Story
From Hamlet's foster mom: Hamlet is an affectionate, loving dog. He takes instruction very easily and is food/treat-motivated. He loves sleeping in a crate overnight, and whenever we leave the house for an extended time, is happy enough to be in there during the day even though his older foster brother is not crated. Hamlet has gotten along with anyone who visits, contractors at our house, other dogs at the dog park, loves to be outside (and goes out often daily), and does a great job leash walking the neighborhood with a Gentle Leader. He is an energetic but not excitable two-year-old who loves to run and play, is working on "fetch" and "bring", enjoys chew toys, snuggles on the couch and recliner, and has learned to sit and wait for his dinner. Hamlet would thrive with an active family with an outside fenced yard (although he could learn an electric fence probably as he is very smart) and while he has a gruff bark, does not use it frequently, only in play with his dog mates. He is short-haired and has taken well to being groomed as he enjoys touch. We think he is a wonderful mix of Labrador with Dutch shepherd, boxer, or American bulldog, or any of the above. Hamlet is, however, working on loving a car ride, and we believe with our frequent trips to the dog park he will soon love it. He is super friendly; we can't say enough about this foster, as he will make a loving family member. URGENT Courtesy Post: Owner Surrender/Rehoming- Wytheville, VA Meet Raylan! He is an 1 year old Australian Shepherd and weighs 90 lbs. He is up to date on shots (except for rabies), but isn’t neutered or on heartworm prevention. Raylan is fearful of strangers. He is good with kids and cats! No dogs, due to his reactivity! Raylan is crate-trained and housebroken. He has separation anxiety. His owner says he is a hyper and loving dog! The owner is surrendering him because he attacked her 12 year old Schnauzer and gave her serious injuries. He needs to go immediately! If you think you can provide a great home for Raylan, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $150 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Raylan. Owner’s Contact Information: Shelley Talley at (276) 200-7263 or shelleytalley1981@gmail.com.

Story
Mr. Max needs a new foster, foster to adopt or adopter ASAP! His foster is travelling and cannot fit Max with her 2 dogs. Mr. Max is a GORGEOUS 8 yr old, Australian Shepherd or possibly an Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. Mr. Max came to ASF after his owner passed away and the family could not care for him due to health issues. Max lived in his home alone for approx. 1 month being checked on daily. We have no idea if Max witnessed his owner's passing. Mr. Max is good with other dogs and after a few weeks in foster is finally playing with the foster's 1 dog, although the other is not a fan of Mr. Max. He is utd on vaccines, on preventatives, microchipped and was neutered (in the last few weeks. The best foster or adopter for Mr. Max will be someone who can continue his training. Someone with patience that believes an old dog can learn new tricks! Mr. Max is a strong leash puller and is reactive (not aggressive) in the yard and on leash to other dogs and people. He is mistrusting of new people until he has a chance to settle down and meet them on his terms. We do not know if he was just sheltered or if this is trauma from his owner's passing. Max is also quite vocal, so a home in the country or with some property and no close neighbors would be ideal. However, he is improving and lessening his barking. Mr. Max is also in the process of crate training and is getting better every day. When Max first came into ASF he was intact and marking in the home. That has ceased with his neuter, but he may try it in a new home at first. It's nothing belly bands can't handle until he is comfortable. Mr. Max has not been exposed to cats or children. Max would be good alone or with another dog. He is a good boy at the vet, but nervous in the car so he needs to be crated or tethered. Max's ideal home, foster or adopter, will have a fenced yard and the time and patience to continue his training. This senior boy still has years of love to give!! Will you be Mr. Max's forever? Here is the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts. If you are interested in fostering:https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/foster
