Story
Meet Charlie, an exceedingly handsome 8-month old, 33-pound (as of 10/1) Kelpie/Terrier mix, who is the friendliest fellow you might ever come to know! Whether it’s kids, other dogs, or people he’s never met before, Charlie warmly invites everyone into his circle. Awww! Housebroken and excellent on a leash, Charlie knows where and when to go potty, he loves going for walks, and he displays zero reactivity when it comes to nearby dogs, the sound of traffic, or crowded city streets. Charlie knows several commands, including come, sit, paw, and down, and is eager to learn more, especially is a treat is involved. Charlie’s a smart cookie, all right! Oh, and he loves riding shotgun in the car! Charlie’s activity level is reasonably high, so it’s important he receives enough exercise and adequate stimulation. He can sometimes become overexcited during playtime, but never in a bossy or aggressive manner. He’s just having so much fun, he forgets his size, his strength, and his manners. But he immediately stops whatever he’s doing the moment he hears a correction. Charlie is a true people-pleaser, and never, ever wants to get into trouble. When he hears the word no, his ears go back, he looks at you with that sad puppy-dog face, and he goes into submissive mode. Super easy to train, Charlie is just the sweetest! When it comes to affection, Charlie is an absolute master. He will even hug you, if you let him. You can pet Charlie anywhere, and he’s just so happy to be touched and cared for. And when he looks up at you with those kind, gentle eyes that seem to say - Thank you for loving me - it’ll totally melt your heart. Charlie would fit well into any active home looking to add a furry family member into the mix. He’s a very special boy indeed. If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.Pupstarzrescue.org for an application! www.pupstarzrescue.org Please Follow us on Instagram: @pupstarzrescue Like us on FaceBook! www.facebook.com/PupStarzRescue **Puppies are hard work. If you are not ready for a 'new baby' please adopt an adult or senior who need you! Spaghetti - 1 year, 23lbs, Kelpie/Aussie Mix, Spaye This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2839746##

Story
Starfruit - 1 year, 23lbs, Kelpie/Aussie Mix, Spayed  Our Team Says: "Starfruit is best in a home in a calmer part of the city, she's slowy adjusting but would like a calmer part best or beyond."  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Their Foster Family Says: "Starfruit (Starzy) is a little fox still figuring out the big city. She's a quick learner, so she's adjusting, but it's still a work in progress! She is VERY snuggly and energetic indoors, either sleeping by your side or chewing on a toy/bone when you are home with her. Outdoors, she's quick to use the bathroom but is still getting her city legs and can be a bit stop and go if she gets spooked by people or noises. She's very treat motivated though and will resume walking with some coaxing! She has already learned a few commands (smart girl!). I think she would be happiest in a quieter spot in the city because I can tell she has more energy than she displays when outside because of her nervousness. She's generally on the more reserved side with new people, but once she gets to know you, she is a fireball, running around playing fetch with her toys, or jumping into your lap for face kisses. She is the cutest girl in the world and continues to open up more each day. I'm confident that she will absolutely thrive in the right forever home willing to be patient with her (it's 100% worth it for the face kisses and snuggles)!" Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYAdjusting to city- she's getting better every day but still gets nervous or freezes with loud noise or crowds. Usually needs to be toted to the nearby park and then walks okay once there (but she's getting better about being able to walk home on her own!)POTTY TRAININGYes- few accidents first few days but to be expected!COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSIn between beanBEHAVIOR WITH CHILDRENMaybe for age 12 and up- skittish with loud noise and sudden movement, but once she is comfortable with you, she is pretty energetic and jumpy which wouldn't be great for small kidsSOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes- caveat that she is generally not very interested because of being on the skittish sideRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALSYes- she hasn't interacted with other animals but does not show interest in birds on the streetMOUTHY BEHAVIORWorking on it- nibbles on hands (responds to correction), and will chew things she is not supposed to if you leave them out. definitely requires puppy proofing of the home! no furniture or anything major, just clothes or the occasional shoeSEPARATION ANXIETYAdjusting- may cry or pace a little but generally fine being home alone for hours at a timeLEASH MANNERSWTF is a leash- 100% has never been on a leash before, the first time she went out she was SO confused by it lol. She's getting better but we're focusing on being able to walk generally before improving her leash manners :)CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium/High- will generally be right next to you if she's napping and sleeps on my pillow right next to me at night JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLODepends on the person- with strangers it's very calm but with me she is very excited and jumpy. Listens well to correction.CRATE TRAININGNot at all- puppy proofed the home and she free roams when alone Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Story
🐾 Meet Rusty! 🐾 Rusty is a 9-month-old Australian Kelpie/Shepherd mix who has already overcome more than any puppy should ever have to. He is currently being fostered in Mississippi but can be transported to an area near you via Rescue Riders LLC Transport. Rusty came into rescue when he was just 3 months old after someone found him. At the time, he had what appeared to be a chemical burn running the entire length of his back. We don't know what happened to him or how he was injured, but thankfully, he made it into rescue and has been given the care and love he deserved. Rusty also suffered an eye injury. We don't know if it was related to what happened to his back, but unfortunately, his eye could not be saved and had to be removed. But losing an eye hasn't slowed this handsome boy down one bit! ❤️ Today, Rusty is a happy, healthy boy who is ready for his forever home. He has a medium activity level and enjoys going for walks, but he isn't looking for a home that never stops moving. He has great manners, gets along wonderfully with dogs of all ages, and does well in a crate. Rusty is the kind of dog who has been through a lot (and he may always have a scar going down the length of his back), but hasn't let it change his sweet spirit. He deserves a family who will appreciate what a special boy he is and show him just how good life can be. ❤️ Rusty is neutered and ready to find his forever family! 🐾 9 months old 🐾 Australian Kelpie/Shepherd mix 🐾 Medium to high activity level 🐾 Loves walks 🐾 Great with dogs of all ages 🐾 Great manners 🐾 Crate trained 🐾 Neutered 🐾 Ready for adoption! 🏡❤️ If you're interested in welcoming this precious pup into your family, send us a message! We'll be happy to send you an adoption application. 💲 Adoption Fee: $450 Your puppy's adoption fee includes: 🐶 Spay/neuter 💉 Age-appropriate vaccinations 🪱 Deworming ❤️ Current heartworm and flea prevention 📍 Microchip 🚚 Transportation to you via Rescue Riders Pet Transport!
