I was bit by another dog and needed to have surgery on the left side of my mouth. I'm totally healed and have a bit of a scar but that's OK - it only makes me more handsome. I'm hoping a wonderful family adopts me and we can love each other forever! Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) for more info on me.

Story
Beautiful baby TRISCUIT is an 8 week old Heeler mix who has a stunning coat and sweet personality. He was rescued from a high kill shelter with his brother Patches who is also available for adoption. They look nothing alike but have the same sweet and fun personality. Triscuit is very social and playful and will give you a kiss anytime you want one! Patches is a little more reserved and loves to cuddle. Like typical puppies they play their hearts out for 20 minutes and then crash and snooze for 2 hours. They are living with a great foster family who is teaching them the rules of the road and getting them a head start on potty training. They get along with everyone they meet and other dogs too. They're totally healthy and up to date on all their vaccines. If you're looking to adopt a beautiful and happy puppy reach out to Long Road Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get more info.

Story
Coming soon in Salt Point! Meet Baby Blue a diamond in the ruff. He is a blue healer mix who is around 2 years old. He came into the shelter as a stray so nothing is known about his earlier life but since coming to my house he has been working on manners and basic obedience. This will need to continue in his new home. He is a big dog at 65 pounds and can be pushy, rude, and sometimes pulls hard while on leash. He loves to cuddle and will force himself onto your lap and flip your hand to make you pet him. He is very active and needs a home who will exercise his body and mind. No cats or small children, he will knock them down, but older dog savy kids are ok. He loves to chew bones, is good loose in the house, and sometimes sleeps upside down in the cutest way. Baby Blue gets along with all the dogs in the house and needs a fenced in yard to run and sunbathe. He is currently in foster in Salt Point, NY. If this cute boy sounds perfect for you , please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
Rescue from Texas- 1yo, 42 lbs. Annie sweet and friendly pup that has had a rough first year of life. Annie was found as a stray when she was only a baby. She was taken to a shelter and then was lucky to be fostered and later adopted to a very irresponsible adopter. Annie was found wondering and end up back at the pound. Annie was deprived of food while she was abandoned, so for now food has to be served to her individually, away from other pets. Now, Annie is in a foster home and is looking for her loving family. She is extremely goofy and funny. She loves to play and snuggles. She is very yang and active, can be vocal, puppy-playful, and just a fun dog. She loves to use her paws to hold things in her mouth, just like a person. Annie loves bones and toys, she got her favorite. Sweet Annie is ready to find her forever family. She likes all humans and kids but due to her not liking to share her food, there should be older kids. Please consider adding orphan Annie to your family!
