Story
Meet me at 348 Old Colony Rd. Eastford, CT Payton is a 6-month-old guessed to be a Catahoula mix. He has a big heart, playful personality and adorable, goofy, freckled spots. After spending far too long in a loud, scary shelter, long after all of his siblings were adopted, he finally got his chance to shine in foster care, and has truly blossomed. Now in a busy home with children and other dogs for the past couple of months, Payton is thriving. He is mostly house trained, 100% crate trained with no accidents in over a month. He happily enjoys his crate, and sleeps through the night without a peep. Payton is friendly and playful with other dogs and and curious about cats he has been around. Payton is smart, eager-to-learn and is already picking up good manners and commands like “sit.” At this perfect age, he’s ready to keep learning and bonding with a family of his own. All around, Payton is a loving, well-rounded young dog who just wants what every puppy deserves—a safe home, consistency, and a family to call his. After being left behind for so long, he’s more than ready to be someone’s forever loyal companion. Due to MA Dept of Agriculture restrictions, we can not adopt to MA residents.

Story
If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, the Joey is your guy. We think this gorgeous, tricolor male could be a cross between an Australian Shepard and an English Shepard, both of which are very intelligent breeds. He would be the perfect dog for someone who works from home. Joey walks well on a leash, even though he pulls a bit, and rides well in a car. Joey gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with the dogs in his foster home. Joey would make a great hiking buddy as he is always ready for an adventure. He was picked up as a stray and is guesstimated to be between 3-5 years old. Due to his activity level, we think he is closer to 3 years old. Joey has been neutered, is to up to date on vaccinations and is microchipped. Unfortunately, Joey did test positive for heartworms. Since he is asymptomatic for heartworms, he is on the slow kill method to eliminate them and he should test negative in a year or two. In the meantime, he can live life normally without any restrictions. Joey’s adoption donation is $450 which includes the $165 transport fee. Joey is being fostered in Arkansas. If you would like to adopt Joey, please fill out an adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Meet Magnolia (affectionately known as Maggie)! 🌸 Maggie is a beautiful Australian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix born at the end of July. She is a happy, active puppy with a joyful spirit and a heart full of love. Maggie is a double merle and, because of this, she is deaf—but that certainly doesn’t slow her down or hold her back in life! Maggie is incredibly smart and a quick learner. She is eager to please and has already shown how capable she is at learning through consistency and positive reinforcement. We are looking for an adopter with experience with deaf dogs—or someone willing to learn—who is committed to training her using hand signals and providing the structure she needs to thrive. For her safety, Maggie will require a securely fenced yard. She absolutely adores playing with other dogs, and we feel she would do best in a home with a friendly canine companion to help her continue building confidence and burning off puppy energy. Maggie is doing wonderfully with house training and has mastered using the dog door. In a home without a dog door, she will just need a little extra guidance to continue her success. At night, she sleeps comfortably in a dog bed but is also crate-trained if needed. She walks well on a leash and is continuing to grow into a very well-rounded young lady. Maggie is expected to be a large dog, and due to her size, breed traits, and enthusiasm, she would do best in a home with older children. She is truly a special girl with so much potential, and her foster family is dedicated to finding the perfect forever home—one that will nurture her, support her unique needs, and help her continue her journey into a confident, successful pup. If you’re looking for a remarkable dog with a big heart and are ready to embrace something truly special, Maggie may be your perfect match. 💛🐾 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED.
